Not a great weekend results wise for any of the teams that our young players out on loan play for.
Just like any professional football nowadays results generally in non league like the Premiership especially is determined by how much money the clubs can afford to pay the playing staff, the merry go round of the better players moving clubs for more money probably higher in numbers than in the EFL.
All the four players we have out on loan are with clubs not that fancied to do that well at their level being not any of the better off clubs financially at their level, which should be taken into consideration, its about their development and improvement not results of the team, they are there to get game time and hopefully help to keep their sides at the level they are at and hopefully a little cup run for finances.
Will Flint, Kyle Hurst, and Sam Brown's sides were on the wrong end of five nil defeats but individually did ok, in the case if Will the game was already lost as he came on at 62 minutes and did well himself according to a mate who watched the game.
Kyle Hurst found it difficult to get in the game with service to him being sparse, but worked back as cover and had a couple of runs in attack.
Sam Brown came up against second in the league Fylde who are one of the money sides in the National north league and was in a side largely over run in the game and was subbed off on 62 minutes but worked hard and never gave in a trend in a young player.
Bobby Faulkner had his first league start for Harrogate in a one nil defeat. In the game he had a battle with a giant of a centre forward, came out on top in fact the Crawley player was sent off for a late tackle on him as they carried on their war. In the NON League Paper he was a seven which backed up the Harrogate supporters MOM award so had a great start individually was spoken of highly in the managers after game interview and nearly gained his side a point when a header from a set piece struck the back of one of his team mates and deflected wide for a goal kick so unlucky not to start with a bang.
-
Thanks for these summaries, which are indeed the only way we can follow the progress of these lads who we hope are part of our future squads .

Faulkner started his third game of the week against Swindon at Swindon on Saturday who in the Top two of Division two.
Harrogate got away to a surprise start an took the lead and were unlucky not to go further ahead hitting the post and missing a very good chance in a first half in which they more than matched Swindon and with Bobby having a great start to the game looking solid.
Again they conceded just before the break which changed the dynamics of the game with Swindon pushing on, and making substitutes that have class and experience at that level and Harrogate picked up a couple of injuries that affected their shape.
They held out quite well until the 71st minute with little between the teams but conceded a good goal and Swindon dominated the rest of the game. scoring a third goal just before the end that was harsh on Harrogate to a point but a bit of a recurring problem conceding and not taking chances.
Bobby himself did ok, for 70 minutes very well but as the team lost shape was pulled out wide lost a bit of control. All round a good 6/6.5.
Will Flint was a unused sub at Wealdstone where Kyle Hurst had a great game bringing out a worldie from the keeper got an assist and 8 out of ten mark on the NL Paper.
Peterborough sports won their first game under the new manager Phil Brown in the FA cup against against Hornchurch who are top of the Southern section while Peterborough Sports are sitting bottom of the Northern section so a bit of a surprise although the northern section is considered the stronger.
So a new manager with contacts at that level managing a side that just missed out of the play offs last season and a challenge for Sam to establish himself again with no doubt more experienced players being brought in.

Saturday 27th Bridlington play Bradford Park
Am I right in thinking that may see Kasper Williams (Brid) and Sam Straughan Brown (BPA) playing against each other?
I've got a van at Brid, might go up to watch it as I won't be doing Luton away.
-
Thought Sam was at Peterborough Sports?

For anyone that are interested Middlesbrough v Gateshead is on you tube broadcast tonight with Kyle Hurst and Will Flint both starting the game.
7-30pm KO
-
Kyle Hurst unfortunately picked up an injury just before half time in a heavy tackle that took him out, when he was one of the few threats to the Middlesbrough's defence and had to come off.
Looking sharp and fit with the confidence to take defenders on it stunted his progress after also playing well in last weekends game.
Will Flint played the full 90 minutes mostly doing well against a decent attack and not exactly getting a lot of help from wider defenders and and a midfield in front of him ,areas where the sharper work and pace was in Middlesbrough's favour. With his partner in central defence they played well under constant pressure Will not playing in hjs preferred position but doing ok.
So both did ok Hurst standing out in an average side and hopefully not too badly injured.
Gateshead would be better served playing Flint as a defensive mid fielder where he would offer them more control of a game.
-
Anyone with a bit of time before the match and interested Faulkner and Anderson are playing for Harrogate and Shrewsbury on Sky +early kick off
-
Faulkner had a really good game against Shrewsbury today in an early Kick off that allowed me to watch both games including the Rovers, which was a disappointing result and an untidy game with AFC Wimbledon once again just a spoiling football team who seem to get away with it.
In his fourth start he recorded his and his defensive team mates second clean sheet that was the foundation of Harrogate's win.
Playing every game on the left side to accommodate others who are right sided only and not as comfortable on the left, it seems to make little difference to his defensive ability, quick, good in the air, a great tackler with strength to fend off the physical challenge, and with the playing experience in sides not that good is seeing enough of the ball to improve technically visibly, and is fast building his reputation as an accomplished uncompromising young defender Strikers will not enjoy playing against, and once again is becoming a firm favourite with his loan clubs supporters.
At the moment Will Flint is not getting the rub of the green at Gateshead and came on as a sub in the 86th minute partly because the side does not really employ a central defensive mid fielder his best position, a modern position hard to play and not normally trusted by managers to youngsters.
Kyle Hurst however is getting the game time in and is proving his worth in an average side in the National League and again did well individually although ending up on the losing side.
I will try and pick up info on others out on loan and if anyone also gets information please add if you don't mind.
-
I know Jack Muldoon’s brother and hes watched every HT game. Says Bobby is immense.
-
Faulkner was in the Football League paper Division 2 team of the week, and was given 9 out of 10 in their performance chart.
He is doing at Harrogate what he has done in loans before, he takes part in a disproportionate number of clean sheets for the teams he plays in, and is not a player any striker would want to mix with and effects games, a proper old fashioned defender and has exceptional pace for a big lad.
A big challenge next week at Gillingham, which as we all know as Rovers fans is never an easy place to go.
-
I'm glad Bobby is doing so well. He has a lot to offer and this is a big season for him. Showing what he's got in a tough league will be a great platform for his future.
-
Faulkner is really doing well at Harrogate having another great game with his central defence partner O'Conner.
In his last four starts they have won three including this win at the then top of the division Gillingham, and his third clean sheet in four games including the cup game at Mansfield, and v Shrewsbury and Gillingham.
He makes a difference leading from the front , physical and quick and players around him have stepped up with the experienced O'Conner alongside him forming a formidable defence down the centre.
Todays result must be one of the best and surprising in the whole of the EFL today.
-
Hurst and Flint on bench for Gateshead tonight but they are 4-0 up at 12 mins against Morecambe.
-
Hurst and Flint both on as second half subs. How on earth do you find yourself 4-0 down at home after 12 minutes??!

This after getting pasted by the leagues whipping boys, Truro, on Saturday.
They’ve tried to do something different with this new gaffer but can’t see it lasting much longer.

We were once, over 30 years ago to Halifax, well it might have been 17 or 18 minutes, but something like that

An all substitute appearances but successful evening tonight with Gateshead winning five two at Morecambe with Kyle Hurst coming on in his usual position on 62 minutes and Will flint coming on the left side of a back three in the 72nd minute and both doing well when on the field.
Bobby Faulkner the same came on as Huddersfield were starting to get well on top pressing for an equaliser in an EFL cup game on 62 minutes, followed minutes later by his central defender partner O'Conner at Harrogate to help chalk up a fourth clean sheet in five games heading, tackling, and getting rid when in danger to win the game after a drone attack stopped the game, and well done to a much changed Harrogate side who to a man worked their socks off.
So well done to all tonight.
-
Gateshead seem to score and concede an awful lot of goals. Must be fun to watch.
-
In 13 Gateshead League matches this season there’s been 50 goals, but in 13 Aldershot League matches there’s been 55 goals

Drone attack? Where did they play it? Kiev?
-
The teams left the field when a drone was spotted flying over on 84 minutes and came back on to finish the game after it left the area.
Not funny really, imagine that at such as Old Trafford with a full house and just be Amazon delivering a parcel or from a forward thinking local chippy.
And seriously how easy it would be for serious activists.

Would any self-respecting serious activists attack an EFL Trophy game?

Didn't we have a problem with a drone over the ground a couple of seasons back? I recollect the game being stopped

RTR, to be honest it might be a lot easier than a pop concert in Manchester, and that did enough damage who just wanted to go to a good concert.
Probably quite innocent last night, but?

Sam Brown came on as a substitute in a poor loss in the FA cup to a team from a lower division 4-1. on Saturday.
Phil brown their new manager was upset at the end a threatening to change the players to compete at the level they are at, so things not going well with a young side with loans from mainly academy sides including Grants lad on loan from Barnsley.
It's no reflection on Sam the National North league is a great learning school for young players, a sink or swim place to be brought up, and Sam is very young for that standard and in 12 months will be a changed player with a lot going for him if he learns the game and can live with the physicality and team mates who depend on the fee they get for playing, and the hard knocks of playing with men the same for young McCann far better a schooling than u21s.
-
Westbrook has just come on for Scunthorpe with them beating York 1-0 on 71 minutes.
-
Phil Brown , bloody hell, he’s not done any good in a job since Southend about 8 years, best thing GM could do is get Sam Brown out of there as soon as possible

Watched Kasper Williams turn out for Bridlington Town vs Bradford Park Avenue (top of the league) last Saturday.
Had a chat with Steve, Kaspers dad, before the game. Kasper is well thought of at the club & has been a regular starter since he came to Brid (let’s bear in my this lad is still only 17) & I told his dad I would like to sponsor his shirt for the season (the Brid website is so ‘poor’ you’re unable to do this online!) only to be told he’d just that minute got sponsors for Kasper’s home & away shirt (£50 for the season with your name printed in the programme. No framed shirt at the end of the season mind you, it is £700 cheaper than sponsoring Ethan Ennis!) so well done Kasper’s dad.
The 0-0 result was more down to poor finishing than ‘excellent defending’, but another 90 minutes of ‘brute force’ & little protection given by the officials for Kasper to ‘endure’ & learn how to deal with the physicality of players twice his weight & despite the result, no doubt feel their ‘job done’ as a centre forward to have ‘dragged’ (literally!) a young centre back from pillar to post.
Kasper won more aerial battles than he lost, but his distribution was more ‘boot it into the beyond’ than head up & look for the pass. Down to the manager/tactics asked for?
I’ll keep you posted.
-
Draytonian having being close to him on the touchline at Buxton last year, a full on nut of a manager during the game, and very entertaining in way.
-
Yesterday at Gateshead Will Flint and Kyle Hurst played full games in a 3-1 loss v Boston united after two wins in away games they once again fell to the bogey that seems to be against them in home games.
Will was played in a back four as a central defender finding it difficult to get game time in his best position as a defensive mid fielder with the manager proffering the experience of Jacob Butterfield the ex Barnsley player.
Like in the u18s here Will suffers from being a jack of all trades when his nich is playing just in front of a defensive back line where Darlington had the sense and team set up to get the best out of him but yesterday he really did well in a patched up defence riddled with injury and another couple having to leave the field yesterday injured so up against it and won the sponsors MOM so well done Will in front of Mr Coppinger.
Kyle had a good game and is a fans favourite up there running past defenders, he also had a one on one with the keeper that just didn't run for him but is getting back his confidence on the ball and was Gateshead's biggest threat going forward.
At Peterborough Sports Sam Brown came on at 73 minutes to shore up mid field and bring energy into the side who held out to win 2-1 v Kidderminster and give Phil Brown his first victory since taking over as manager and against his old side.
So a well done to all of them lets hope Bobby does the same for Harrogate against Crewe, a hard game, which I think is televised tomorrow night for anyone interested on Sky Sports Football.
-
I hope wasn’t scouting one of the Boston goal scorers
-
Draytonian, in fairness the club are much more proactive when possible this season to watch in person the players we have out on loan, and most are doing well and at decent levels. I know for certain as I have seen them in attendance Grant, Cliff, and Copps have all watched Bobby in person in games he played in because I saw them there, and have no doubt have covered the other players out when possible.
To my knowledge as a club we have not had the number of players out at the levels we have them out at now and can only be an improvement on what we have had since the u23s were abandoned.
-
I made the comment about a Boston goal scorer as the last one was Jordi Hiwula, it was an attempt at humour.
-
Chance to watch young Bobby Faulkner tonight as he should line up against Crewe. We very rarely hear about him nowadays....
-
MM other clubs have though.
-

Didn't have to fish for long there....

No worm on the hook, either!
-
Watching the match and must say i wouldnt want to watch harrogate week in week out.
Definitly a good loan move for a defender because your gonna be doing plenty of it.
Young bobby doing ok tonight, probably looking at the replays should of had a penalty given against him late in the half, and has the comms team said, probably would have if var was in play.
But generally been keeping the crewe forward quiet.
-
Done OK, but looks knackered..
-
Harrogate have got away with a few dodgy tackles tonight.
Impressed by the left sided player reece smith
-
2,500+ at Harrogate watching!
-
Thought Bobby acquitted himself well. On the back foot for most of the game. O’Connor played well and was unlucky with the deflection.
-
I went to the game last night at Harrogate who were well beaten by a Crewe side who were on their game from the first few minutes while Harrogate looked far from the all action all over the opposition team they had been in the two games previously, especially in mid field who never got into the game.
Basically the game turned into a limitation exorcise by Harrogate's back four and keeper, in which Bobby and O'Conner led the defensive line, and did quite well. just the sort of game Bobby needs experience in, it's a great loan for him getting game time and doing well consistently being marked up as a good seven by those threads that do that thing, the two I saw last night scored him at 7.3 and 7.8 the top score on Harrogate's team, O'Conner also 7.3 and 7.4 closely following, the first experienced partner Bobby has played with in professional football to learn off. Add the fact in every game Harrogate will play a lot in their own half and he will be involved, its a great loan where he is enjoying it, and says with a great set of lads and a very supportive manager and staff.
Just one for the TV watchers Bobby says never a pen he didn't touch him, and the referee had warned their player before about assimilation the ref had a good view, says slowing it down exaggerated it.
I am not siding with anyone I haven't seen it. but there was no reaction in the crowd at all, didn't know anything about it till after the game.
-
A very good day for the three main players we have out on loan, Will Flint after impressing in mid week at Grimsby along with goal scorer Kyle Hurst was part of the Gateshead side that breezed home to get Gateshead through to the first round proper of the FA cup, so could possibly become two thorns in our side if allowed to play, if the two sides were drawn out together from the hat tomorrow.
As stated Kyle scored Gateshead's second goal in a dominant display against a side from a lower division, a game they were expected to win, but as we know to our cost in the past easier said than done.
Kyle is now showing the form and the confidence we know he can provide to a team, and is becoming one of Gateshead's important attackers, and also improving his off the ball contribution to the team, and with his attacking ability to go past players is becoming a fans favourite up there.
Will Flint, like the game at Grimsby goes about his game much more low key, but has that football brain and positional intelligence that goes somewhat un noticed but is so effective and difficult as an attacker to play against. A fitness fanatic and a good size he adds some physical benefits to the team, and is composed and not rushed when on the ball, but not adverse to putting his boot through the ball if required. A good defender we may need later in the season.
Bobby Faulkner played in a three two defeat at Fleetwood where Harrogate presented the points on a plate with comical defending that he had no part in at all.
Another eye catching defensive performance from the lad the commentators were drooling about until others caused the result to go tits up, and very little he could do about.
His performances are highlighting the consistency in the level of performances he has shown since earning the shirt at Harrogate and is a firm favourite with their supporters and consistently scores highly when marks are given out in reports on their games,
He has power, pace, and physicality, and is composed when in possession, and knows when to get rid of the ball if required, everything we lacked at Leyton Orient.
So three lads who are making the best of the situation they are in and doing their best to be noticed by clubs and hopefully at the Rovers where if things continue urgent surgery will be required.
-
playing for Peterborough Sports Sam Brown came on as a second half substitute against Alfreton and played his part in their spirited end to the game coming up with an equaliser in the last few minutes in which he played a part.
So doing well under the new manager and being in a team fighting to keep their status in the league he can learn a lot about what it means to be under pressure from the older players he plays with who have a lot riding on what level they play at.
Will Flint also did very well getting praise when he left the field and in the managers summary at the end of the Game which ended 0-0 another good away result for Gateshead placed in the middle of the National league with one of the smallest budgets and look to be fast improving, although booked and taken off by the manager whomthought it too risky to go down to 10 men.
Will like Bobby at Harrogate had to bide his time at first, train well, and when he got the shirt perform and keep it.
With his performance at Grimsby with us and his last few games at Gateshead he has proved his ability with consistent performances and as a central defender, not his best position, so well done Will keep it up.
At Harrogate by his own admission Bobby had his hardest game at Colchester up to press where the defence were under constant pressure despite taking the lead after just a few minutes.
Micah Mbick just 18yrs old gave him his hardest game up to press and earned the admiration of Bobby who thinks he will go far in the game he and the lad on loan from Charlton had a great battle. Stats provided by analysts say that Bobby over the last six games is in the top five defenders in division 2 and is a regular and consistent defender over that period and has played all the games at Harrogate on the left side a position he says has helped him improve positionally and technically, and although really tested enjoyed the battle yesterday once again playing well according to his manager. Another well done Bobby in not a great team, but one that gives everything every week to compete.
So a young player in Mbick who we need to follow if things can happen in January and Charlton want to test him a division higher, with a player who can testify to his ability who has actually played against him.
-
SSB got a last minute winner for Peterborough Sports against Southport Tuesday night! Cleared one off the line earlier in the game as well. Good lad.
-
Phil Brown praised Sam Brown at the end of their win v Southport on Tuesday evening as he came on as a sub in the second half and scored an added time winner and showing great determination to change the game after going behind and get much needed points in a relegation battle.
Will Flint and Bobby Faulkner had hard games last weekend Will once again playing left sided defender not his best position which again is defensive mid field and was sacrificed just after half time though playing reasonably well in a 2-2 draw.
Bobby had his hands full playing against bottom club Newport, and in his words came up against the best lad he has had to mark. Arguably Harrogate's best defender with great stats, but put through his own goal trying to block from close range and gave away a harsh free kick which they also scored from, an unlucky day not given a lot of cover in a poor midfield.
One player who really stood out was Newport's No 44 Braybrooke on loan from Leicester City well worth the statisticians checking on who ran the game.
-
Just for the balance, Bobby was given the lowest rating in the report I have seen of 4.8. Also committed the most fouls.
I feel that had McGrath or any of our defenders scored an OG and conceded a freekick that led to another goal would bring this forum into meltdown. Especially against the bottom side with only 2 wins prior.
Bobby could one day be, but he isn't yet.
-
Not his finest game but he's doing well at Harrogate. They aren't a great side this season but he's got himself in the starting XI and is more than holding his own. I think we can just look at it objectively rather than trying to build him up or bash him down .
-
Just for balance I have four sent to me the lowest a six the highest 6.8, stats very good which reflect the game he had headers and tackle rates well up and passes so where tat came from? probably the bar, they never watched the game.
Everybody has an opinion some look for the worst, he is comfortable there enjoying his football is playing very well which his stats back up , and he may never play for the Rovers again which he knows, but will do well in the game elsewhere, and like others before him could well turn out to be our loss if not.
All he can do is what he is doing playing well, and I hope we as a club are taking as much notice as other scouts, agents, and clubs are, which last season was not the case.
-

The thing the club have in their decision making favour is that they can compare Bobby to Jay, playing at the same level at the same age. Think the staff have had a belief for a while that Jay is better than Bobby. Any decent analyst will be able to prove either way by the end of the season.
-
Yes, everyone has an opinion.
But if it doesn't match it must have come from the boozer.
-
Belle View I have seen a lot of points awarded on different betting and football sites and news papers and very very few score that low even when a player has been abject, which winning 100% tackles and over 90% headers and passes in a game doesn't convert to that.
He was well up and for the last six games near the top of all the defenders in the division stats wise composed for all players in each division, which are made available to the players to study.
He is doing very well in a struggling side, he loves it is happy with his game and knows he must get better to be where he wants to be and has been very consistent.
-
Bobby been given the green light to play against Mansfield in the FA Cup tomorrow.
-
Sensible another game for him in a team that starts the game completely as underdogs.
He had a great game there earlier in the season in the EFL cup where they caused an upset not something i am expecting for them to repeat, but hope they do.
But these are the types of games defenders want at a young age where they are up against it and will be stretched and hopefully come through a stiff test.
And with no guarantee of us advancing through to the third round why not let the loan players play? and be in the shop window as well as play matches.
-
Flint and Hurst on the bench for Gateshead this afternoon
COYR
-
Both been playing well but seem sacrificial lambs with a big squad Flint especially has not been played in his best position in mid field and used right across the back line instead when an injury allows.
The thing is mid field is mainly where they have lacked and been nice to play against in the games I have watched of them.
It's a funny old game.
-
Sam Brown was part of Peterborough Sports recovery in a somewhat surprise win v Chorley 2-1 which continued their escape from the relegation places to 20th in the division after looking stranded a few weeks ago.
He was subbed on 65 minutes but did well and is playing further forward as a 10 so great experience for him and a big lesrning curve he looks to be doing well at.
In the FA cup at AFC Wimbledon Gateshead had a fantastic win at a place we know is not easy to play at but came away with a 2-0 win.
Our two loan players both came on late in the game as substitutes Hurst on 71 minutes and Will Flint on 84 minutes so were part of the party and shored up the defence of a 2 goal lead when The Dons were throwing the kitchen sink at them to get back in the game and did their job well when given the responsibility to do so by the manager, so well done part of the giant killing of the round to me.
Harrogate the team I have watched as much as The Rovers this season were not so lucky at Mansfield, where before the game I feared a real good hiding for them.
The game ended up a close game Harrogate playing way above the form they have showed lately and lost to a fluke Rico shay off both central defenders Bobby and O'Conner's shoulder trying to block a shot.
Bobby played well attracting a well played from both managers at the end of the game and played a big part with all the team giving their best performance for a while.
So well done to all of them two out of three shock results aint bad as the song goes hopefully they all enjoyed the evening.
PS.
Reading the Newport supporters comments on their game v Gillingham Braybrooke once again was the MOM, we need to be looking seriously at this lad if Crew is not the man, probably a lot more for cheaper as well.
-
Not a very good weekend of results with all four main players we have out on loan with all three teams they play for losing close encounters the results not the main points of interest to us the performances are, but it would be nice for their teams do well.
At Gateshead once again Hurst and Flint were the cavalry sent for when their team was losing 2-0 both coming on about the hour mark. In Flints case after a great loan at near bye Darlington and the young player of the year award playing in his best position of defensive mid fielder just in front centrally of a back four he now finds himself playing in positions right across the back four, yesterday fetched on at left side defender in a four. He has done well shown he can play across the back and gives him much needed experience in all positions, but could be so much more help to the team in Central defensive mid field.
Hurst also has done well and generally when Gateshead have won games he has been a big part of them being an attacking force, and yesterday although they couldn't turn the result around they improved Gateshead's form in the game.
Sam Brown meanwhile played the full game at Spennymoor for Peterborough Sports, not the easiest place to go and get a result and ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 result.
He has done really well under the eye of his new manager and is getting good experience in a physical league while they battle to get out of the relegation zone.
As I stated their own performance rather than the result is the most important thing to try and get out of the games for all our loan players out at whatever level, and should teach them ambition and self development if they want to progress in the game.
Harrogate continued their tumble down the league in another 1-0 defeat by Oldham which from reports would have been much heavier but for some great defending by Bobby Faulkner who also had an Equalizing goal harshly disallowed. By all accounts he had a very good game also making one terrific tackle on Mellon to stop what looked like a certain goal and earnt him a good 8 rating in the football league paper and a mention in the report in the Oldham times and in front of a certain Mr Neil Warnock.
-
Saw the Bobby tackle Selby, he showed great strength, pace and composure to get there. I think we’ve made a mistake not cashing in on McGrath and bringing Bobby back in the fold alongside O’Riordan, Pearson and Grehan. Glad he’s doing well up at Harrogate.

This is the tackle. Rapid!
-
Does anyone think that when Kelly broke and passed wide for the winning goal, the Barnsley player would have had the time he got to compose himself and get the shot off like he did with the ginger marker after him.
I think it was Mickey Mellon he chased down who ran us ragged for Morecambe a couple of seasons ago.
Bobby also had what would have been an equalising goal harshly disallowed with a great volley into the corner of the net late in the game.
