Once again acting as Barnsley's scouting department, I see.

Think that's a great signing for them in give him another season or 2 and I genuinely think he'll be a top end championship player only thing that let's him down is he's a bit lightweight but he's only young. Definitely one to keep an eye on

Totally disagree I thought he was a bit of a weak link, glimpses of real quality but few and far between.

He could go either way as a player that's for sure.  Wasn't even a mention of him being a target for us from anyone which sums up his impact I'd say.  Decent enough but nobody mentioned wanting him back.

Really rate him, disappointed as I thought he might be someone we could pick up and develop into a top player.

I would have liked to see him come here to be fair. Good luck to him though.

Showed glimpses of potential and will probably do okay in league 1.

We're surely going in for Crew hopefully

Good footballer, but I’m not entirely sure he’s born to be a central midfielder.
Unless he was breaking away at speed through midfield there was something not quite right about him there.
He’d be a great wing back IMO. That happened to Galbraith didn’t it?

Was alright at carrying the ball, not really much end product. We would all agree Crew was a level above him, so if we end up with him we’ve done well.

I’d say he’s worse than Herbie was and didn’t he fail at the Dingles?

I thought there might be a possibility GM might go back for him, as he seemed to be like a fatherly figure wanting to nurture him. If he's not been on our radar then there's the family connection with Barnsley so no surprise he's made that connection.

Didn’t really see what he brought to the team. Crew a much better player.

I wish him all the best, he’s a nice young lad and deserves to progress in the game.
He’s definitely got potential, and Hourihane must be confident giving him a 3 year deal.
Not seen the fee mentioned anywhere?

Nice lad and has an engine but he needs to bulk up if he is to compete at this level.

He has potential and is decent at carrying the ball forward but not currently League One standard.

I think that's a great signing for them. He showed glimpses of real high level stuff. Having the ability to drift past men as a central midfielder is a huge asset to have. This season may not be his season, but as a longer term project, he's a great acquisition.

I wonder if we were ever interested in trying to sign him.

Barnsley seem to have a knack or obsession with picking up our loan players in recent seasons ! I’m sure Grant had an option on him and decided against it.

I understand the points made and can also understand why we didn’t take the risk, but I do think he will eventually be a top player. Last season were his first steps into the senior level, he had ups and downs but I think proved he could play at that level with glimpses of real class.
I think he is a bigger risk than what we currently have in midfield, and possibly some form of assessment was made with risk vs reward- or perhaps we have other targets?

I dont see much risk really, he was outstanding last season and you would expect him to keep improving

Didn’t really see what he brought to the team. Crew a much better player.
Be surprised if a loan deal for Crew isn't done & dusted, just waiting for him to finish his pre-season with Leeds.

I would be surprised, pleasantly, if Crew does sign.  As much as we want him here, he must have other options too, so it can’t be as nailed on as we might hope.?

There's been no mention of him by Grant , think he's keeping his cards close to his chest on this 1. Leeds will have been happy with his development last season &  L1 is a natural progression. Could be completely wrong of course but we'll see

Didn't he spend a fair while away on international duties last term...?  Either way, there is a likelihood that he will be in demand again in the coming years and that can erode a teams consistency.  I wish the lad well...... and hope he features plenty for Northern Ireland...

Good luck to PK and the Dingles for the coming season, he was a good addition last season, but far from the finished article and unlikely to be the talisman midfielder they may want. It will be interesting to see their fans reactions to him, I suspect he will become the latest in a line of decent footballers to be the butt of their whipping boys when they turn out not to be Lionel Messi.

Be interesting to see how he gets on after Matty Craig struggled there last season.

Speaking of Barnsley, not seen Tyke in a while. Hope he’s alright and still feels welcome on here.

I think most of us thought Matty Craig was a better player than Patrick Kelly and he struggled all last season. I thought PK played ok but wasn’t anything special, he may improve but he’s no Galbraith

Barnsley have failed to get the best out of every ex Rovers player they've signed, so perhaps we should be sympathising with Kelly.

Of all the players we've considered since the season ended  PK has not been on anyone's wanted lists. Crew and Craig mentioned plenty of times.

Tend to agree with most that he did OK during his loan and made a good contribution but when you see Barnsleys welcome statement saying "he played a pivotal role" in our promotion season, that's stretching it somewhat!

We may never know whether he was on GMs radar but, even if he was surely at best, it would have been another development loan?

Good luck to him though. Came across as a good lad willing to learn.

We've yet to see how Gotts settles in really and what transpires with Close and Westbrooke, before we can really say whether Crew or PK should have been on the shopping list.

Agree with all of that Baz, some of the acclaim both on here & on fb has surprised me, he was OK, nothing more. Time will tell how he fulfills his potential.

We already have probably one and maybe two too many senior central midfielders. If Crew came in we would have to shuffle two out. It’s not even the money so much but you’ve got senior players not making the squad each week.

Yes. He kind of proves that no one can play really well at Barnsley who has been good for us. Perhaps we should get them to take Close.

The squad’s big enough now that any player we bring in should be improving the first team. Crew would do that so if the opportunity is there I’d hope we would take it regardless of whether we can or will move anyone on.
