He’s doing a tour with The Catenary Wires.

I’ve got tickets for the Sheffield date in November.

How Much I Dislike the Daily Mail - Brian Bilston

Forget the politics. The alliteration, the inventiveness, the pungency are all things of creativity to admire.

I would rather
eat Quavers that are six week’s stale,
blow dry the hair of Gareth Bale,
listen to the songs of Jimmy Nail,
than read one page of the Daily Mail.

If I were bored
in a waiting room in Perivale,
on a twelve hour trip on British rail
or a world circumnavigational sail,
I would not read the Daily Mail.

I would happily read
the complete works of Peter Mayle,
the autobiography of Dan Quayle,
selected scripts from Emmerdale,
but I couldn’t ever read the Daily Mail.

Far better to
stand outside in a storm of hail,
be blown out to sea in a powerful gale
then swallowed by a humpback whale
than have to read the Daily Mail.

Even if
I were blind
and it was the only thing
in Braille,
I still would not read
the Daily Mail.

A Professional Lumberjack
Stuck up a tree

You just couldn’t make that one up.

Another belter from Brian.

Roger’s Thesaurus

In order to grow, expand, widen
his lexicological corpus,
Roger bought, acquired, purchased
a synonymopedia, a thesaurus.

Soon, presently, without delay,
he no longer ran out of things to say,
speak, utter, express, articulate,
give voice to, pronounce, communicate.

This was all very well, fine, great,
wonderful, super, terrific
but his friends, mates, pals found him
boring, tedious, dull, soporific.

So let this be a warning,
an omen, a sign, a premonition,
it’s all very well to show learning,
education, knowledge, erudition,

but here’s a top tip, a hint,
a suggestion, some advice,
don’t ever let it stop you
from being concise
brief, short, clear, pithy,
succinct, compendious, to the point,
compact, snappy, laconic.
Breviloquent.

Saw Brian, with the Catenary Wires, this evening in Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine's 'The Stables' just south of Milton Keynes in Woburn Sands. Very good value. Deadpan, self deprecating delivery, good tunes, impressive lead guitar and entirely controversy free. A shame that last tbh. I'd persuaded my right wing ex MK Councillor friend to go too. But a good night out. Intelligent humour, music, a beer and a nice place. Can't ask for much more. If he/they are in your neck of the woods you could do a lot worse.

I've got tickets for the Foundry at Sheffield, on the 25th. Sold it to my Mum & sister too, looking forward to it, I like what I've heard on Spotify.

There’s four of us going and you should be able to spot us as one of the group is about eight foot tall with messy hair and an unruly beard. He also happens to be Donnywolfs nephew!

Brian’s Halloween poem…

Come, take this hand in yours
And bury it beneath the trees
While I go and get the rest of him
Out of the deep freeze.

Brian and the Catenary Wires were brilliant last night at the Foundry in Sheffield.

Great music as always and fantastic delivery from Brian.

Almost got herded into the Kneecap gig at the Octagon next door where they were all getting scanned with metal detectors whilst our gig was much more civilised.

Not sure if I spotted Spud but we were on the back row if you were looking.

I thought that was you's (DW's nephew was the give away lol), I did think you were a three though, until I just read back now.

We (me, my mum & sister), were about 4 or 5 rows in front of you, on the same side.
We really enjoyed it too, great gig, glad I convinced em to take a punt on it. I'll have to get the tea towel another time lol.
