Can't have long left surely.

Well I hope we play 'em before the bullet arrives...

Later: given Peterborough's penchant for re-employing previous managers I hope McCann is locked down solid :):):)
-
McCann won’t go back there as the chairman and him don’t get on anymore can see him gone either tonight or sometime on Monday
-
I know!
Jests are wasted sometimes...

Their chairman actually called out cliff in one of his podcasts.
No chance of a return..

3-0 shame

"Cliff cliff". Maybe

Anyone in the know, have any idea what’s gone wrong there? They always appeared to be pretty progressive, found some gems (strikers) and got good money for them. Seems they haven’t recovered from that Sheff Wednesday playoff come back. Can’t see them in League 2 really.

Can't remember it word for word but was along the lines of "Grant is a good bloke and we're OK but his number two!.......jesus, I'll say no more about him (may have said idiot??)

Haven't they been playing with a crowd of kids for some reason? Last season too I think. It's hardly credible but have they got a money problem?
BobG
-
They missed out on fees for some players I seem to remember
-
The risks on players don't always pay off often enough and while we hear about the headliners, we don't hear about the failures or the ones who walk for free.
If you play that game you have to be prepared to lose your better players plus you can't always control when they leave. They're in a lean cycle at the moment but they may regroup and come again.

I saw a lot of complaints online from their fans last season about trimming of budget affecting the quality of the playing squad.

They have been in League One for the last three full seasons. Their books actually look ok-ish. Operating loss is around £1.5-£2m at moment which is likely less than us and they turned an c£1m operating profit in 2022.
However, this only happens because they monetise talent very well. For the last three full years of their accounts they booked player profit of £4m, £3.2m and £1.5m. We do the smaller of those only once in a blue moon.
They have a fairly steady wage bill of around £7.5m which is you would imagine significantly more than us.
It is basically a reasonably well run club - but - only so if they continue their very good record of monetising talent. They lost Jade-Jones for zip this summer and it only needs a few deals in the long-term pipeline not to be monetised and their numbers don’t look so good.

Thank you CBCB. I have a hazy memory of hearing Fergie saying last season that they were going to struggle because they had to play youngsters. It does make you wonder if either their business model is no longer effective, or, the world has moved under them. Is whatshisname still willing to put his hands in his pockets? It doesn't look very likely nowadays does it?

I think that McAnthony’s business isn’t doing as well as previously. I heard he was based in the U.S. as well now but don’t know for sure.
I remember them both talking Grant and the club down when Grant came back.

Cheers CBcb. Great info.

They've been punching above their weight as a club for a while based on the owner's money and to be fair a very effective approach to identifying saleable talent. Seems like they've had issues with both in recent years.
-
McAnthony had a pop on twitter at Grant and Cliff, when they left the club the last time. Labelled them “the previous crew”.
Don’t think Grant was too impressed. Must be loving how we are now well above them.

Fergie was never any good at turning a run of form around. Remember he got us out of trouble when he 1st joined before we just couldn’t stop losing
-
They have 1 point from a possible 21 this season and a minus 10 goal difference.

I think they made a huge mistake sacking their previous manager.
-
Who would want to go there in their current state of affairs? Fergie knows he is on borrowed time.

Peterborough Sports are bottom of Nat North to.

They got that obsessed with signing players with potential for a big sale in the future that they forgot to build a half decent squad for the present.
Crazy they’ve got a squad this poor after generating millions in player sales. I can’t imagine the blame is with Fergie here.
