Didn't he once have a punch up with one of our fans?
I'm sure his nickname was Mad Baz??
-
Made a very rude gesture to the Rovers fans who were behind his goal at Scarborough. This was after some criticism he received.
-
I remember someone giving him pelters in a warmup and he smashed the ball straight at the fella. Bovril everywhere. Said he couldn't have done it on purpose because he was too shit to be that accurate.
-
Hahahahahahaha
Get in. Welcome back Mad Baz. Hope he’s got worse with age. Need some characters back in the game.
-
If memory serves me, he wasn't well liked was he?
-
I thought Baz Richardson's distribution was very good.

Should just send this to TSL as a method of persuasion. Come work under this bloke and you’ll be a raging psycho by Christmas.
-
WOW , that's a bigger shock than Ian Lawlor coming back!
-
Omg! I wonder about our tendency to want ex players back but flipping eck, didn't expect to see Bazza back, again.
-
Worked with GM at Hull
-
I didnt realise he has been goalkeeping coach at Hull city for last 5 to 6 years! Wonder if TLT will follow him? Or is Mad Baz one of the reasons TLT not made the first team at Hull?
-
There's our 3rd choice keeper sorted
-
Sounds like he won't really be involved in the goalkeeping side of things. Which is probably a blessing if my memory of some of his performances is accurate! Liked to go ambling miles out of position if I remember right. A sweeper keeper ahead of his time, maybe!
Not a name I expected to see but he's obviously carved out a great career as a coach since then so sure he'll be a great addition.
-
Be careful what you wish for belle-vue , Just read this about him "At the age of 46, he played a competitive game for the first time in over 8 years on 30 January 2016, after an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Alex Lynch during a match against Plymouth Argyle, and kept a clean sheet in a 1–0 victory – the first time Plymouth had failed to score at home that season"

He was the driving force on TLT joining the Rovers I believe to help out Grant and Cliff
-
It feels, to me, like he’s going to be doing a bit of ‘mentoring’ with Copps, who seems to be progressing his coaching role. GM clearly trusts the guy.
-
I remember him in his ponytail days for Lincoln (?) absolutely wiping out Donny’s Steve Richards with a two fisted flying punch and dislocated his shoulder for him.
I also remember him spending most of the second half away at Boston swearing and arguing with the Rovers fans (as a Rovers keeper)
He has done the rounds as a goalie coach but this is first I’ve heard of him as an outfield coach

Chesterfield and Saltergate if I remember right… My only lasting memory of him!

Sure someone from the club had to come out and smooth it over, ROK maybe

Knows the club.

I know who it hit, it’s wasn’t me

I remember him the first match after Neil Sullivan had joined on loan and Mad Baz was trying to coach him how kick the ball out his hands, Sully was doing it perfectly but Mad Baz still telling him. Sully had played for Wimbledon ( the real one ) Chelsea,Tottenham, Leeds and Scotland, Mad Baz was more in line of Preston and Lincoln
-
Remember him having an absolute blinder one night at Boston. Made several world class saves. We were 2-0 up til the Ref stepped in to ensure that Boston could have a draw.

Yeah I remember that, night game, finished 2-2,think we would have gone top if we won, news that we had signed the flop and bully that was Justin Jackson came out same day, era of fatty Evans and the top scorer who they had said they was paying £10 bonus a goal but was £100 or something along those lines.
edit : striker with fiddled contract was Daryl Clare

the only time he came out of his 6 yard box was for a fight

Chesterfield on a cold frosty night. Harry Worley was playing and Lewis Guy
It was in the warm up and the guy with the hot drink certainly got warmed up

Also remember him putting one of the best keeping displays I’ve seen at Rushden & Diamonds. One way traffic but we came away with a goalless draw. That stupid set-to he had with the fans at Boston really did for him in terms of the way the fans regarded him from that day on.
-
Love this. I too was sat in the away end at Scarborough when he hilariously lost his rag and started on the entire traveling support behind him. Freezing cold Boxing Day fixture that we lost, if I recall.
Welcome back Mad Baz!
-
Can't help but think this is in part aimed at reducing GM's booking count by rolling Baz out as cannon fodder for the ref.
-
I will go along with Grant who obviously thinks he is the best man for the job. A lot of great players have made terrible managers and coaches where the connection with the players at work is just as important and getting the message through to the player and having their trust.
In Grants case it was obvious the last section of last seasons league victory he settled on our best side, had their trust in what could be achieved, and his enthusiasm and drive got us across the line at the finish.
His public support and drive to win the league verbally in the media being the catalyse we all got behind and the team
responded.
That was confidence in himself and the club and could have well ended up with egg on his face, something he was willing to take on, he has my admiration, and if Baz has the same drive bring it on.
-
I remember him playing against Nuneaton on a Tuesday night at BV, he was getting dogs abuse from some of the fans in the main stand so he came charging over like a mad dog while the game was in play, hilarious but a bit concerning at the time.

Why have we added to the back room staff .. has someone left .Odd addition as his previous Rovers reputation is well known.
-
Odd comment.!!
Why shouldn’t we add to the back room staff.??
-

that was against chesterfield at saltersgate while warming keeper up and hit him (penfold) flush in face from 35 yards away lol
-
Grant is clearly aware of what support staff he needs to keep the wagon rolling smoothly .Though the manager gets the spotlight trained on him he knows how to pick the people best equipped to support his season-long journey through League One .

The fellow hit with the ball still goes nearly every home match and quite a few away ones

I remember Barry Richardson giving a supporter abuse when he took a shot at goal and missed the net but hitting the supporter knocking his drink out of his hand but instead of coming over to apologise he just ranted abuse at him .

I enjoyed the interview with him on the OS.
This looks like a good appointment to strengthen the coaching staff and keep the club moving forward.
Welcome back Baz.

How many coaching staff do we have now ?
-
Cliff Byrne, Baz Richardson, Kyle Letheren, and Copps. 4 main coaches for the first team after the reshuffle, plus Grant himself of course.

Are you looking for information or confrontation?

He’s an absolute mentalist. Could be a genius appointment or something entirely different. Won’t be dull though!

f**king hell… the commentator sounds like he’s commentating on a funeral, as the deceased. Baz in his Temu Seaman phase
-
Just reading Baz's Wikipedia stats and whilst I obviously remember the 60 odd appearances he made for us in 2000/2001, I had no recollection that he played for us under O'Driscoll a couple of times when he was part of the coaching staff?!
-
Did he play at Cambridge in the paint pot trophy or whatever it was called, I think we lost 3-2.?
-
Despite the correct posts about his temperament as a player, I believe he's been a highly respected coach for almost 20 years? Good appointment IMO albeit purely based on my take on his reputation.

One of my favourite Rovers memories this,Barry giving Sully all sorts of coaching points during an injury break, crowds fairly quiet, some booming voice from the back of the main stand goes “SIT DOWN BARRY YOU KNOW F*** ALL!”
-

Yep, broke his leg, horrible noise in a cold empty stadium.
-
The only decent thing about that evening was the bacon butties they sold..

20 years on and I'm still thinking about those butties!

Awful isn't it.
When I coached a kids football team my goalkeeper landed awkwardly on his arm and it just folded.
The noise was like a cricket bat hitting a sweep shot (I think that's the term)
