After a real fighting point at Bolton we go to our old adversaries Barnsley who really will be looking at the season as a bit underwhelming and should be at least challenging strongly for a play off place once again with the squad they have got.
In Kelly, McGoldrick, and Cleary they have on their day some of the best players in the division, and a good core of other players who have not shown the consistency required to challenge as yet this season, which with the squad is something of a failure.
We will be looking to carry on our upturn in results based on a solid defence in recent games tonight's game our best defensive display of the season especially in the members of the back line who to a man were at the top of their game, especially in our own area where we gave nothing away, and with everyone working hard off the ball Bolton found it hard to get momentum and behind our defence.
Repeat that performance and we the supporters could be in for a good game to watch, and send a message our that we deserve to be in division 1, and are no longer just here to make the numbers up and whipping boys as we were beginning to look like around Christmas time.
With local bragging rights at stake this hopefully could be a very good game to watch, both sides containing players who on their day can be exciting and are capable of turning a game in an instant.
A lot on the game, especially for us if we are to look to really pull away from the relegation positions, and the set of players who are the most focussed and calm playing the game and not the occasion could carry the day, lots to talk about, lots to look forward to and discuss, please have your say.
-
They have lost only once at home this year, a run of 9 matches. Interestingly though they have conceded in every single one of those games. They last kept a clean sheet at home way back on 22 November. You would think we have a chance of at least getting a goal.
-
I have seen loads of games over the years between these two sides and have always thought of them as the one true local Derby we play in.
There has always been very little between the teams even when one side has been in a much stronger position in the league, the games have mostly been very tight affairs with both sets of supporters keen to get one over the other.
Despite playing many times the win difference is negligible reflecting the challenge both sides show to each other and the competitiveness of the games, and the usual reaction of the crowds to any contentious decision and tackle is usually more animated than in other games against other sides as the Doolan tackle in a game so long ago and is still a subject of disgust with the Barnsley fans shows, and the Coppinger fouls still a subject of discussion with some of our supporters.
It can be the best game of the season for a number of reasons, Let's hope this game lives up to it.
-
A match at Barnsley I always remember was the game in 2013 when John Ryan resigned after the game following the Sequentia Capital malarky... from memory, I think that was a 0:0 affair...
-
Some interesting games for teams below us on Saturday.
Cardiff v Blackpool
Lincoln v Rotherham
Wigan v Exeter
Burton v Bradford
-
It's the 4-0 win at Belle Vue that I always remember - it was the first meeting after the Doolan 'tackle' I think so there was a bit of bad blood with their bench and fans winding McPhail up (Doolan's gonna get you) and Doolan ended up scoring and did a knee slide in front of their bench. The good old days!! We seemed to regularly come out on top around that time, not quite so much recently!
-
We're tackling the Dingles when they are at a lull in their form, with a better defensive show we can hopefully produce the goods up front to get a 2-0 win.
-
Is Tyke still around not seen any posts for a while ?

Game that sticks in my memory was the 4-1 defeat there when the erm machine got sent off. Cruising 1-0 at HT, they go down to 10 & then Cambell-Ryce had 40 minutes I bet he still remembers well now.

I was at that game with my 6 fingered Barnsley mate. Was in the home end and living it up... even more so when DM got sent off and then the sh*t hit the fan - I got some right ribbing...

Not been active on here for well over a year. I hope he’s well.
-
Barnsley are wobbling at the moment, got a good chance for us to go there and beat them and bring home 3 points.
-
Connell and Yoganathan are also good players in midfield.
Cleary was superb in the reverse fixture but then again Grant decided to put Grehan at RB in one of the biggest mismatches we’ve seen this year. Him v Sterry should be a fun battle.
They are one of the best attacks and worst defences in the league. I fancy us here for a 2-3 away win.
-
Sterry has a lot on his plate with Cleary if he is on it, he ran the Liverpool defence ragged in a cup match televised.
-
Clearly they're better going forward than defensively. Mcgoldrick is obviously a big player for them. I really hope Hanlan is fit as his pace will cause problems. I'd then like to see Adelakun go wide left as Mols just plays much better when we have that shape.
-
Kelly is a threat also with his driving runs. Surprised they are not higher in the league with the players they have.
-
They will be higher if they win their games in hand.
-
Kelly has been a star for them this season.
-
Sharp out injured but Clark and Hanlan are fit for the game tomorrow according to Grant.

Not a surprise Mols is creeking a bit. Played a lot of minutes this season.
-
McCann has said he’s not 100%. Rest him. We can get a point here without him and Port Vale Tuesday is a huge chance at 3 points.
-
The Mols thing might be a smoke and mirrors plot too.
-
McCann never likes to give any injury news away but Mols looked spent against Luton and he still played x2 90 mins Saturday / Tuesday after that.
Haks often played RW in his Scunthorpe days, could be an option.
-
Worst option ever would be playing Middleton on the right

Player minutes are monitored to within an inch of their lives at all levels now. I’d be interested to see what medical say about the utilisation of Mols and Bailey. Feels like there has been a drop off in their performance of late and they have played a huge amount of minutes.
I could never understand their involvement in the JPT games. Perfect time for them to rest. Even though they didn’t start games the whole match day process, late nights after games etc takes its toll combined with the minutes they did play.
Maybe they are both machines and all the numbers remain where they should be.
-

He is absolutely dreadful on the right. The fact he’s started multiple cup games there is pretty bewildering.
-
I would put Hanlon on the right and Gibson down the middle with haks on the left

Gibson down the middle?!
Are you serious?!

—————-—TLT
Sterry/Byrne/Pearson/Senior
————Bailey/Gotts
——————Clifton
———Haks————Lee
——————Hanlan
Something like that for me. Adelakun and Lee more centrally where they can get closer to Hanlan and the threatening areas. Sterry is great at getting forward and senior has been growing that part imo to offer us the width. Clifton poor Tuesday for me but this is exactly his sort of game.
Obviously Hanlan could end up not making it, if so then not a scooby. We can win with that team.
-
Is it confirmed Mols won’t play, or is it still unknown?
-
These are the games I miss going to. Local derby, good following from the Rovers, a few beers before & after. I reckon it’ll be a close one today, probably a draw. Hope everyone going has a good day.
-
They’re in decent home form and we had a bit of a slog midweek, I’d be happy with a point today.
-

2 wins 3 draws from their last 6 games, Rovers 2 wins 2 draws in the last 6. Fairly even, but I still fancy a win here.

I read somewhere that they’ve only lost 1 of their last 9 or 10 at home. Not an easy place to go and win.

yes I am , he has pace and scored alot of goals at Carlisle,Hanlon outside is better and more effective and would play some good balls across the box for people to run onto ,Hanlon does not hold the ball up top for the midfield to get onto his strength is playing it to his feet and taking on the fullbacks

One thing's for sure it's nothing to do with intimidating atmosphere. It's like a graveyard there. Mind out for the tennis balls
-
Is the game on FM with Dee Dah? At least I can listen to it then.
-
We’re so hard to predict, we’ve got some very good players, but our head coach is useless, if you turn up wanting it you’ll get it, if you come to defend we’ll beat ya.
Hope you have a good day in the town centre, it’s a really good drink, not many places better .

Think we’re in the wrong spoons, it’s full of Barnsley fans

In the first half Goodman, the Barnsley keeper, went down to get a tactical break to allow Barnsley to change their set up after we had been on top.
The football authorities have to do something to stop this happening.
Goodman by the way did the same thing at the Eco when he played with Wimbledon.
-
Get in there. Bang bang dingle dingle bang bang our fine three fingered friends.
-
Well done DRFC, we were the better team on the whole. I though Senior was MOTM ( fast becoming player of the season for me ) Well done Gibson, he’s had a tough season, and been average to poor, but today stood strong, played really well. Middleton… I’m not sure he will be here next year, so much promise but looks lost at this level.
Get in!
-
Big bonus win that. Maybe not much in it but the Barnsley summeriser on RS, said we deserved it for being better organised and knowing our jobs. A refreshing change and the Pearson, Byrne partnership continues to be thrifty.
Can't celebrate for too long as we need to follow this up v Port Vale and see if we we can get nearer the top half.
-
I wonder what someone in the crowd said to Sterry
-
Win on Tuesday and we’re almost there, the only team who could realistically catch us is Blackpool and can’t see that happening.
-
I wonder what someone in the crowd said to Sterry
We thought someone had thrown something at him. Could be wrong though.
-
TLT pushed his timewasting way beyond reasonable after getting booked for it. Very lucky not to get a second yellow. It looked like one of our staff, Richardson? had a word with him on the pitch after the final whistle. Deffo needs to rein it in.

Can’t recall a keeper ever getting two yellows for time wasting. Can anyone else?

Gibson - All I can think is that I was watching a different game to you. He lost the ball so much and hardly made any tackles.
I can’t believe he was left on the pitch so long.

Awful take, you definitely went to a different game. He wasn't exceptional by any means but he definitely put a shift in but did tire towards the end.

Absolutely, he played quite well at times I thought and was absolutely knackered at the end and noticeably. He put a big shift in today, can't criticise that at all.
-
Gibson was very good today. Contributed a lot to the win.

Spot on Scawsby he looked a different player, he worked hard. Someone has probably had a whisper in his ear. Great performance from the lad.

TLT should have been sent off, though i dont think it would have affected the result. When he moved the ball from one side to the other after already been booked, im literally screaming ffs kick it. Senior gave him a bollocking after it.
Cracking result though, to keep 2 clean sheets against 2 of the highest scoring teams in the division this week is impressive.
Pearson and Byrne look really good together.
-

His performances have been frustrating for him as he knows he’s good enough , but luck plays its part . With Middleton as your shadow Gibson has often been taken off and vice versa when things haven’t ran for him . McCann seems to have finally found a set up that’s getting results and those players likes of Maxwell and McGrath who were ever present , have now been side lined , but Gibson as always kept taking opportunities as well as chipping in with goals .

TLT does what all keeper do throughout a game and though he did push it to a limit , I doubt any keeper has been booked twice for time waiting and he’s probably playing within the laws allowed .
-
Great team performance today Middleton looked knackered early on though, what a player Robbie Gotts has become for us
-
Agree on T-LT. I think he was lucky to stay on.
Assessor must surely put Ref right , as again he showed that with Players on a Yellow he was not prepared to upgrade it to a Red
Result good though
-
To be honest, I thought he was unlucky to be booked so soon. I couldn't recall him doing too much time wasting before the booking. But yes, after the booking, he probably pushed it, although as others have said, has a keeper ever been sent off for two yellow cards for time wasting.
We could have done with that ref against Luton, blimey he'd have ended up sending 3-4 off.
-
Pissed me off when he checked to see the ref wasn’t looking before moving the ball to the other side. Does the pillock not realise there is 3 assistants as well that ARE looking? He should’ve been sent off for it.
Cracking performance otherwise though and same last Tuesday night. His concentration is much better now he knows he’s got genuine quality sat on the bench wanting his spot. That’s the key to him it looks.
-
I liked that TLT got away with the bit of sh!thousery. End of the day he moved the ball across to the other side yet, it’s not as bad as pretending to be injured like Goodman has for 3 different clubs against us. The only difference is the ref can’t prove Goodman wasn’t injured so he can do nothing about it. TLT is back to being the keeper we know he was. When Clark came back from injury he should have kept his place IMO.
Also disagree on Gibson. Made a few good tackles but that’s all he did.
-
Gibson worked hard but is so frustrating- we don’t create many opportunities and when we do he gets the decision and execution right about one in ten times. I think confidence is everything with him, and even though he got great backing from the fans he wasn’t really on it in attack yesterday. Credit for battling away though when they had the ball.
-

I go MAD when seeing blatant time wasting even when it's Rovers doing it ( though I will be in a very small minority )
Keepers are excruciating to watch and TL-T really pushed his luck but he was blatant with his time wasting unlike the slyer ones
I've often gone barmy on here when professional Keepers 1k or more per game fail to stop a ball rolled back to them by a Ball Boy which of course is either not seen by Ref and Lino or seen but not acted on
Get more sly TLT lol
-
Seconded Wolfy. Absolutely definitely seconded. It's a loathsome aspect of the game these days.

I missed most of the second half due to being more entertained by the fella with the flag mucking about outside the stadium on the hill up to the coaches. Not sure if he'd been chucked out or was there for moral support, but had me chuckling. Bobbies made him take his flag down off the fence, so he's waving it at the crowd on the way back to the coach! I'm easily entertained!!
