Title: Strange appointments
Post by: Branton Rover on July 06, 2025, 04:10:31 pm
Arguably two of the bigger clubs in the division Cardiff and Huddersfield have made very strange managerial appointments; Brian Barry Murphy at the Blue birds and Lee Grant at the Terriers.

Seems very strange that BB Murphy has got quite a prestigious job when he had an underwhelming experience at Rochdale and similarly, why would Huddersfield appoint Lee Grant the ex goalkeeper who has never managed anyone previously. Makes us very lucky to have Grant who has over 400 games as a manager under his belt. Like I said elsewhere there aren’t many examples of goalkeepers making good managers.

If you look at recruitment of players Huddersfield seemingly have brought good players in but this is negated by the guy in the dugout.

Did the manager get to have a say in recruitment? If not that is a bit strange, how can you shape a team if you have no choice about your staff? It undermines the manager role with players and fans.

Head coach is different to a manager

Disappointingly they didn't go the whole hog and appoint Brian Murphy.

Can see the logic with BBM. He's worked at Man City who have a strong record of turning out great young coaches who do well when they step into the top job. Quite highly rated inside the game as well.

Lee Grant is more of a gamble. Worth noting though that Huddersfield are losing £15-20m a season so need to cut their cloth where they can. Wouldn't be surprised if that was a factor.

I wonder if Hudds still have the same Chairman as they did back then.
