Just checked how sales are going for this match and shows all the South Stand blocked out. Has South Stand sold out already ? If it has we should be on for a bumper attendance Be interesting to see how many tickets we give to Rotherham.
-
Or is it a way to prevent Rotherham fans getting in.? Just wondering, I have no evidence for that.
-
Looking at every game there's hardly any tickets left in the south stand. I'd be putting matchday prices up so we can charge more to away fans. There won't be any as cheap as us this season for an away ticket

Ridiculous.
Our pricing has been set, why should late buyers, occasional fans who can’t come often because of work or other commitments, pay much more than those who buy in advance.. it’s what, a quid more to pay on the day, which is fair enough. But a big price hike is out out of order.
Do we want our club to be that sort of operation.? I don’t.

Easy to say when someone else is pumping millions of his own money in every season.

There's only 59 tickets left in the south stand for Wycombe as well

I'd give toytown the same as bradford.

No just give them the north stand and be done with it, they'll give us behind the goal at theirs. Restricting away fans any more than that makes no sense to me.
I'm guessing the south stand is mostly sold out to season tickets this season?

The same person who must have had a say in agreeing the ticket prices.?
We complain when other clubs charge high prices for away tickets so why make us as bad as them.?
Two wrongs don’t make a right..

Just charging £25 a ticket £2 more than what we charged 15 years ago isn't a bad thing.
-
There were only a handful of tickets for the South Stand before the weekend. As suggested on the Exeter Tickets thread, TV 12.30 kick off will probably affect the attendance.
No ticket info yet published on Rotherham website so not sure what allocation will be given to them.
Not sure how the club will approach it but my hunch is we won't sell as many home tickets as the Bradford game last season so Rovers might allow Rotherham nearer 3000 than limit then to 2000 odd.
As said before though it's likely PC plod will insist on a high presence either way.

The pricing policy is already set for this season.

Having seen some of our lower IQ’d fans in action on Saturday, a high police presence isn’t a bad thing!

77 tickets left in the South stand for the Bradford game
-
I'd give toytown the same as bradford.
I don’t get the limiting of the away fans. If someone thinks that we have more chance of winning if there are 1500 away fans rather than 3000, they are wrong.

Totally agree, we need to make money on these derby games so they should get as many as they can sell in the north stand.
What i would like to see though is like on Sat, when small away followings are expected then put them in the north east corner and don't give them the middle of the north stand.
-
I could be wrong here, but didn't GB say that we lost £50000 in revenue by reducing Bradford's allocation? This isn't the same scenario as that game, so I would give Rotherham the full allocation, though the club will do what they see fit.

Could possibly be rearranged if either team have 3+ internationals. England vs Andorra at Villa park (17:00 kick off) the same day too.
-
Just the whole north stand will suffice, no need to go any more overboard than that and allocate part of the east as we have done previously.

GB said recently, they involved McCann in the discussion about Bradfords allocation, and taking everything into account and to maximise home advantage they limited Bradfords allocation so they knew about the potential no not maximising the revenue, bearing in mind, it was a highly profitable game anyway.
If they choose to do the same again, that's fine by me although, we don't know how well home tickets will sell for this one given the TV slot.

Maximising home advantage is fine but in an absolute extreme case the biggest advantage that could be gained in this situation is 0.1 of a goal. That 0.1 of a goal cant be worth more than the £50-60k lost revenue. Its the wrong thing to do.

Looking like the South now sold out for the Bradford game

There's no absolute right or wrong. There are no doubt plenty of factors and variables for the club to consider when making the call. Decisions are normally made for a reason or reasons which aren't always that obvious. I trust the club to do what they think is right for this particular game.
-
Let Rotherham fans have the North stand we won’t be allowed to split for home fans as per Bradford last season.
Same for the Bradford game as the attendance could be affected as will be able to watch on Sky plus as no premier league or Championship games will be shown international weekend unless more than 3 players will be called up we don’t have that at the moment.

The decision was made for sporting advantage I believe. I’m just saying the advantage was extremely minimal. We are talking <2.5% advantage at very most. Probably sub 1.5% realistically. That can’t be worth £50k+.

People talk about TV slots like it's not on TV every week anyway. Genuinely surprised sky still sell subscriptions

They sell mainly to older people like myself who don't trust firesticks.
The situation will probably change over the next 20 years or so.
-
I don’t think TV will have the monopoly of football broadcasting for much longer .Clubs will have their own broadcasting and streaming and Sky will depend on International subscribers to English football it will burst the financial bubble that is killing enthusiasm amongst ordinary fans and distaste for the riches of the few clubs and millionaire Premiership players we have now. This is more a wish than anything, I guess.

Some tickets back on sale in the South Stand.
Rotherham haven't published their ticket allocation yet as far as I can see.
Worth noting though, we have allocated Bradford 3000 tickets this time.

Interesting discussion this one. You hear many of the top teams or individuals in Sport looking for that fine % margin to beat an opponent. You can obviously maximise your performance but out of that what can you do? I have heard many things to get the slightest advantage, watering a pitch, briefing ball boys on speed of returning the ball, making away dressing rooms cold and horrible the dark arts and even having pre match superstitions. Reducing the away support possibly gives that fine margin, less vocal encouragement, a big crowd can help change momentum, pressure the ref, get on oppositions backs and make a foul seem more than it really was with a huge reaction. Players speak of fans getting them over the line, the 12th man and so on. So the less of them the better. It was an extremely fine margin that we edged that Bradford game, and in part no matter how fine a difference the lower allocation made it was part of our successful ingredients of the day.
I think it would be done again, but only in a massively crucial game.

Yes, small gains are obviously a part of finding an edge. In this situation you can tangibly quantify a potential sporting gain vs economic cost and then work out if there is value in the decision.

Talking of Rotherham at home, does anyone recall a home game against them where we were thrashed about 0-6 but the Rovers players each received a free telly from a sponsor? Must be about 30 odd years ago?

Yeah I think it was the Rumbelows cup (league cup), though I can't remember the season, but 30 years ago seems about right.
Just looked on soccerbase and the final score was 6-2 to Rotherham back in August 1990.
-
The tvs were for highest score over two legs, lost 2nd leg 2-1 for an 8-3 aggregate
-
If you look at the performances and results of last season's 3 big derby games against Chesterfield, Grimsby, and Bradford, the decision to give Bradford the same measly amount of tickets as they gave us was completely vindicated.
The huge Chesterfield contingent in particular really got under the skins of 1 or 2 of our players, especially Billy.
I'll bet Terry wasn't bothered about the loss of revenue when we pumped Bradford.
-
Now confirmed Rotherham have been allocated 3000 tickets.
-
Interesting debate to be had on Sky and their subscribers going down (significantly) in no small part down to piracy and the fire stick man.
Raises a discussion on how much longer they can support the Premier league, and then the knock on impact to EFL clubs.

That'll be part of it but also, saturation. There's just too much football and it actually dilutes the quality of the product.
-
It dilutes enjoyment too. Satiation arrived a while back and it's getting worse. Greybeards may remember childhood advice that one should always leave the table wanting more. Football, and it's Sky inspired hyperbole, left that behind a while ago. They've forgotten that sooner or later there is always a price to be paid. We're surrounded by huge examples of that right now in the fields of both politics and business. Football isn't immune.

I agree in general throughout the league we should be giving full allocation and maximise sales.
If it gets to the nitty gritty and we arenin with a shout where we give them minimum allocation will reduce noise (like last yr) then I agree with that. I remember GM quoting an opposing manager restricting our numbers for the same reason.
But in general this year we should be giving full allocation to maximise income
-
Not only did we give Bradford a reduced allocation but I'm sure Gavin said in an interview we also gave them a smaller changing room.

The global rights bring in enormous money. Everyone wants to watch the Prem in the Far East in particular

In new stadiums you have to have dressing rooms the same size for both teams.
The home dressing room does have an extra warm up area though so is a few square yards bigger. The stadium tour is well worth doing if you ever get the chance. I’ve done it about four times.

It was something to do with a game a few weeks before when the Dons were playing straight after us and the away dressing is their home dressing room. This meant the away dressing room couldn't be used so our opponents were put in the academy changing rooms and we continued this until the end of the season.
-
Ah, thank you, I didn’t know that.
