They've just sung Abide with Me.
Always reminds me of my Grandad, who sang along with a tear in his eye infront of the telly.
Think this might be an entertaining one.
-
City want to get something from (for them) what has been a shit season.
Palace have a great chance, I’d like to see them win.
-
Mateta started the game about 5 yards inside the city half just before Eze kicked off. Would've been controversial in the event of an early goal.
Should Palace get it done today, would it be the first time Rovers have been knocked out of the cup by an eventual winner?
-
Palace seem on the back foot aat the moment

Liverpool 1974 springs to mind..

Liverpool beat Newcastle in the 74 final after beating us earlier in the comp.

Palace could do with playing more of a press. It’s ok letting City have the ball, but Palace have no out ball at the moment.

Boom!
-
First break and they score!
-
Perfect counter attacking move. Quality from Palace.
-
Wow.
First proper Palace attack and Eze scores. Great finish too..

It’s just like watching the Rovers.
-
Palace playing with more freedom now.

I feel for palace fans, they got a really good side this season and a manager that uses the tools at his disposal very very well. But I fear they will get the top players cherry picked this summer and eventually someone like Spurs will take there manager. I know it's the way it is but still.

They lost one of the best players in the world last summer.
-
Henderson slightly fortunate not to walk there.

Perhaps, but the correct decision. It seems odd however that a yellow card can’t be given in these circumstances..
-
Perhaps not as much money at Citeh as it seems. They've had to write the players names on their shirts in felt tip.

Maybe they should have signed Billy Sharp-y.?
-
Penalty City, subject to VAR..
-
Shouldn't that be a corner?
-
Saved.!
I thought the defender got a bit of the ball, but maybe VAR thought it wasn’t enough to overrule the ref as a clear and obvious error.?
Surprised Haaland didn’t want it.
-
Saved!!
-
Sharman-Lowe-esque.
-
Never a penalty, when are they going to look at the player already going down before way before contact - it’s a yellow for the city player all day!
-
If Palace win this and it stays 1-0, Henderson is leading the race for MotM at the moment!
-
Henderson having a great game. Not a penalty

Indecisive when it came to who was taking the kick - knew the outcome after that!
Entertaining game!

Used to religiously watch the cup final along with the build up, it was such an exciting meaningful day, unfortunately it lost its magic a few years ago and I’d not even realised it was today until I read this post
-
Decent half from my near neighbour.
Guy Mowbray, walks his little white dog past our house.

Yes, but this has actually been an entertaining game.
The top 4 winning everything killed football, but this season things have been flipped slightly. Even teams fighting relegation like Man U and Spurs have a chance of winning a euro cup.

I second that. Used to be a big day in the calendar until it was devalued
-
BBC coverage started what, an hour before kick off..
Used to be most of the day..
Still, it is a decent watch today.
-
Only saw the last 15 minutes of the half. Soft penalty but think it was given to try and make up for not sending Henderson off beforehand. That was a red for me. Set up nicely for the 2nd half.
-
When we were kids the build up and anticipation on the day was second to none. As a football fan it was always the best day of the season whoever was taking part. Such a shame it's been devalued over the years.
Oh and is it just me but anyone else find Man city a little bit boring to watch? Little 5 yard passes back and forth until space opens up zzzz
-
That's an awful decision for the Henderson hand ball he's denied a goal scoring opportunity by palming the ball away outside the box and he's not even got a yellow :headbang:
-
Not so sure he denied a goal scoring opportunity, regardless of where he touched it ( and he should get a yellow at least) Harland knocks the ball with the outside his foot, taking it in the same direction Henderson flappped it away too, way away from the goal, and I doubt he would of caught up with it too.

I’ve only seen the replay at half time but it looked to me that the only reason he’s going so far away from goal is because the keeper’s taken a dirty great swipe and pushed it that way!
-
If the ref saw it, and gave a free kick, he could award a yellow card. VAR is only looking at a potential red card, and if they say no, they can’t give a yellow. It’s nonsense really but there you go.
-
Now then!
-
Offside, correct decision.
-
Physios squaring up on the touchline. Do no harm obviously doesn't apply to physios.
-
Well, it's clear which is the better side. Whatever happens from here on in, this is about as good as it gets for a Palace fan.
Bologna did it in Italy.
-
If we can't get TSL, can we have Henderson, please?
-
The romance of the cup is still alive.
-
Yes, well done Palace.
-
Well well well..
That’s why we love football, isn’t it.?
-
Good game, good game!
-
Palace’s hardest game was against us
-
By playground rules, if we'd have beaten Palace we would have won the FA Cup. Always next year.
-
Absolutely mint. Go on the Palace.
-
Great result.
Well done Palace!!
-
Great result, good club, proper fans, not done it by shovelling millions, if not billions of dodgy cash in, and building in the right way.
They look like a model club to follow.
Great honour for Joe O to keep Mateta in his pocket, and let’s not forget they stuck 3, yes 3 players on Moly!
-
Well done to Crystal Palace they had to beat the mighty Rovers to get the FA Cup
-
Palace’s hardest game was against us
That's what Bill Shankly said after winning FA Cup in 1974
We were 92nd in League 4 and many know drew 2 2 with Liverpool at Anfield the only goals they conceded in their whole Cup run
So that's at least twice we've lost to the winners
-
When they played us there wasn't a late train to London if there was extra time -- so a few hundred young London based fans somehow bought tickets to further up the mainline (York ?) than Doncaster and around 7pm they all piled off a Southbound train at Doncaster !
then post match they had to get back to York to catch the late London train
either that or it was their exiled young fans from up North
They deserved to win the Cup for their efforts
-
I lost interest when they stopped doing FA Cup It's a Knockout on Cup Final morning.
-
And the question of sport special..

Sorry to be pedantic wolf but there’s no ‘e’ in the great man’s surname.

I stopped watching it 10 years ago, it has been downgraded so much by the Cheats league that it has become tedious. I am pleased for Palace, but no doubt things will go back to normal next season.
-
Man City are so predictable and boring to watch , Palace did a great number on them. Got to admire Pep in some respects but nearly every manager has tried to copy his style of playing out from the back and retaining possession, it's so robotic and like I say boring. The 2 champions league semi finals were so refreshing to watch , relying on great old fashioned wing play and individual brilliance at times, it was almost like football of old was back.
-
It feels like two things have happened to City - both related and both down to Pep. His style has very quickly become dated and he hasn’t innovated to adapt, and his side has suddenly become very old. Not just in years as there are some young players there, but players that look clueless up against sides who have innovated.
Haaland at present looks like the flattest of flat track bullies. Offered literally nothing yesterday and was probably the worst player on the pitch. De Bruyne had a huge amount of the ball but very little damage. Bringing Gündoğan on the change the game probably summed up Pep.
He could come again but has said pretty much that these are his final two years and that squad is facing a two year rebuild. Wonder who signs when they know he isn’t going to be their manager when the squad rebuild is complete.
-
It was the worst final I have seen in years. The best football games are when there is end-to-end football and shots at both ends and skill and passing in between. Palace killed the game just crowding out their our net. Cowards and boring!

Cheers . I have his Autobiography somewhere entitled I think Shankly.
Thought it looked wrong when I wrote it lol

Couldn’t disagree more. OK there weren’t dozens of great chances, but it was tense and exciting all the same.

Another team this week winning a big game with less than 30% possession!
Palace’s goal was proper footy. Fast and flowing, not giving the opposition defence time to organise. Got it up to Mateta quick and then brilliant hold up play from him and perfect pass to release the winger (goes to show you can’t judge a striker off goals alone and how good Olowu is keeping him quiet).
Glasner said after last time they played City “You can’t play this system again or we will solve it”. Love it. Great coach. They will struggle to keep hold of him.

Pre-match I thought Palace werer Manc City's bogy team at the Etihad - but of course the match wasn't played there.
on checking I found
"Crystal Palace have only come out on top in two of their last 20 Premier League meetings with Man City (D5 L13), and both of those victories were secured at the Etihad Stadium in December 2018 and October 2020."
i thought they had won there more recently - alas No. but Palace got a 2-2 draw away last season
Last season i watched Palace at home to Man city, Palace broke at lightening speed to take a 4th minute (Mateta the culprit).1-0 lead and I thought there was no way Man City could win the League - the way Palace scored that goal - City won in the end 4-2
Despite the City win that day, I thought there was no way they could win the league. I got that wrong!
Yesterday by chance I put the tv on and it was half time since the unlikely had happened I decided to watch the Latest Remake of the "Battle of the Alamo" -
Memories of the Bromley Alamo are still in my mind !!!!
At least this latest "Alamo" had a happy ending

They used to have Cup Final It’s A Knockout, with teams from city’s, towns in the final, can’t do it now Arthur Ellis and Eddie Waring have both died years ago and Stuart Hall ………….
