Do we ever practice corners?
We must be the absolute worst side at taking corners in the entire football league.
15 corners today. We didn't look remotely dangerous from a single one. At least 10 were carbon copies that failed to clear the first man.
Rinse and f**king repeat.

We're f*cking crap.

Second half we have three tall centre halves on the field, so it is placed towards the front post to a small player! Why do we have a goalkeeper as our set-piece coach? I would have thought an ex-midfielder or striker would be better suited, but maybe this is a matter of money.

EVERY side bar us has a method for making space to receive the ball from a throw in. We look like we've lived in Plato's Cave and never actually seen the concept of a throw in before.

We are not a well coached team. So many obvious details we are not good at.
McCanns historical success has come by getting a good group of players for the level, getting them to work hard off the ball and giving them freedom to create in the final third, getting the best out the individuals in attacking areas.
He’s not a coach that creates a team greater than the sum of its parts with coaching and structure. He’s a manager motivator type.
He will change the shape and tweak things, but it’s basic stuff. Bringing in Barry Richardson was a strange one for me. We had the opportunity to bring someone in that could perhaps take the coaching and tactical awareness to next level, but we brought in another clone of Cliff and Lee Glover.
At the end of the day recruitment is killing us. We don’t have a recruitment process that is structured so it can even be reviewed, assessed and improved. It’s just a load of guesswork laced in biases and we fall in to every trap going. That obviously aligns with contract renewals. Mistakes made with Westbrook, Close, Olowu, Sharp, not selling Jay… the list goes on.

I cannot understand why we ditched to short corner routine, it was so effective.
Also why are we persisting with these ridiculous diagonal long balls, which usually end up in another post code.

It’s not like we’ve had loads of mid week games stopping us practicing. No excuse for that many to be that bad. And we had lots of different takers.
Seems mad when it’s the latest in thing in football to be very strong on set plays. We basically won’t score unless it’s great football we can’t create basic chances and other teams don’t do stupid stuff like us!

There was loads of time today - when the 6 yard box was crammed and young Sterry was stood just outside the 18 yard box on his tod..

Too many outswingers which aren't very productive.

There was one change to our attacking set piece play in the game. We dropped having two players stood waiting to take the kick. The way we used to execute the strategy - which was supposed to bring uncertainty to the defending team - was the biggest waste of a man imaginable because anybody who's watched us play knew who would be taking the kick.

The goal difference in the league table says a lot.

Molyneux is easily one of our best, most consistent performers but for goodness sake, he should be nowhere near any of our dead ball deliveries ever again. It’s not his strength let’s say.

No side has conceded more goals at home in the league than we have this season. We are relatively - relatively - tight away from home. There are five sides who have conceded more than us away, all of them way above us in the table.

The corner thing was my biggest frustration yesterday. It seemed the tactic was to aim for Hanlan to flick on. You would think that after six or seven not getting close, they might try something else, but no. I have always admired McCann’s belief in his his own system/tactics, but it is becoming increasingly frustrating.
We need to stick with him, but he has got one hell of a task ahead of him.

Most of are players are in the 6 yard box at corners Why are no players coming from the deep to attack the ball ,players coming from the deep would also drag a few defenders around even with zonal marking.

Said it a million times. We’d improve instantly if every corner we took was an inswinger, I’m certain of it.

Contract renewals are not as simple as you seem to think. We offered a better deal to Olowu but he simply didn't want to stay at DRFC. It was obvious during his interviews last season that he wasn't prepared to commit himself to us which is a shame because he is the one we miss the most.

Contract renewals are not as simple as you seem to think. We offered a better deal to Olowu but he simply didn't want to stay at DRFC. It was obvious during his interviews last season that he wasn't prepared to commit himself to us which is a shame because he is the one we miss the most.
We offered him a contract far too late. McCann clearly didn’t rate him at the start of last season hence not offering a contract earlier. This was a very costly mistake.

It was Gaz, but even if we had there were no guarantees they Olowu would have signed it.
Not accepting the 500k for McGrath was far bigger mistake.

I think we spoke about the coaching set up a while ago and I said that his coaching staff should be improved as well as the playing staff. Like you say, the mad Baz addition was a strange one and could it be part of the current problem?

In addition to the evident lack of corner routines and not involving Sterry in free kicks in shooting range, it also Annoys me when we don't put balls into the area from free kicks in the attacking half. We often just resume open play by passing it sideways, when within two or three passes we're defending again and letting the opposition off the hook.
Other teams don't seem to miss the opportunity to load the box from anywhere within reach of a free kick or long throw.

We simply do not have players with the ability to play the ball out from the back. How many times have we conceded a goal from trying to play football in or around the area.

I see your point but maybe it should be both for both perspectives?
To be brutally frank, whether Letheran was a goalkeeper or not, is irrelevant because he is clearly incompetent. In his primary speciality he can hardly be classed as successful either: witness TLT, Jones… Does this specialised coaching extend to defending corners because we’re not very good at that either!
