Title: League table
Post by: scawsby steve on August 18, 2025, 05:27:46 pm
A bit pedantic I know, but it might interest someone like DU or BST that likes attention to detail.

League 1 currently has us in 5th place and Bradford in 6th. We've both got the same points, goal difference, and goals scored, and there's no head to head details so far this season.

Normally they'd do it alphabetically, but they've not done it here, otherwise Bradford would be 5th. I wonder if they've looked at the most recent head to head, which was last season when we did the double over them.

I know it's not important, I'm just passing a bit of time.

Any ideas?

I wondered the same Steve as I expected it to be alphabetically decided.

I read that earlier, FR, when I was trying to research all the criteria.

It still doesn't explain the current position. It's a bit of a mystery.

I can only think it must be last season's head to head.

Or last seasons league positions.
Or based on who was in the higher position after the previous matches.

Yes, Gaz and Fal are both right. I've only just twigged.

The thing is, is that the criteria they've used, or is it a suggestion?

Someone else mentioned disciplinary records.

Surely it’s because we won an actual trophy and they won a biscuit tray.

Has to be.

Is it that our drawn game had goals in it, and theirs was a nil nil?

Is it cos they think they are a massive club and no one else does?

They must have changed it then, because they've also got us down as 5th.

Someone on YouTube said it was disciplinary points.

Reading the linked bbc article, disciplinary record seems to be the most likely determinator

9.4 Where two or more Clubs are tied after the procedures set out in Regulations 9.1 to 9.3 inclusive then the highest placed Club shall be the Club which has accumulated the lowest total number of penalty points (as determined in accordance with Regulations 9.5 and 9.6) following the completion of 42 League matches in the relevant Season.

9.5

I haven't added up the points, but in terms of yellows it's 4 - 10 in our favour, so almost certainly we have less points.

9.5
  • Any cautionable offence 4 penalty points
  • Denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball 10 penalty points.
  • Denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent whose overall movement is towards the offender’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick 10 penalty points.
  • Serious foul play 12 penalty points.
  • Spitting at an opponent or any other person 12 penalty points.
  • Violent conduct 12 penalty points.
  • Using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures 12 penalty points.
  • Receiving a second caution in the same match 10 penalty points.

Nice one, BRR. It seems that Bradford are 6th because they're a set of dirty buggers.

To add to that, it seems that we're now 10th because we can't score goals.
