….is that our first hat trick in this competition whichever name it has been called ???
-
I have a vague memory of David 'Bruno' Jones getting a hat-trick away at Rochdale (I think) that might have been in this cup.
-
Been given to moly by looks of it

Yes indeed it is - if the last goal is confirmed as Billys' - there was a deflection but not clear whether it was Molyneux or a defender who got a touch
Edit: Hopefully the club will confirm - I am sure the Red Baron will be involved

Correct it was a league match on his debut. Amazing day that was.
-
I remember thinking Bruno was going to kill the Rochdale keeper.

It was vaguer than I thought!

Billy walks off the pitch with the match ball securely tucked under his shirt.
Well earned Billy, even at this ‘level’.
-
When was the last time Billy scored for us from outside of the box.
Was it THAT ONE against Middlesbrough?
-
Billy Sharp is an absolute club legend.
The best Rovers striker since King Alick.
Long may King Billy reign.
-
Supposedly, also the oldest player to score an hat-trick in the competition, beating previous oldest McGoldrick,if third confirmed his.

Wasn't that Jones's first game for us. I was there then seem to recall it was.
Regards.

It came off the defenders leg and looped over everybody.

Steady on BB…
Peter Kitchen, Brian Dean, Paul Heffernan were all decent.

That’s how it looked to me, and Mols didn’t look as though he was interested in claiming it either.

I checked last night and that goal was inside the box.
Without any evidence or research I would assume he can't have many from outside the box.
Brilliant hattrick in any case.

Wow, it was inside the box was it?
In my memory it was about a twenty yarder.
My first thought when he scored last night was “that must be the first he has scored from outside the box for us” and then I recalled the Boro one (incorrectly as it happens).

The stats say the last goal was Moly.
-
Moly didn't look interested in claiming it, which says to me it's Billy's.
-
It looks to me like it deflects off the Chessie defender.
The shot was on target anyway so it is clearly a Sharp goal.

Agreed Albie.
I’ve watched it back several times and for me the ball hits the Chessie defender on the back on its way into the net but was going in anyway. That has to be Billy’s goal.

I notice some very active posters don’t appear to be posting anything on this thread!

What you expecting to read?
Bloody stupid ruling that's come into the game, if that's ruled an og or given to Moly it's bonkers Scoring is hard enough and there's attempts in other instances with VAR to rule out goals for the flimsiest of reasons.
A shot that takes a small deflection isn't and never has been an own goal.
And now it seems Billy has been awarded the third goal so my post is as relevant as a BillyStubbsTears prediction.
-
If it's now confirmed, then it's quite likely to reach the 300 mark this season.
It would be something worthy of a TIFO in the South Stand to celebrate Billy's incredible achievement plus a Legends banner on the back wall.

I’m delighted to see this has officially been confirmed as Billy’s hat-trick.

Epic. But not as epic as the mudslide at Wigan.
