Strong team. Let's see what Hanlan can do with a start. More good opportunities for others to stake their claim.

Accrington seem to be pressing Rovers quite well. One good chance for Nixon so far.

Rovers largely ineffective first half, 4 shots only 1 on target. Mind you Stanley only 1 but it was on target.
Title: Re: Stanley V TLOD
Post by: big fat yorkshire pudding on August 26, 2025, 08:34:34 pm
Well controlled but lacking a bit of spark. Maxwell and ajayi both should have hit the target.

Hanlan largely has been ineffective bar one good bit of strength Vs his defender.
Title: Re: Stanley V TLOD
Post by: Prez on August 26, 2025, 08:35:36 pm
Very difficult against such a big physical side. Last 15 was poor. Ajayi needs to do much more, not been impressed so far with him, or Hanlon.

I’ve hardly noticed anything from Crew who I would have expected to be prominent in this company.  Have I missed something or is this a fair comment?

Not sure what Hanlan offers yet. That’s a stonewall penalty though. Ref doesn’t seem to know that shirt pulling is not allowed

And she is bloody awful.
Title: Re: Stanley V TLOD
Post by: steve@dcfd on August 26, 2025, 08:39:01 pm
The back 4 and Close are the best players on the pitch and could play in the first team.
Crew slow and doesn’t drive with ball his passing poor
Sbarra runs about the pitch but doesn’t supply any good passes to the players in front.
Ajayi on this performance looks poor does nothing with the ball and loses it in bad positions
Hanlan should have scored one but no supply on the floor or to him.
Gibson another poor show not supplying anything good going forward
None of these are putting pressure on the players that are in the first team.

No purpose in them, no real idea how to make things happen so far. Important we win this.

Trying to walk it in, we've got in some decent positions around the edge of the box, need to test the keeper. Feels like a small pitch here, albeit a nice playing surface.

Post by: drfchound on August 26, 2025, 08:45:46 pm
I thought Hanlan did really well in the first half hour.
Good hold up play and one run to the byline when he was potentially fouled.
Unlucky too with the contact on a cross from the right.

Post by: Fal on August 26, 2025, 08:47:07 pm
Yeah not convinced by Hanlon so far, can’t work out if he’s just not great or just doesn’t fit our system very well. Thought he should’ve scored from 6 yards out but seemed he got it stuck between his feet

Close is looking good though, looks a class above anything else in midfield.

Yes, but was it entirely necessary to risk your most creative and critical player given what’s coming up on Saturday? As it turns out, we’d have won the game without introducing Molly at all as he no contribution to either goal and was already off injured

Saturday is just another league game.

We want to progress in the cup.

It’s a risk getting out of bed, so if Moly has picked up an injury, it’s bad luck.

Moly's been kicked up and down a few times but don't recall him having to be subbed before. He's made of strong stuff so it must be bad or precautionary.

It’s not just another league game. It’s our biggest derby of the season. But ok, it was a good decision to fetch him on against a team 4th bottom of league 2. In my opinion, it wasn’t needed but it’s fine if you disagree, that’s allowed too.

But weren't they reduced to 10 men due to the foul on Mols.

So perhaps Mols did have a hand in the victory.

It’s only our biggest derby from a fan perspective, which I have no issue with.

It’s just another game for the players, and so it should be.  It’s the most important fixture simply because it’s the next one.

We don’t get 4 points for a win because it’s a close rival..
