Title: Why
Post by: Dagenham Rover on November 29, 2025, 11:24:32 pm
Are we being denied pretty much stitched on penalty's by numerous refs. Just a question

Simples.

They're all blind.

Yet the ref gave a free kick straight after Hanlan git bundled over, for a far less obvious foul.

I think they see pushing & pulling in the box as a normal now, and will probably only give pens for trips.

Im not slagging the ref for yesterday, I thought he made one of the best tackles in the game in the centre of the park to send us on an attack.

I know it was at the other end but even I thought it looked a pen on hanlon although not seen any replays of it

Only saw it live from the SS, looked very clumsy at best. The refs tend to take the proximity of the ball into account and it looked close enough for Hanlan to get it to me.

I think they had a similar situation where one of our players wrestled one of their men down in the box.

Easy to give those kind of  free kicks anywhere whete else on the pitch apart from the penalty area.  Refs dont like making the bigger calls nowadays.
The amount of silly, piss poor free kicks yesterday ruined a decent game. Even shoulder barges are being penalised

Not sure given view from SS, would be interesting to see a replay.
Thought the ref yesterday was terrible yesterday and he seemed to loose control when he booked our two players for just simple fouls.
It looked like Grant wasn’t very happy again and with Cliff was giving the officials some choice words again.
It didn’t help us much particularly starting the second half after Clifton and Broadbent were booked early in that first half

Don’t think Broadbent was booked was he if so it’s a ban for him

Maxwell, McGrath, O'Riordan, Clifton and Hanlan were the only players to get booked from our side.

Are we being denied pretty much stitched on penalty's by numerous refs. Just a question

17 penalties awarded to Rovers in the league in the last 5 seasons, breakdown below:
25/26 - 1
24/25 - 2
23/24 - 7
22/23 - 4
21/22 - 3

By comparison, there is a standout team who get more than their fair share of spot kicks...Swindon Town have been awarded THIRTY-SIX in that time frame!

DM4, if you have the numbers, could you please state the total penalties scored for Rovers and Swindon from those penalties please.
Just out of interest.
Thank you.

The ref would have got Man of the match award if we had scored from that incident

Rovers 14/17 (82% conversion rate) v Swindon 28/36 (77%); about what would be expected really.

The Rovers players that missed were Omar Bogle v Sheff Weds, George Miller v Crewe and Joe Ironside v Notts County (incidentally all away).

Unless I'm mistaken, the last player to miss a home league penalty was Tommy Rowe in September 2016.

Think Brentford have had 7 already this season in 13 games.

Thanks for that.
I always reckon that around one in four isn’t scored so Rovers are slightly better than that over 17 pens but over more pens awarded Swindon are (only 2% out) virtually bang on the one in four rate.

Remarkable that in 22/23, when we had our worst league finish in god knows how long, we got twice as many penalties as our title winning season. I hardly remember us getting in the opponents box that season!

Dead right, MM, and, amazingly, 2 of those rare moments of us getting into the opponents box happened at Sunderland where we won 2-1.

Crazy old game.
