53. At least it would put to pay to the 'ability or experience' argument one way or another.

The one that was loan at Bradford second half of last year?

Played half a season and scored maybe a handful of goals at most????

He’s class. Would be an unreal signing for us.

One McCann could definitely improve numbers wise. Interesting if correct.

What type of player is he?

Remember he scored a cracking goal against us for Morecambe but not much else as I spent most of the game with my head in my hands.

Michael Mellon, for those who don't know. Current club Burnley. Sounds useful on Wikipedia.

He’s more of a target man type striker. If there’s any truth in this then surely it would signify the end of Joes time here

Plays with his “back to the ball & has a ‘nice’ scoring touch” according to Wiki.

He’s not 22 until December. If Grant ‘fancies’ him I think you’re probably right Colin.

Grant did say in his interview that he was waiting to hear from a Premiership club about a striker so perhaps Mickey is that man.

Could the wide player Grant talked about be another player in question , Mellon looks more a cf than wide man

So was Street but he started out wide before being shifted

Just like the Jatta rumour, this appears to be out of the blue and another out of character move. I thought Grants reference to a fee being agreed with a Prem Club was a loan for a centre half, then a reference to a wide player being close.

I just don't see us taking that sort of risk with a young player who we've no previous connections with. I know this will disappoint a few as it maybe the type of investment we should be making.

If we were to spend 'big' it's more likely to be for a Rob Street, but that would be further down the line depending on how he fairs at Lincoln. I just don't see us being that far up the food chain yet.

My mistake, Grant was ‘talking to’ a Premiership club about a centre half.

To be fair, a younger more mobile version of Joe Ironside should have been a priority this summer and last.

But I can’t find any other mention of this rumour apart from the Rovers fan account on Instagram it came from. So maybe it’s just a good guess from them?

This has resurfaced on X again. According to Tom Whitton, we’ve already had a fee agreed.

There has to be some breaking soon, as I’m also getting whispers about who the 2 cb’s are. And, no, I’m not leaking anything to anyone.

He seems to be a Rovers fan who also runs the Instagram page that ‘reported’ the rumour in the first place before any journalist.
He must be seriously in the know!

Mickey Mellon was first alerted to the club when he was playing u21s at 19 yrs old along with a left back who has played Championship and Premiership football since.
About the time we signed Do Doo, Long, and Barlow.

This is one of those where I’m hoping the rumour is true as I do feel like the loss of Street leaves us needing further quality in that position (on top of the addition of Hanlan). However it’s hard to judge the credibility of the sources as there are numerous sites set up on X that just seem to pluck names and clubs out of a hat and then share each other’s misinformation. Time will tell I guess.

Possibly got the wrong Burnley player and we could be after Dara Costelloe? Can play in multiple positions and the Irish connection?

Dead right, Drover. Tomato is a fruit, yet we put salt on it. Rhubarb is a vegetable, yet we put custard on it.

Weird.
