Lawlor ill or injured?
-
1-0 Billy after 15 minutes, shot from distance outside the area
-
2-0 Ajayi, again outside the area, but deflected
-
Playing well to be fair, those goals will have done wonders for Sharp and Ajayis confidence
-
Great stuff, it will be nice if they push on rather than letting them in the game. It puts a mark down for Saturday.
-
A rather good start to the game. I was thinking this could be Ajayi's last chance to impress.
-
3-0 after 31 mins, Jack Senior with lovely assist by Ajayi

Are you watching on Rovers+ Dutch?
Is the performance as good as the scoreline suggests?

Yes we are all over them, they had 1 shot in the first few mins but haven’t been anywhere near our goal since.

Sky sports + here and yes very dominant so far
-
3 now, more please! I know it is weakened teams for both but it is still a proper morale booster for the squad.
-
It’s live on Sky Sports+
-
All out attacking here
-
This is complete domination. I can't remember Chessie having a single shit so far. Timmy should have brought his deck chair.
-
And some toilet roll if that’s on the cards

A single shit? They’ve been crapping themselves :)

Their team is one big shit
-
Funny that as we were shit in both games last season against them.
-
All 3 goals have been excellent

better!!!! Everyone is well up for it!!!! Ajayi is on fire...

Adjayi looks like Ronaldinho in the first half
-
How many goals have we scored in front of the South Stand this season? I can only think of 2.
-
This centre back pairing looks solid

You can’t take anything from tonight in respect to a league game
-

I was thinking about this the other day and it seems to be a theme, we score more in front of the away fans.
2 in the league I think? Exeter and Wimbledon
4 in the Vertu Trophy - 3 against Bradford and 1 against Everton
-
Of course you can.
Every time a combination play together they get to know each other better, regardless of the opposition
-
We have played some really good football going forward and are working hard off the ball, like the Boro game in the other cup the opposition look way off it, not because they are poor but because we are playing well, and all the players look like they are after the shirt which is what a manager wants.
-
Mols and Gibbo on. Fill your boots lads!
-
Of course you can.
Every time a combination play together they get to know each other better, regardless of the opposition
Not if the opposition is so poor they don’t put you under pressure and the first time they do, they score
-
3-1
-
4-1 Billy, great turn in the box
-
Getting Billy a couple of goals is invaluable for us, it takes the self imposed pressure off him. A relaxed and confident Billy is important for us.
-
Of course you can.

So you’d start with a different pairing against the same side that we are beating comfortably in 4 days time?
-
To be fair, chesterfield will probably put out different players on Saturday.

Absolutely because we won’t be facing the same side as we have tonight by any stretch of the imagination. There won’t be the acres of space our midfield and strikers have had and far more pressure on the defence.
-
Great to see Jacob Bryant get a run out
-
They will be two different teams playing at totally different intensity levels than this on Saturday.
Chesterfield are as poor as we are good tonight, it could’ve been a cricket score really.
-
5-1 Billy hattrick
Edit: BBC saying Molyneux - there was a deflection
-
BBC says Moly.?
-
Sky+ commentator saying Sharp
Edit: And Billy now claiming the match ball
-
Equals our biggest win in the competition
-
Finished 5-1, not bad for an evenings work.!
-
Billy’s first hatrick for us
-
Billy’s first hatrick for us
Looking at replay, the 5th goal, Billy's shot was deflected and difficult to see whether it was Luke or a defender who got the touch. Billy certainly claiming it, but I guess we will need confirmation from the club - I am sure the Red Baron will be on to it .
-

No, surely not.
And we obviously will play our starting XI after tonights performance.
Some posts…….you have to wonder why.
-
Excellent tonight, some great one touch football, not his greatest fan but Crew provided some really good forward passes to feet, we've missed that kind of midfielder. Took them apart & gave them a good hiding.
-
Really poor defending for their goal in our own box, amateurish and weak.
-
I’m definitely not a fan of Crew but I have to admit that he was good tonight.
-
Crew was excellent tonight
-
Ajayi had his best game was incisive and worked hard too .
-
A few people getting carried away after last night’s job. Chesterfield made 9 changes and we made 9. It showed only that Chesterfield’s squad is, perhaps, not as strong as ours.
Saturday brings a whole new and different problem and if anyone thinks different to that, then they’re deluded.
It was enjoyable to watch and the goals were great but we were given lots of space and time, which we never ever get against L1 sides. I’m sure Grant will ramp it up on Saturday and Chesterfield will want some sort of reaction so it’s probably added a bit more spice to it.
-
Although chesterfield are not a league 1 side..
But I get your point anyway.
-
I could be wrong, but that result is Rovers biggest ever win against Chesterfield.
-
It was a different game to the one that will face Rovers on Saturday, but why it was so useful is the confidence that a strong win gives, no matter who the opposition is. Feeding Billy properly and then himself believing in himself again after a sparse few weeks, that will get transferred on into other games.
-
I thought Crew did well, would be interested to see how many interceptions and tackles he won and came away with the ball.
I think he impressed Grant who was regularly clapping his passes.

Oh we played a league 2 sides reserves who’s keeper looked like he’d been on the bong, but some of our lads did play pretty well. The attacking movement was really good at times. The result means nothing in the grand scheme of things admittedly.

Good post, Alan, but a couple of pedantic points from me. We made 10 changes, and Chessie are a League 2 side.

Had a 4-0 win in 1927.

Didn’t Billy play in the Peterborough game, albeit as a second half sub?

Came on relatively early in second half - 62nd minute for Hanlan.
