Title: Billy
Post by: roversdude on November 10, 2025, 02:34:44 pm
just thinking - as the ref didn’t book Billy on Saturday is there any chance of retrospective action, personally I thought he was going to get a red for the first half incident

Likely to be no camera footage of the incident at this level.

To be fair he should have got red card, and thought he was going to get one when the ref called him over, I was astounded he didn’t even get a yellow card

Sure the ref went to his pocket as well.

I thought that as well, I even commented that he’s off here, stupidity

What did he do, I totally missed it - their guys were going mad at the ref, and I had no idea and still don't

Gave the defender a slap around the chops.

From my angle it looked like a slap on the shoulder. Didn't even look like a punch. One of those 'Gerrof me' moments as he turned round to the player holding him.

You would also have to question the refs incompetence, game manegment and possibly impartiality when a player like BS feels he's getting no protection from heavy handed defenders game after game.

Their defenders looked like they had a plan for him throughout, the ref allowed them to get on with it even though you could see BS questioning the ref about it, its happened throughout the season in other games. We all know this is the way football now is but does it have to be?

A canny ref would make it clear early on that they would not be standing for this kind of gamesmanship and have a handle on it.

One of the officials must have seen it to bring it to the that’s attention.  Strange one, they usually can’t wait to give our cards for stuff like that.

Think the 4th official brought it to the refs attention

Probably never saw it and acted on the Barnsley bench protesting, the ref obviously never saw it (hardly surprising) so just opted to have a word without any solid evidence

I thought at the time that the referee dealt leniently with Billy’s ‘ attack ‘ on  ‘ on Shepherd , but it may have had a bearing  on his spontaneous reaction  to the penalty incident Human beings eh !

Didn't see it very well but don't think their player made too much of it all or indeed their manager.

Pretty sure it was son of Kettle that flagged it up especially the way our management team rounded on him.
Wonder if Grant went back to see the ref after his media duties

Here's Barnsley fans' account of the incident.

"Sharp lashed out at Shep and hardly touched him. Shep went down holding his head like he'd been shot by a sniper. I really like Shep but he should have been booked for play acting. He got up as soon as he realised the ref wasn't going to give him a foul.
I dont want our players to **** about pretending to be hurt and cheating. We should be better than that."

Exactly as I saw it & felt at the time.

He ought to get down to the gym if a player half his size can ‘drop him’ with a push on the shoulder. Why’s he holding his head? Tooth ache?

Endemic cheating is rife throughout football and is getting worse.

Barnsley fans are okay aren't they. They're just a normal bunch, we'll behaved lots in town and at the ground. No dillusions of being massive like Wednesday.

So it sounds like Billy could have been sent off, by giving the officials a decision to make…regardless of how much contact there was.

Not ideal from our only real striker option and such an experienced player. Especially after last years red.

Let’s hope he doesn’t have another moment. As we really will be snookered until January.

Exactly Mush not a lot in the incident but the fact he raised his hand could have resulted in a red with a 3 game ban

That is Billy though, we all know his passion, how he builds himself up to win, especially in these types of games.
There will have been no one more desperate to win and do well than him. ( maybe PK?)

Did anybody else think that Kelly went down holding his head when the ball actually hit his hand? It looked clear to me and then there was a foul on us  before the ref blew and we ended up with a dropped ball.

Looked like it hit him clean on the jaw from where I was sat, not seen a reply though.

Agree but another thing the ref got wrong with the restart

why did he get it wrong if he deemed it not a foul before he blew

It did look like he gave the foul to us for a separate incident then went back to make sure PK got treatment. He then restarted play with a drop ball. All looked a bit confusing.

Saying that a free kick and a drop ball is the same thing to us on the half way, ends up being a short pass.
