Title: Optimism
Post by: edlored on December 26, 2025, 08:13:05 pm
For all those people who are upbeat about our chances of stopping up I really admire you all, but let's be realistic we were  dog s...t against a team which were dog s..t we have players who cannot beat an opposing player and let in goals, if we do stay up we can't keep relying on the January window.

It’s the meet the club meetings I find a bit daft . The club are there to sell the clubs prospects and the manager will only talk about its plans and prospects as instructed , it certainly can’t tell you that its budget is shrinking or not increased as other priorities like a new trading gym or new P.A system  that keep the club afloat all come before even the players budget . L1 is a good place to be when things were obviously going to be mixed bag this season . You can only drop down to L2 and still be safe in the EFL .

No offence In the Box  you havent a ruddy clue the PA was not fit for purpose as simple as to be honest it wasn't fit for purpose when it was installed when the stadium was being built it was one of the cutbacks from the council . Training  facility's do you fancy banging your head everytime you jumped  indoors. I believe that was nowt to do with the playing budget and payed for by Terry. Its about time you stopped criticising every single thing that happens.   Supporting Donny has been and always will be a rollercoaster

my point was it’s about the club’s priorities and they put a lot of money into things that are not player related . After 56 years of support I’m still watching a third division club the same as when I first started to watch . Build a stadium that still attracts less inside than 50 years ago . Supporting Rovers isn’t a rollercoaster.. it’s a motorway with the odd roundabout but no turn offs just bumps in the road . This season is no different just the odd different faces watching .

Average attendance in 1974, 2,395 Attendance 2024, 7,090 (the last full season), that is a strange "less inside than 50 years ago". Either you have no idea about what it was like that long ago, or you have forgotten. There have been significant changes at Doncaster Rovers over the past 20 years or so, quite right there have been "bumps in the road" but it in the last 20 years it is the only time in my 68 years that I have known Championship football at Rovers, I have seen more promotions and relegations in that time then in the previous 40 odd years so yes I would call it rollercoaster, involving 4 different divisions! Nothing here is "the same", maybe you're just tired of being a supporter.

So where is the improvements after 50 years . We’re still a 3rd division club looking at possibly going back to the 4th . When we got relegated from the championship it was with a £14m wage bill the club couldn’t  afford , but we saw 5-7 years of successes leading upto and including the odd trophy not seen prior .
We are still lower league club but with a rich owner that’s  bless him , and who should be knighted for his patriotism of the club.

The new PA system was the only good signing in the summer.
