Title: Billy
Post by: Filo on September 06, 2025, 05:33:29 pm
Outstanding today, my MoM, had Joe Wright on toast in that first half, special mention to Gibbo who got 10/10 for winding the Bradford fans up after they gave him shit

Masterclass today in dropping deep, hold up play, and go playing others in. And what a goal. And extra points for the chicken dance…

His best game for a long time. His first touch was top class today.

He’s been superb so far this season. Delighted he scored today, too.

Keep it up Billy.

Made Joe Wright look like he’d never put a pair of football boots on before.

Street did the same, in a different way, to their centre half last season. Do are happy to leave them 1v1 so I’m surprised they haven’t been caught out more by decent forwards

He really struggled today.

Sharp was playing games inside Wright's head today.  You could hear the words. "You're a decent player spadger, but I'm going to show you your limitations today."

That was a masterclass by Sharp today ,one of the most complete centre forward performances I've seen in a Rovers shirt in a long time. His hold up play was immense long may it continue !

Brilliant goal celebration.
Gibbo gave it to their fans two after he scored.
I also loved the way Gibbo went behind the net and close to their fans after his cross was netted by Mols.

Immense today, the way he put his body between the ball and the big defender for his goal was genius. That and tracking back to defend, unbelievable work rate.

Striker position whilst he's played isn't the issue I keep saying it. It's the number 10. Clifton wasn't bad today though.

Not a Clifton fan , but he's probably what was needed last 2 league games in local Derby's, pressing & harrying . If we are serious about progressing though we need better in that position come January

Watching him chicken dance and peck the corner flag in front of their fans was almost better than the goal. Worth the price of a season ticket alone.

Clifton was good today although he fluffed both his two 1:1 chances. Still, at least he got in that position.

I watched the game yesterday with a mate of mine who’s much, much more knowledgeable about football that I’ll ever be having worked with West Ham & Spurs over the years.

He kept highlighting the work that Billy does without the ball. His movement that makes space for himself and his team mates, drawing defenders out of position. That type of talent comes from years of experience that he obviously has.

He must be a real handful to play against.

Bradford fans really don't like Billy, do they? Was walking alongside some of their fans on the way out of the ground, and one of them was saying that. He wasn't being aggressive and I just said "I think I have a different view on that." I don't think Billy worries too much about what opposing fans might think. Especially with that chicken

He now deserves his own Legends Banner at the back of the South Stand.

Maybe a new song. "You're Once, Twice, Three times a Legend. Oh Billy we love you..."

Perception is an interesting thing. Billy’s output numbers are pretty much all down on what he produced last season yet his start to the season has been lauded more than last season it fells like.

I was exhausted after the 1st half yesterday, It had pretty much everything and like you say the celebration was amazing. Bradford must hate playing us as we seem to have the better of them of late. 2nd half wasn't as dramatic but Gibbo lit the torch paper casually walking behind the goal in front of the away end, the Bradford fan falling over giving it large was priceless. Cracking derby game.

He’s gone up a league and is still getting older. A lot of the lauding is as much surprise or admiration.

Yes, I agree. Obviously the durability playing Sat/Tues/Sat and the amount of minutes he has contributed plays into it as well. What contribution we get out of T or Hanlan is going to have a big impact on how our season goes.

Do we think those around him being better and playing better helps?  Ability wise he's still clearly the quickest of thought, but players like Molyneux, bailey have improved to play much more quickly and that to me is helping Billy in the same way it helped Copps with better players.

The top all time scorer in the EFL is Arthur Rowley with 433.
Billy is a long way back from that Grainge.

Billy has 285 career goal to his name, including the six he scored in the MLS.
He has put on record that he wants to get to 300.
