Title: Triple substitution…
Post by: karldew on January 27, 2026, 10:40:07 pm
Lined up to come on tonight around the 43rd minute! We then get a penalty and he makes 4 at HT.

Wellens head well and truly blown

Fair play to him. On his analysis, he said we were the better team. Mirror image to the home game

Wonder if he wanted to scapegoat the 3 he was going to take off

Let's face it , hsd Woods not given us the Pen it would likely as not finished 1 0 at HTand he could then just replaced the 3 at HT in private

Just watched his post match interview. He wanted to make the subs after 25 minutes! He doesn’t seem happy and wants players through the door.

The subs were lined up & ready to go on before the pen. It was getting it that stopped them coming on then and instead him making the changes at half-time.

I seem to remember Snod doing a mass half time substitution in the opening game of the season at home to Forest Green. Remember the game because it was the first time in years that the Open terrace at the Airport end had been opened for Rovers fans instead of away supporters. As I recall we struggled first half but Duerden and Newell went to town in the second half. The only decent game Newell ever had for us. Anyway, point is, Snod was hailed as a tactical genius for his early mass subs.

Wellens wants a new Goalie, and right back and by the sounds of his moaning most other positions need better players too, didn’t he bleat in a similar when he was our manager.

Whatever the circumstances, he signed Tiago Cukur, Rodrigo Vilca and Joe Dodoo.

Signed Bachmann, very good keeper.

Richie Wellens will destroy that young goalkeeper with his outburst, a good manager keeps that sort of things in house, not in the public domain. You do not slag off individual players/workers to all and sundry, doesn’t matter what job you do.

Talking of substitutions I have not read every word that might have been written on the Orient game, but it could be a significant and sensible policy change that McCann did not make his habitual substitutions around the 60/65 minute mark last night. Instead he delayed them and the players who were combining well to maintain the lead and keep the Orient defenders occupied were kept out there. The only early substitution was replacing Okoronkwo with an alternative threat down the middle in the shape Billy Sharp. The rest of the subs were late enough to be fairly sure that Orient didn’t have the time for a come back considering how ineffectual they seemed to be.

Pragmatism rather than habit is surely the key to good substitutions.

He did this to Hiwula.
Looked decent before he tore him apart in the DFP.

Think Grant has learned from Saturday that change for the sake of change is not always needed.

He said in his interview after the game that he was upset on Sunday and watched the game back to see what could be done better by the players and him and his staff, I’m taking that to mean he is willing to question his actions and would he do the same again.

Clearly not as Tuesday night after being 3-0 up was as polar opposite of Saturday, hope the team as a whole can keep finding this extra 1/2 percent each match to improve on.

Grant took Frankie off at just the right moment he was starting to struggle with fitness, Bradford will be another step up in test but one we can hopefully step up to the mark.

Win at Bradford and we are only 13 points behind them. Wonder what Grant will say at meet the owners about catching them.

"RIP and PIP" (Reprimand in Private, Praise in Public) is a restorative behaviour management strategy designed to maintain student dignity while encouraging positive conduct. It involves addressing negative behaviour quietly to avoid public humiliation, and highlighting positive actions to the class to reinforce good habits and boost self-esteem.

Was it Darren Ferguson who ripped into Ross Etheridge and destroyed him.
I remember Andy Butler giving RE a serious bollocking on the pitch in front of the south stand after another error which cost us a goal.
I don’t think he played for us again after that.

It was Ferguson. He did play again but only another 4 or so games as I recall. Perhaps he was never the required standard (though Ferguson clearly thought he was having just signed him) but he was a wreck after that and disappeared off into lower league football. Much lower leagues.
