Been knocking on the door and was brilliant when he came on yesterday.
He’s one of the first names on the team sheet now for me.
-
Did you not invite him in?
:coat:

Decent game and we looked more organised and the shape was better when he was on.
Not sure fetching him off for Broadbent was going to change the game.

Created chances in the first half with Close on, created nothing bringing Broadbent on but i'd imagine GM wanted some insurance to prevent all the points disappearing
Clifton was made to look a massive miss today again.

This thought process about Clifton is bizarre. We created more in this game than any game for ages.

I was looking at it from the point of view of putting the ball in the net, yes we created a great many good chances, the trouble was we didn't have anyone who looked like finishing them, Clifton if anything always gets into a position where he has a chance to finish, could we say that about some of our players today?

Clifton is a bit like Brian Stock; not pretty to watch and analysing his attributes is more challenging than simply quantifying his achievements and they have been significant.

Really? Nothing like Brian stock.

Stock oozed class and dictated games. Clifton doesn’t…

Gaz he had a good first half when he had time on the ball, second half they shut it off, looked to expose our lack of pace down the middle of defence, and for their goal just played around him and the central defenders to get behind.
Most of our defenders are good facing the ball, not so good when run directly at or have to turn and make ground up on attackers.
Today I thought the game was a good one to watch, two evenly matched teams with poor defences and poorer attacks that snatched and missed chances, with odd bits of decent football between poor periods of play.
On a brighter note, if Sheffield United and the Wednesday come down can we afford not to be in this division next season.
-
Clifton the same as Stock. That's the most hilarious thing I've ever heard on this forum.
What an insult to one of our best centre midfielders ever.
Only Whiteman can be put in the same breath as Stock

Have you got the right player?
Stock was extremely pretty to watch. Very easy on the eye, superbly talented footballer.
I don’t mind Clifton but absolutely nothing like Stock.

Clifton is Biggins mk2, only I’m not sure he’s as good.

Perhaps memories of Stock’s style have sweetened over time and maybe I am wrong, but I think of Stock as a player who was aggressive in his style and very effective, like Clifton. He certainly had his share of yellow cards too.

Nearest player now to Stock in terms of attributes is Ben Close.

Maybe yours have soured? Ask 100 Rovers fans if Stock was easy on the eye and 99 of them would correctly say yes.

OK I’m wrong. It’s happend before!

Safe to say I have been by far one of his biggest critics but credit where it’s due again he was excellent today. Against a better team and no disrespect to Burton I think he will go missing but he’s been really good so far and deserves his place.

Although since he has been injured we have won how many games....?

Alf Ramsey famously said that he didn’t always pick the best players but that he picked the players who were best for the team.

Took the words right out of my mouth there, that ball he played threaded through the middle for Molly was sublime. Won't be afforded time and space to do that against better teams though unfortunately.

As a fellow critic, I agree. I don’t remember him playing better and he is probably playing for his career now.

He's a smart enough player to find time and space.

He has played well when he has the ball and does find space and time a lot but a lot too deep to trouble teams like yesterday when they were comfortable without the ball and bank up across the field in front of us, and we will meet better sides defensively, it is interesting to note others praising their mid field players so much as they found it easy to play against us.
Their goal exposed the gaps we had across the field when we didn't have the ball and their front men had the pace to go past our defenders on more than one occasion.
If he is going to be our play maker he needs pushing forward and Bailey to be more restricted or Broadbent to give our back four protection when he isn't on the ball or we will get found out quickly with our lack of pace at the back.
