Title: Street
Post by: Donnybax on August 31, 2025, 01:13:59 pm
Lincoln have turned down £1 million for him from another league 1 club.

How can they turn down a million for him? They must be mental.

Not that mental really, don’t forget palace wanted to offer him a new contract, but he chose to move to Lincoln, for decent about.
Playing with us has definitely increased his value, so they will know they are holding a player who unless he goes down hill, will attract numerous clubs, so why sell so quickly?

I was thinking Port Vale, just got a big sum for a forward and Moore would have seen his performances for us.

Because they might get more in January or next summer.

Or, if they were to be promoted, that might be worth more than £1million.

He’s only just come good so why wouldn’t they want that benefit on the pitch, I hope we would with our best players.

I've seen it reported as being Luton which is probably more likely than those mentioned above.

They can turn it down if Streets not interested.

How can they turn down a million for him? They must be mental.

Because there is a scarcity of strikers with his combination of attributes.

Market forces.

Maybe they are willing to risk what he may develop into.

Either a more valuable asset to sell or an extremely important player for them.

And I was ‘scorned at’ for saying Lincoln would want £1-£1.5 million for him.

“Only UAE clubs pay that sort of money for Lg1 players” I believe was the repost.

To be fair Luton are still on Parachute payments are they not,so not the average league one finacial structured club at the moment.

A Lincoln friend  seams to think the offer turned down is 600k up front.

I don't think he's worth £1 million. He's had half a good season in his career and it was in league 2. Plus he's 23. It's a risk to turn that down for me.

Remember Watters had half a good season at L2 and went for 1m.

It makes no difference what anyone thinks, all that matters is who holds all the cards thinks. He has 4 years left on a contract with Lincoln, they can ask what they want.

If we turned down 500k+ for McGrath, Street for 1m makes sense.

I don't mean that to the detriment of Jay either.

Or maybe someone who thinks he’s not worth £1 million is “mental”?

Maybe he didn’t want to move South, if we had offered 1N it might have been a different outcome.

Street played 22 games scored 12 goals in league 2 at the age of 23
Lowe played 22 games scored 15 goals in league 2 at the age of 19
Yes Lowe is younger but not a lot of difference when you think Lowe had a preseason and Street came to us in January initially played wide left but transformed when played as a 9

So this summer Stoke turned down offers of £2.5m for Lowe. He’s gone on loan to Stockport.
So £1m for Street is not mad it’s his market value to Lincoln who want more and so they should that’s why we were never ever going to get him.

Exactly this. If Street was ours, a lot of our fans would be wanting 3 mil for him.

Judging players on short term goal output is a very inaccurate way to go about judging the value of a player.

Isn’t much of a players value concerned with what he will bring to a new team, rather than what he has done before.?

It’s an investment not a reward..

Are there many 6 foot 2 plus, physical, quick and clinical strikers out there that are as good as Street but cheaper?

Yep, i thought exactly this when we had Adelakun on loan, as a journeyman he'd been around the block and never really settled anywhere, he came to us and fitted our system like a glove, that end to the season has to be the best spell just about anyone on here alive has ever witnessed for the Rovers. Sometimes a player arrives with little fanfare judging by his previous exploits but just fits into our team and plays the best football of his career including scoring goals when his historic average is meagre.

Street did something very similar for us last season.

We can say with some justification that our management are very adept at getting the best out of some average sounding players.

Who's going to be the wild card this season?

Signing the lad from Steps would be a hell of a wildcard to be fair. Not sure he offers much up front though.
