Title: The Real History of Football
Post by: River Don on November 11, 2025, 06:49:29 pm
So, the established history of football is that public schools and universities codified the game and the FA took those rules. The first club was Notts County for some reason.

The truth is far more interesting.

The game was born and exploded in Sheffield. Within 20 years there were over 178 clubs in Sheffield alone. Half the football clubs on earth were based in Sheffield.

The series this bloke has put together is fascinating. It takes a bit of effort to follow as the episodes don't link well but search for them individually.

Thanks RD will have a look.

It's a bit clunky but interesting RD.

The Bessemer Converter glimpsed reminded me of a recent visit to the Tekniska museum in Stockholm where there is a more rudimentary model part of Sweden's development of steel.

You need to go into the channel and follow the series. It remains a bit clunky but it's very enlightening.
