I received an email from VSC today asking to renew membership and I wanted to check that it was legit. I think it probably is but it contains a number of red flags for a phishing email - a link to pay money & update personal details, need to pay urgently with a short deadline - in fact the deadline was last Sunday, before the email was sent, so it looks a bit suspicious?
I’m happy to pay membership but it used to be by direct debit (I think ?). Happy to pay if it’s legit but wanted to check it’s genuine. Just a note to VSC, there may be a few people a bit twitchy about clicking on the link & paying? Is there a better way to do it?
-
I’ve deleted the email thought it was suspicious so if it is legit then VSC better think of a better way of doing it. I can’t see anything on this site that mentions the renewal either.

Won’t be clicking on any unsolicited email
-
Well someone may have to resend with an assurance because I suspect I'm not the only one who has deleted it on safety concerns

Hi guys.
It is genuine. We've been putting in a new membership system and will be officially launching it in the coming days. Testing has meant that some users have received emails they weren't expecting, so apologies for that if you have received one.

I only ever join this forum on my phone and the way I’ve saved it means I can only access the chat as I’ve never really been interested in off topic or lucky pint etc.. so if there is something in off topic I will have missed it. What does it say Bob?

Ok, cheers Rob, I wanted to check as there are so many fraudulent ones around it pays to be ultra cautious (or at least costs you not to be!)
-
Yes, definitely pays to be cautious, too many scams out there, never click on anything that raises any doubt.

Agreed. And apologies again. We've been testing the system and it looks like this email has sneaked past the sentries at the door....

As Rob says it is a genuine email.
We're still trying to get comfortable with the new system so we weren’t expecting it to go out for a few days.
It is an email generated system though, and therefore we need to hear from you if we don't have an up to date email address for you.
For those who have renewed their membership recently you should be receiving a completely different email.

Your Off Topic comment should really be on the main forum page.
Too important to be hidden away.
Now I know its not phishing paid up.
Onwards and upwards!

Should I be worried that I didn't get an email

Should I be worried that I didn't get an email
No, it was meant for memberships that had expired recently. And maybe those are due to be paid in the near future anyway.

Hi Martin, I haven’t received an email yet and my renewal is due in August I think.
I just clicked on the link and it doesn’t recognise my email
I did have a problem last year when I was locked out of my account and it was linked to a previous email. You sorted that out for me but I wonder if it still have me down as my freeserve email.
