Screaming out for a Saturday game at home/localish. Got a six year old who's wanting to go to his first match

I saw on Ricky Charlesworth's x that Rovers were in talks with a Championship club over the possibility of a friendly at the Eco....could still materialise?

You would like to think most of these games are to look at trialists. Hopefully the more challenging games are to come after.

They’re following a similar pattern to last season.

Presumably we’ll want a home friendly against decent opposition (eg Championship) on Sat 26 July?

Then EFL kickoff Sat 2 Aug the weekend after.

I think that's the plan, heard one of the Sheffield clubs is likely but the uncertainty around both their managers doesn't help.

I believe the Owls are second choice for Saturday 26th but there are other plans which would be a lot better

I'm fancying Everton at the moat. We've given them 2 tough games in recent times so you'd think they would want a more competitive one too.

Well, if we’re getting Crew back, what about the possibility of Leeds?

PSG? Premier League? Tottenham so they can drop Craig off. Leeds (ditto Crew). Everton (recent history and Snod). Newcastle, Liverpool…

Thing is  Ptem clubs aren't going to be sending their stars. We're better off with a top end Championship club. I thought the Middlesbrough game was one of the best I've seen. It was competitive and they put out their probable first X1. It was a very good test for us.

Sunderland at home maybe?

Don't Premier League clubs charge a fortune for a friendly?

Definitely not Newcastle, with their history of crocking our players.

Sheff Utd would be brill for us and Billy of course, with or without Wilder.

I am hopeful it won’t be a highly  competitive no-holds-barred match like the one against Newcastle turned out to be and left us with long-term injury worries '

.

They’re at Chez on 26th. They could put 2 decent teams out on same day though I guess.

Blackpool at home completes the set. A bit underwhelming but it is a pre season friendly afterall to test the players readiness.

Playing teams in the same league is daft when we could hypothetically play them in the league the week after.

A source I'd heard from had mentioned a foreign team at home on the 26th. Clearly that's fallen through.

Championship clubs are probably charging too much for friendlies this year.

Not the most challenging of fixtures for a pre season. Maybe Grant wants to build confidence and momentum with hopefully a fair few victories and that he can try a few things. Nobody in the media will be getting excited if we beat some of these sides. It allows us to go under the radar.

Makes sense to have a centralised place with all the fixtures.

Fri 4 July - Retford Utd (a) 19:30
Tues 8 July - Alfreton (a) 19:00
Fri 11 July - Thorne Colliery (a) 19:30
Sat 12 July - Stamford (a) 12:00
Sat 12 July - Peterborough Sports (a) 15:00
Tues 15 July - Gateshead (a) 19:45
Weds 16 July - Rossington (a) 19:45
Sat 19 July - MK Dons (@ Dunstable) 15:00
Sat 26 July - Blackpool (h) 15:00
Unusual not to have a higher profile preseason . Respect to Blackpool for taking on this game being in the same League .

Possibly we had a friendly against Sheff Wed penciled in for 26th July. As they aren't playing any and don't even have anywhere to train it couldn't happen.

It looks like Barry Bannan has ended his stay with Wendies.

Along with the MK Dons and Blackpool naturally, the Alfreton game stands out as very interesting, it will be very different.
