Those are Grant’s words. I realise it is an act of faith from Terry and Gavin with regard to Grant's vision of the future but how intrinsic has gym work become, or is to become in the routine preparation of players these days?

I've seen the pictures posted on social media. It looks a huge improvement on the previous set-up.

The biggest improvement is the recovery facilities for the physio's to use as they see fit for injured players.
As far as using for fitness and strength they can now be done in house under supervision and the right balance between weights and suppleness exorcises can be overseen by in house trainers with the expertise to do so.
An over reliance on weights can be counter productive to the all round athleticism football players need to reach their maximum potential.

I do often wonder why all pro footballers aren't ripped like Cristiano Ronaldo. No excuse now we have the new facilities!

Pies and a pint don't help some Gaz.

Just think of how many top footballers in the 1960s, the era when we won the World Cup, were heavy smokers and drinkers.

The issue with that statement Steve is all players, or the vast majority were from every team, so it was an even field.
Modern players are way advanced of those times and it is survival of the fittest.

Certainly the case at this level. Mandeville such a good example. Technically superb but held himself back in his early career.

Most finished in their late twenties early thirties though.
Now most top players can finish about the same time and still be set for life, but now have the option of playing longer if not injured and still want to play.
If they went down the divisions like players before them used to most could play to their late thirties early forties if they wanted. If they were international class and premiership quality there is no reason not to be minted quite early in life.
