Title: Our subs tonight
Post by: Filo on March 10, 2026, 10:05:01 pm
For once improved us no end, we were all over them from that point on and should have won the game

Yep, the game was crying out for a controller like Close.

We are much better when we don't overreact with multiple substitutions just after a goal.

Wonder what Adelakun has done to be binned off so soon?

He was the bench so he can't have done that much. Grant played Middleton tonight because he has a good left cross. Yet he couldn't hit a barn door when it comes to scoring.

I thought Haks for Middleton would have happened at some point, is he fully fit/interested?

“Interested”? He can’t sub himself on!

But yes, so did I. Would have been more clinical with that chance and the through ball Lee put Middleton through for.

Never mind Middleton - what did Molyneux do over the 94 minutes? He was lucky to still be on the pitch!

In that first half their number 18 and 6 were strutting round with cigars it was so frustrating. They were just picking up space under no pressure at all which we allowed Norwood to do this time last week. Was like watching Byrne, Pearson, Bailey and Gotts play with each other for the first time. We then concede from that same area of the pitch. I’m still questioning why Byrne hasn’t thrown himself at the shot. Frustrating.

Was shaking his head looking annoyed as he was moved to right wing back.

Looked to me that Sterry lost his man for their goal

Ha ha, I meant when he has played, of late. Looked great when he first came back but faded quickly imo.

I thought Sterry was awful.

RB definitely an area to improve in the summer if we stay up.

Really disappointed for Sterry, I thought he was the best he’d been up to his fractured eye socket injury. It has had a massive affect on his confidence, got to hope he can get past it and back to his best.

Didn't you know that Molyneux is a protected species.

Mols had a responsibility last night to defend a lot more down the right side in the absence of sterry.
You have to appreciate the amount of work he does get through, it not just about him not scoring.

I agree he was poor again (doesn’t seem to be is normal self at present) just wonder if the knocks he has taken this season are still having some effect.

Half arsed attempt to close the goal down

It’s to a lesser extent with Sterry as I do like him and he does have quality, but he’s part of a fairly long list of players who are fine in L2 but just not good enough for L1. We need to be more ruthless and realise we’ve gone up a level so have to improve on players who were good in the league below but not so much now.

See McGrath, Broadbent, Sharp, Maxwell, Clifton.

McGrath and Sharp particularly have played far more football than they should have this season.

Is Haks fasting for Ramadan perhaps?
Which would explain him not being totally match-ready?

I thought Clifton made us better (rather than Close), he's a blunt tool but it's effective - he presses and harries and forces mistakes. The subs did make us better, but not sure why we didn't start with Clifton and the same set-up from Plymouth which seemed to work ok and meant we didn't get rolled over down the middle.

Not sure why Haks didn't come on, game was screaming for some creativity - dragging Lee and leaving a Middleton on - who is absolutely woeful if asked to play coming inside - was criminal, and why we got 1 point instead of 3. Hanlan was great, but needs someone playing close to him. Senior also very decent plus centre half pairing more solid.

Make or break time now. The line-up lottery needs to stop and we need a big win on Saturday.

I refer you to my post made before he signed.

Last two paragraphs if you're someone who can't deal with the words in the rest of the posting.

Wonder why he didn't want to join Grant at the end of the 23/24season? Perhaps he expected more money from a league 1 club. He wouldn't be the only footballer where filthy lucre becomes the only priority.
Interestingly no league 1 club offered him enough and had to slum it at Salford.

He's someone who through his career has settled in comfort and only thrived (admittedly only in league 2 in recent seasons) when lack of a settled future has driven him.

A short till end of season contract is what he should have been told was all there was.

Oh and I was one of the few on here praising Grant,  when Adelakun wouldn't sign after the play off defeat, for even refusing to say his name.

You seem quite agitated.

Perhaps you need to calm down and reconsider your response.

I’ve just read your contributions on the other thread so now I get it.

It seems to me that you’re a very sad person.

You appear to hold very negative and discriminatory views about people who don’t align with your very narrow beliefs.

Shame on you.

I don’t know whether Haks has had to limit his appearances in the team due to his possible fasting during Ramadan, but if so, then I would fully respect that.

If you don’t, that says a lot about you.

Braod minded actually.  Very.

As any our species the product of the proces of Darwinian Evolution should be.

Though if you want to advertise your deep knowledge you could start a thread on off topic,  maybe title it the irrational beliefs and practice of a mammal evolved through the process of Natural Selection?

Broad minded? You? You're one of the most narrow minded people I've ever come across.

Anyway, just to remind you, this is a football forum, so take your bigoted twaddle somewhere else.
