Signed on loan from Everton for rest of season
-
I think it will be easier for most of us if we just call him Frankie
COYR
-
That header he scored against us was a beauty
-
Scored past us for Lincoln a few weeks back. His only goal of a stop-start spell at Lincoln. Know nowt about him other than that.
-
Looked good against us which doesn't say I lot I know. Bit surprised Lincoln let him go.

Everton may have recalled him and Lincoln had no say
-
Sounds a good start, I remember him for Lincoln and he looked good. One of my Lincoln supporting mates can’t understand why he didn’t stay and is, to say the least, disappointed, he thought he’d go to a championship side when he left!
-
He looked very good against us!
-
Is he cup tied
-
Contract at Everton ends this summer
-
Is he cup tied
yes in both cups
-
Is he cup tied
Not sure but that's the least of our worries he can play in the league.
-
He’s also the one who missed the open goal against us. But looks a decent prospect and here’s hoping he can have the same impact street had

A bit about him here from a Lincoln Fan

That was the worst miss I've ever seen in pro football. It was an empty net with no-one near him.
Good header he scored though.
-
Conga in the South anyone?
Do-do-do Francis Ok or on kwo
-
Probably knew he was coming to us and wanted to prove to Grant he’s a Viking and will never be an Imp.
It was a bad miss though, thank god. Can you imagine the melt down on here if that was Hanlan.
Great signing going by what little I’ve seen.

The bewildering thought process of football fans. Can’t get a game for Lincoln gut thought he’d go to a championship team!
-
Sounds like a lack of starts as he played 20 times for Lincoln but only started 3. Sounds up for it, welcome to Donny & bring your best scoring boots! :rtid:
-
According to Stacey's article he might do okay at a bottom of league 1 club.

Exactly my thought when he sad it! They’re doing well this season but a good few are going all billy big b*ll*x already and seem to think automatics is a given!

Yo Frankie !!

Can see it now…
Fans belting out “Do-do-do, Francis Oko-ron-kwo” whilst forming a big conga in the stands at Peterborough away. Not sure if it’ll be the goal that keeps us up, or the one to get us in the play-offs :scarf:

I'm not expecting much from him, I hope to be proved wrong on it for sure! I've asked someone very much up to date with things at Everton (at all levels) and he's not exactly told me to expect much. I really hope the lad goes onto great things with us.
-
I liked the look of him in the game at Sincil Bank. I think that might be an astute signing.
-
Rob Street, was a bit of a dead loss at Lincoln, till he came here. Don't underestimate his abilities until you see him over 5-6 games. Fingers crossed he can make a difference.

Are you sure it was the same player? He's played 305 mins for Lincoln in League One... Not really enough to suggest he's better than League One.
-
Will he be our annual saviour signing from Lincoln?
2023-24 Adelakun
2024-25 Street
2025-26 Okoronkwo?
-
I remember some of you guys being underwhelmed at the signing of Rob Street.
Best to wait and see how he performs in the red and white hoops!!
-
When did we last sign a youngster who has already been the subject of £ 1,000,000 transfer ( according to Wiki) ?
-
Sounds an astute loan, if i remember rightly he was an handful when we played Lincoln, big and strong player who can plough that loan striker role and looked to have some pace.
Could we see a forward line of Frankie up top with Hacks left and Hanlan right with Mols playing the no10 role, Now that would be interesting to see.

That should be enough extra ones to keep us up.
-
Good in the air, mobile and technically good enough to link play etc.
Ticks the McCann centre forward boxes.
His ability to play wide could allow quite a fluid front 3 to give space for Molyneux and Adelakun to get in to more goal scoring positions.
Sounds fun!
-
He’s from Lincoln and recently that’s a good thing for us!
Do we know what his profile is other than basic stats? Not seen him play but it’s clear we need a line leader who is a bit better with his back to goal with Hanlan been more of a on the shoulder striker
-
I was going to do a post about who was gonna be our annual Lincoln saviour. But didn’t cause I thought it would be a bit disrespectful to our Recruitment team and it must be more complicated than that.

Grant says he gives us the option to go “in to him” as well as run in behind.
His stats show he is better at winning headers than Hanlan too which was needed.
Sounds like a well rounded player just needs to add more goals to his game which I’d back him to do here.

Funny how we both agree about that -- but I think Scawsby also needs to go to specsavers as he never saw the thread I "dedicated" to the miss - at least he can head a ball even if his geographical knowledge is worse than Akinfenwa's

I really rate Hanlon as a winger hope Grant looks at that option
-
So when does the main striker sign? You know, the one who is actually going to score the goals to keep us up.

Why does it have to be one player scoring all the goals?

Yep, just been out playing skittles with a few of them and they can’t believe he’s “Dropped to a lower club”. They rate him and thought he’d go up rather than “Down”. I told you, they’re all billy big b*ll*x about being already a championship club in waiting!! I’d really love to see them start dropping like a stone whilst we, as a “lower” club climb the table.

I didn't notice the thread at first. It's probably your new avatar that's putting me off.
-
I hate to say this because I love him and he's done his best this year, but this should be the end of Sharp, even as an impact player. He's a backup L2 level striker at best and why we ever thought having him 1st choice in this league is completely baffling. We can't moan at being second bottom making decisions like that.

Take your point SS but has been equalled many times . I'll offer Ronnie Rosenthal for Liverpool v Villa I think it was

I am sure he will recognise at least one player when he arrives, when he played for Everton u21s against us a couple of years ago, Bobby was all over him like a rash and left a few calling cards on him before he was subbed by Everton in the second half.
He was told to man mark him and when he went wide followed him, to be fair it was a right tussle with two athletes who were quick,
Bobby went on a great run that game, picking up the ball in our penalty area from a corner and ran the full length of the pitch with all the Everton players chasing and set Marsh up with a great ball to the edge of the box but he shot straight at the keeper, I think it was one of the games Bobby got MOM.
He was looked on as one of the next big things at the time.

Sigh :(.
Another unproven kid on loan, not the proven goalscorer we need.
MASSIVE gamble, especially given we are staring relegation in the face.

Here come the Wikipedia scouts. Who would you have signed who would have fit in to this team and been good value for money?

Sigh :(.

MASSIVE gamble, especially given we are staring relegation in the face.
We have a proven goal scorer in the team, in fact the best goal scorer the EFL has ever seen. Unfortunately, I think we all agree Billy is not the answer to our current situation. So, other than splashing out millions we can’t afford, what else can we do but take a gamble?
Let’s face it, in the past 2 seasons who had rob street down as a “proven goal scorer”, or Adelakun as a game changer? Certainly not me, but GM found them, slotted them into the team and, arguably, they became better players and had the spell of their lives. All we can do is trust in GM to find the right players, play them in the right positions and develop them into what we need. Everything crossed that his proven record in the second half of the season continues! :boxing: :boxing:
-
I’m not convinced on the Adelakun signing for a few reasons but I think this Okoronkwo might actually do well. What i’ve seen (admittedly only highlights) and what i’ve read about him I think style wise he fits what we need.
I wouldn’t read too much into his bare stats at Lincoln, they’ve got a forward line that works well for them so that’s the reason for his lack of game time rather than being shite. He’ll start every game here. Excited to see him play.
-
Out of contract in the summer with Everton. Now if he proves to be very useful is this the beginning of a beautiful friendship for next season?
-
What confuses the hell out of me is how Grant can find the right players in January but not in summer!

Rob street has only scored 3 for Lincoln all season so stats don’t always tell the whole story

To get a proven goal scorer at this level you be talking £800,000 and wages. You wouldn’t be able to loan such a player.
In our position would such a player want to come.
We have taken a chance on Okoronkwo who has played in league 2 and league1 okay not full games he may score with Adelakun more goals to improve our position we will have to see.
-

No Lincoln ‘striker’ has scored more than 4, yet they sit in an automatic promotion spot.
Yet 3 out of the division’s top 5 scoring strikers play for teams 16th and below.
People pay too much attention to the goalscorer charts and wanting a “proven goalscorer”.

Lincoln have 9 attacking forwards as of now couple are injured. Majority if not all have scored this season. They have attacking fullbacks they have scored this season. Goals have been shared out and they are in the top two.
Our goals have not been shared out in the league we have scored 1 goal a game on average. That is the difference and we have conceded goals as well

The real ambition being shown here

What confuses the hell out of me is how Grant can find the right players in January but not in summer!
He probably wanted Okoronkwo in the summer put Everton and the player chose Lincoln and it might have been due to the cost of the loan fee. He’s realised the competition for places at Lincoln where is was 1 of 10 attacking players limited his game time so he has come to us. That might be the story with others we don’t know.
-

Hi Selby how is Bobby when will he be ready to resume playing. I would like to see Grant give a chance. We know that our centre halves are struggling at League 1 even Pearson who has the experience. It would be good to see if Bobby could step up to this level.

It seems with nearly every McCann signing there has to be an Irish connection somewhere (and preferably Ulster), and then I saw a poster referred to him as 'Orinoco'
Must be what GM thought he was called
'Orinoco Flow' was a big hit for Enya - she is from County Donegal which is in Ulster (but confusingly not in Northern Ireland) :silly:
-
The Southampton game should be an interesting one with all 3 new players given a chance to show what they can do.
The new rules say they can play for more than one club in a competition.
As I have said before, decide on Saturday rather than just speculate.

If you go to Belfast and go down Sandy Row there’s a mural painting of Grant McCann on the end of a row of houses. It’s close by the Glasgow Rangers Supporters Bar which in turn is nearly opposite the block of flats that Alex Higgins passed away in.

Superb city Belfast.

Just asked my brother (season ticket holder at the Limps) about Frankie and he wrote,

Yeboah, Ajayi and Ennis. I think FO has an ok profile for a loanee but there is a risk involved in signings of this type. He needs to improve on what he showed at Salford to make a tangible impact. That’s very possible but no certainty. We are 6 points from safety and odds on to go down. We need to balance inexperience with proven.

Odds on? Really? It's only half way through the season, too much water to go under the bridge to be making anyone odds on at this point.
-
Currently at evens with SkyBet to be relegated. 4th favourites.

Currently at evens with SkyBet to be relegated. 4th favourites.
Even money to go down then!
I make us 10/11 (52.5%). That’s odds on.
-
Current results make us relegation material. Other teams around us will also be looking to strengthen to try to get out of trouble.
We need to recruit better or more appropriately to improve our results more.
-
What odds for a top half finish??
-
500/1 top two finish. 100/1 top six. Just had 20 quid on top 6. Got to be worth a risk surely ?
-
Here we go again, people predicting how things will go or how good we will be before the new players have even kicked a ball for us. We’ve been here for the last 2 seasons and we have turned it around. I’m as unhappy as the next that we keep doing this but I believe we can start to convert chances enough to get us out of the relegation places.

Footballs all about having opinions isn’t it? I’ve not put an opinion across. Bookmakers odds are as close as you can get for gauging the chance of things happening in the future. They are pretty efficient.
What happened at the back end of the last two seasons has very little relevance to wash happens from here on in.
Improve efficiency in both boxes between now and May and we will stay up. If we don’t, we won’t.

Not every signing is going to come off, but we’ve proven in the past that being unproven means very little if you get the right player in

They are as close to a true reflection of the actual probability of a given outcome as you can get with the information available at the time. I think a 50/50 chance of staying up with 22 games to go is about fair.

I think even the most cynical fan can see that we do have the possibility to get ourselves into a position of safety.
We have created over the season so far enough chances to have had us sitting very handily, our execution hasn't been the best and we have paid for this.
With the same application and some improved finishing we should be able to climb up this league.
If the chances had been converted think of the positions we would have been in, would we have conceded so many because of this?
I'm sure one correlate's along with the other!

And if it didn’t keep you up you’ve spent 800k plus wages on a 4 year deal for someone crippling what you can do in the next windows and even putting the future of the club at stake. Unless we get a new benefactor in this club or make a large sale the chances of us spending those sums on 1 player are pretty much zero

We need 10 wins in the second half to stay up, which games will we get them in is the question!
-
Obviously we don't need 10 wins  that means we would need 53 points
A while ago i did the analysis and came up with 48 points
I was going to start a thread about all the relative "easy" matches we have up to Huddersfield

It’s early to be talking about this stuff but I think the line for the drop will be higher than usual this season. I think you will need more than 48.

I was going to start a thread about all the relative "easy" matches we have up to Huddersfield
It’s early to be talking about this stuff but I think the line for the drop will be higher than usual this season. I think you will need more than 48.
Far too early.

Well that's one in the pot next please
and here are the matches I was on about

I thought Sharp did more in the shorter time he was on the pitch. I hope Okoronkwo improves.
-
It looks he may have a problem with his hamstring and Grant says he will have a scan to check it
-
Gonna stick my neck out and say he's not very good. Seen him several times and still to see what he's going to offer. Not writing him off but I'd be surprised if he gets five goals before the end of the season.
-
One thing I will say is that we need to stop seeing a tall lad upfront and just lump it up like we did yesterday. Think we worked the ball round once in first round and old nearly scored.
He can work with ball at his feet and playing on the defenders shoulder, same thing happened with street first couple of games until we worked out what we needed to do so we got the best out of him.
If Okoronkwo ends up being out decent chunk with the hamstring I feel like McCann will get a similar style of striker in so be same thought process
Before anyone says yeah we scored from that tactic but that was the 97th minute and needed to just get it in the box which is different.
-
He looks a perfect physical specimen to be a great footballer but hasn't shown yet he's able to make the most of his attributes.

Tend to agree. Neither he or Hanlan are natural hold up men, so they're not gone to prosper with aerial balls. They need the ball to feet or threaded into the channels.
We don't want to see centre forwards grappling with centre half's, we want to see them pulling away from them and finding space. Drag the centre half's where they don't want to go.
Earlier in the season Hanlan was written off as useless but more recently, he's contributing, even if he's not scored as many as we would like.
Obviously we don't know the extent of his injury but if he scores 5 goals in the remainder of the season and contributes to our overall game, then that will be a decent return.

I have very limited expectations of what Frankie will bring to the club. Hopefully I'm wrong.
-
Of all the players we have signed this window he has the hardest job to show exactly what he can do
Our front men experienced have struggled to shine all season, mainly because of the lone game up front we ask them to play, and in a lot of games this season a lack of space to work in as the opposition play narrow because our main threat and tactic has been out wide, and they defend wide with midfield players and their own wide men dropping back.
We get very few chances central except in the more open cup competitions.
In league games our strikers have in most games little room to work in and have defenders on them when they collect the ball. Just think of how many through balls into that area from defence are intercepted.

Some extraordinary comments on here. The lad has played one game against a Championship defence just a few days after joining the squad, 9 minutes against Fleetwood and then went off injured after 50 minutes yesterday. Yet that’s enough for quite a worrying number to write him off already. Genuinely astounding.

Pulled hamstring. How longs is that to heal

I would hope the club would have watched him half a dozen times before we signed him.

Sigh :(.
Another unproven kid on loan, not the proven goalscorer we need.
MASSIVE gamble, especially given we are staring relegation in the face.
How proven was
Street,
Craig,
Kane,
I see the point im making has gone over your head
Not really.
You haven’t got a point
I have, but your either too blinkered or haven't got the intelligence to see it.
So given you think your intelligence is superior where do you think Doncaster Rovers will find a player or a club stupid enough to let a “proven goalscorer” go to join another club, either on loan or permanent, who clearly have a limited budget? Who would be your shout?
You just love spouting negativity. Give it a rest please.

Depends on the severity of tear. Anything from 3 weeks usually up to 12 if it’s more serious. Would imagine it’s at the lower end of the scale given he played most of the 50 minutes with it. Should probably have come off earlier to minimize damage

Well, theres a thing called Google. There you can search for all sorts of things, like proven goalscorers.
You can then proceed from there.

Last seasons L1 top scorers:
Charlie Kelman- transferred to Charlton for £3.5m
Richard Kone - transferred to QPR for £2m
Jay Stansfield - cost B’ham £15m
You’re seriously expecting us to be signing these people?

So where then?
If a player is in the Championship after having a good L1 record their wages will be double what any of our current squad is on.

The concept of Grant McCann sitting at a laptop Googling "proven goalscorers" to decide who we should sign. Funny.

Well, its probably a huge improvement on the current recruitment strategy
