First time I’ve seen or noticed it today, long may it continue, gives the opposition something to think about

Agreed, I don’t recall us doing it before but it certainly should have given us the lead in the first half.
-
When you have players with "pace" it should always be done!
-
It's a shift from never putting one on halfway, to putting two there. And we should have been rewarded within the first ten mins as well. Great counter and it should have been a goal.
-
I noticed this and liked it

I’m sure when Grant arrived, the first time, he said in one of the meetings with the fans that he would be leaving one up at corners when asked about it. It happened for a couple of games but the quickly disappeared. I think this is the first time it’s happened since

And no wasting a player at corners.

Totally agree. Ive never understood why teams dont do it
-
Great change ... and chance to get goals if the Corner is caught by keeper or cleared ( or passed ) by " defender "
However , in a no s**t Sherlock statement we still need to take those chances

It was refreshing to see , I think statistically teams are less likely to concede if they have all players back defending corners. Personally I hate it , gives us no outlet when the balls cleared and it worked for us yesterday. Nice to see the manager looking to change things because I think we've been awful on corners and set pieces in both boxes this season but it was much improved yesterday.

I think we’ve been quite good defending them but awful attacking them. Notice the goal came from a short corner. People complain about them so it needs mentioning when we score from them. We take very few of them and it was noticeable we took a few yesterday. Certainly a positive.
It was an in swinging cross as well by the way. Something I’ve been going on about for months. They are more dangerous than out swingers.

The "pace" doesn't seem obvious to me, it is rare when I see Mols, Gibson or anybody else streaking away from defenders.
-
Finally… I absolutely hate the all men back tactic, it just come straight back - every time. I think it was SOD that began doing this first (for us)
We have players that are never going to defend and shouldn’t be asked too. Allow them to stand on either wing, and occupy 2-3 of the oppositions defenders.

Speaking of pace, Olusanya is allegedly rapid but there was a situation against Burton when he got into a one on one against their right back with plenty of space behind the defender.
He could have pushed the ball into the space and showed us how quick he is but instead chose to turn and play a safe sideways ball.

I did have a little chuckle when we scored from that corner. As soon as Gibson played it short there was a collective groan around me with one guy shouting at Gibson....until 5 seconds later.

I thought we’d scored a few this season from set pieces already

The maths says we are about 15th best at attacking set pieces and 5th best defending them. "f**k THE MATHS, WE'VE GOT EYES" is the cry from the masses.

That tactic didn’t last long, not once did we do it against Northampton, instead we brought everyone back
-
That’s because they were a big side so wanted more bodies in the box which stats apparently show it’s harder to score where as burton wasn’t the biggest side and unlike Northampton don’t put as many good crosses in the box, think I noticed they put sum quality crosses in the from open play

Yes they did, especially in first half and Jay dealt with them all, but according to some on here he's lost it ??

I think this is backward logic.
If the opposition is a big side, I would think it more advantageous to put two small quick players on halfway, thereby taking two of their (bigger than our) players from the penalty area.

They have more chance of scoring if they have 6v6 in the box than if they have 8v8.

I think we often spend too much time fearing our opponents instead of focusing on how we can make them fear us.

I think Jay has the capabilities to make a good central defender. He is a good header of the ball, just don't ask him to be a ball playing centre half. Let someone else play the football you just concentrate on stopping the opposition from scoring.
