Probably better to have a game like this opening game where regardless of opposition loads will turn up. This fixture on a Tuesday night in December is not getting many floaters excited.

5-1 at home in the early/mid 70's when Archue irvine scored an absolute rocket at the Rosso end from about 2 miles away.

6-1 ( I think)on a Friday night. I was a ball boy. That was in the mad spell of high scoring games

Yes dead right, I think a series of results of 3-6, a 7-5, a 4-4 and relegation at the end of it.

Yes it was, and 3-0 in the previous season corresponding fixture, notable for Hugh Dowd scoring a header from the D of the penalty area.!

OK, RIS, I'm going to be a pedantic clever clogs. The 3 teams were Wigan, Reading, and Brentford; and you got the scores spot on.

the whole series of results was even more mental - 6-1, 2-3, 7-5, 3-6, 0-1, 1-5, 4-4. -  48 goals in seven games
