I’m usually in the car on a Satdi morning. I’m usually listening to Radcliffe & Marconi on 5 live. They have a feature called The Chain.
The Chain is an ongoing feature where listeners choose a song or track that has some relationship to the previous song or track. It can be anything but more creative links are appreciated.
I’ll start because it’s my idea. Let’s go for The Beach Boys - Warmth of the Sun. it’s topical and I believe it’s a unique track with chords that have never been used before. The link might be The Sun for instance. A Sam Fox song maybe. Or it could be a composer called Brian. Brian Eno? Warmth - a Hot Chip track. Or a less obvious link than those.
Post a link and give your reason. Thank you.

The perfect companion piece in terms of title (your choice) and lyrics (my choice). Rather topical too.

Cheers Rob, I thought it would be cool to have an ongoing music thread. I wonder if this will fly?

Great band. 1969 was a big year for them.

Ian Anderson lives up the road from me.

PS. Too late. Sorry. I was going to suggest 'Happy Nightmare - Mescaline' by Focus - because it's appropriate both for the time and the person. But I messed up the search so by the time I found this I'd been overtaken. Soz.

Jethro Tull have a lead singer called Ian. Motörhead also had a lead singer called Ian, though better known as Lemmy.

I was a nipper when Motorhead were in their pomp, I liked that wall off sound they made. How about the ying to their yang? Madness... I like driving in my car. About the same era. The very opposite.

I saw Madness in 1979 with the Specials at Norwich university. What they lacked in musical prowess they made up for in pure energy. They were phenomenal, as were the Specials. I saw them again 5-6 years later and they were much more polished but lacked the intensity of the earlier gig.

Google informs me that when Madness were in the charts with Driving in my Car, this was number 1 in the UK.
