McCann suggesting that Billy could be fit for Saturday. I suspect that could well be his final ever game for us at home. He’s earned a decent send off I think.
-
Agreed. We never got the opportunity to give Copps a proper send off, so hopefully there is something planned.
-
I’m very surprised something hasn’t been announced now we have secured safety.
Surely they will confirm something before the match.
-
Probably wait to get tonight out of the way perhaps.
-
Unless we are getting an announcement in the next 48 hours then the only conclusions you could draw are (1) Hoden forgot to push the button; (2) he’s getting another contract; or (3) the club don’t intend to give him any kind of send off.
-
Or (4) Billy doesn’t want the fuss.
-
Or (5) his fitness for Saturday has serious doubts and availability as yet unknown
-
I would put money on that he is retiring at the end of the season and we will play a pre season friendly against Sheff Utd where he will play for 45 mins on each team.
-
Maybe young William is quietly sorting out a season in league 2 for those missing goals!
I remember hearing once that your career is over when the 'phone doesn't ring.
Injuries and health and fitness permitting there are still a few goals in the old dog yet, mark my words. I'm a great admirer of him, and his career.
There aren't many players about, when you mention their name, you get a grunt of admiration!
-
Now on the official site that Saturday will be his last (home?) game for DRFC
-
Thanks for the memories Billy and good luck in your next chapter
-
Listening to Billy on radio Sheffield right now and he is keeping his options open. He feels he still has another season left in him.
-
Legend!
-
Agree, legend
-
He’s desperate to get to 300 goals isn’t he. If he fancies playing on then fair f**ks to him. Scunny a likely destination you would think.
-

Reading the article it doesn’t seem like a new contract with us is on the table. Maybe league 2, he’s said before he wants to get to 300. Whether he does or not he’s still a Rovers legend.

But do goals on the national league count towards that 300?
If not then scunny need to get promotion first.

Yeah, just to add that he will be moving on and he loves the club. Possibility of going Ro rum to go full circle?
-
Don’t even post that as a joke. Horrible imagining him in their shirt.
-
He’s a club legend there’s no doubt. I’d like him to hang up his boots now and go into a coaching role, but that’s obviously up to him. He can probably do a job in league 2 but that will depend on his options I guess. Hope he gets a great send off on Saturday as he deserves.
-
Legend of a man
-
I don't see it happening but I would love to see him score one more goal for us.

If goals in the tin pot cup do, they have to.
-
Maybe if Harrogate survive he could go there.
-
Grimsby? Imagine him and Cook upfront. He would get plenty of goals there.
-
Don’t even post that as a joke. Horrible imagining him in their shirt.
Well it wouldnt be the first time would it?
-
A bona fide club legend here and at the Blades. Not many players achieve that kind of status at one club, much less two.
An all time great at Rovers, the Blades, and in the football league. He gets in the best ever elevens of all three in my view. We're very lucky to have seen him play here for so many years, his recent struggles absolutely don't take the shine off his career.
-
Knew this was coming but it’s still sad. When I was going week in week out in the Championship when he was firing them home it was probably the best period I’ve had supporting us. Was there for his debut and I’m gutted I won’t be there Saturday to see him off.
What a man. Get him on a banner in the stadium.
-
Thanks Billy, you have been amazing, you are a true gent always having time for the youngsters. Wishing you all the best in whatever you do next, you are a true legend. RTID
-
Wants to join up with McGoldrick ….somewhere
-
If York go up on Saturday, can see him there.
Thanks for the memories Billy.
Will never forget the courage shown to play against Middlesbrough then to score that goal.
Brought me to tears

Not going Scunny according to Butler. Comes across like he doesn’t like him for whatever reason.
-
Literally just came here to say exactly that having just seen the clip on twitter
Pretty awkward exchange that might’ve been bought if it was audio only but the facials said it all
I’m sure Billy Sharp won’t lose any sleep over what a man who gets changed out of a tracksuit into a turtle neck for a sky sports interview, then back into a tracksuit, thinks about him.
-
Never warmed to Butler. Seems a bit of a knob
-
I’ll always hold Butts in high regards after that header at Charlton but there’s definitely something there between them. 2 big personalities I suppose.
-

Possibly more of the case of one big personality and one not very big personality. One couldn’t handle the other.
-
He possibly knows that Billy would be on decent money and with having his coaching badges would be an option for the owners to turn to if results aren’t up to scratch.
I went off Andy when he turned up to a televised Rovers match dressed up smart on the touchline rather than the usual tracksuit.
A great player for us though.
-
Chesterfield might be a good club for Billy

It's a weird one that.
I remember Butler left Sheff Utd only a couple of months after signing for them due to some sort of bust-up (the season he joined us) and assumed it was that, but Sharp wasn't at Sheff Utd that season.
The only time they appear to have played together was at Scunny between 2005 and 2007. That's some grudge Butler is holding if it goes back that far!

Maybe. His body language in the interview and the blunt answering of the question suggested there may be more to it than that though.
I think most managers would say something along the lines of "I respect Billy's career but he's not someone we're looking to sign" rather than such a blunt "Nope!"

Butler looked pissed that the reporter even dared asked the question, and then it got worse as he tried to push him for a reason why.
-
Billy, during his time with us under SOD, was hands down the best striker I’ve ever seen wear the shirt. His first goal for us at Scunthorpe was electric, and from that moment he never looked back. After being overlooked by Blackwell at his boyhood club, he clearly had a point to prove you could see the hunger in everything he did. It must have been incredibly frustrating for him to land his dream move only for it to fall apart due to poor management, but we gave him a place to belong, and he showed exactly why he’s the EFL’s all time leading goalscorer. The rest, as they say, is history.
All the best, Billy, in whatever comes next, you deserve every bit of success that comes your way. A true legend.
-
I would put money on that he is retiring at the end of the season and we will play a pre season friendly against Sheff Utd where he will play for 45 mins on each team.
you would lose your money, playing one last season, but with who? Scunthorpe odds on

Not if you listen to Andy butler think there is some bad blood so unless he leaves then Billy won’t be going to scunny
-
Billy is only 5/2 against scoring today, still worth my couple of quid. Go Billy!!!!
-
Why would Sharp want to play for Butler anyway?
-
On bench today.
-
Inevitable, wasn’t it?
What a bloke. Thanks Billy. You’re the man.
-
Give Billy a 12 month contract as assistant coach to Green and first team coach of Belles with Club Doncastercas employer and a DRFC contract as coach and player .
-
Football man! I was proper choked up singing his name after the his goal. It just had to be him.
-
Whoever Sharpy has as his script writer needs a raise. Of course he scored today. Of course. Legend.
Lump on him bagging 4 against posh to bring up the 300.
-
He would've probably won it if their defenders didn't have their hands all over him from I think a long throw near the end.
-
Offer him another season.
-
So glad he scored and so glad I was there to see it.
-
Football man! I was proper choked up singing his name after the his goal. It just had to be him.
I got quite emotional after the game when he came to the South Stand and saw the look on his face as we were all singing his name, and realising that we are unlikely to see him in our shirt at the KM/ Eco.
-
Deservingly a legend
-
He deserves to have his ‘image’ up there at the back of the South Stand alongside all Rovers other legends.
-
Legend. Chuffed to bits he scored. What a way to go. Thank you William.
-
All the best Billy, you deserve it.
-
It will be a long time if ever before we see another striker like Billy Sharp at the Rovers.
True Rovers legend, thanks Billy.
-
We were in sponsors lounge, and saw his man of the match speech. To see him so emotional about that goal and say he came back because he felt he owed us something makes you realize we've seen something that doesn't come often
-
Agreed Danum, I still cannot believe we have had the best EFL striker in our team, and in 4 spells, when he could easily have walked into any club in the champ ( early career) and league 1 latterly.
We’ve been lucky, but it has been a two way street, we’ve been good for Billy too.
Not just a DRFC legend, an EFL legend.
-
Went with a Blades supporting friend today who wanted to be there for Billy. I’ve know him since we were ten years old and I’ve never seen him emotional before. That goal had him.
Like he said, some players you enjoy, some you admire, some you respect and maybe one in a generation you feel an emotional attachment to.
-
He will be hanging up his boots before too long and he can do that safe in the knowledge that thousands, probably hundreds of thousands of people alive and dead have looked at their opponent team sheet on a Saturday afternoon, seen his name, and thought oh no Billy f*cking Sharp, bet he scores against us. Respect to the lad for generating that response over more than two decades.
-
Quite moved watching Billy’s interview he’s obviously loved his journey with us
-
Quite moved watching Billy’s interview he’s obviously loved his journey with us
It would be nice to have a link to that moment for the thousands of us who couldn’t be there but would have loved to have been.
-
He’s definitely got another season in him at League One level. Go on Grant….
-
The best striker I have seen in a rovers shirt, those seasons in the championship before his move, he sent a buzz around the ground every time he was anywhere near the ball. He attracted the ball in the eighteen and six yard boxes, like a magnet.
His bullish nature, his ability to take the flak handed out by opposition fans but most of all the natural knack he has for being in the right place at the right time has made him a much admired player for us, and a pain in the Harris for everybody else.
He’s always been quick enough to get away from his marker without being lightening. He’s always doesn’t care how he scores he just wants a goal, you can see the frustration seeping out of him if he doesn’t.
His game hasn’t really changed from the younger version we first saw, maybe lost a slight bit in the ability to pull away from a defender, not much. His finishing is still there, unfortunately he hasn’t played regularly, been in and out. The service to him hasn’t been good this season.
With better service and more games ,he would have got into the late teens. As it is he has nine goals across all competitions.
If it his his last game for the club, then we will understand just how good he was when he isn’t there. We won’t see the like of him again. A real top striker who could score goals against anybody. I think another season would be a good choice as he still has enough ability to play at this level, he doesn’t give me the feeling of a player who hasn’t got it any more. You are a long time retired.
-
King Billy, legend!
-
I still remember seeing on sky sports news that we had signed him on loan and being baffled. We all remembered those 2 seasons at Scunthorpe and it was obvious he was top, top class. I honestly couldn’t believe it.
I was 17 year old then, not even legally allowed to drink. I’m 34 year old now and he’s just scored his last ever home goal for us. Mad.
-
100% I would be discussing another year with him.
He isnt in it for the money, he wants his handful of goals for a record. He would be great experience around the team and dressing room.
People saying we shouldn't have signed him were, I assume, concerned of the wages. Well if he signs for £500 a week, or a pay as you play deal then why wouldn't we?
People will respond now saying he wouldn't do that.....but he already said he doesnt need the money and loves it here.
We really shouldn't let him go. What better coach of young strikers would there be than the EFLs BEST EVER?
He has to stay for me, but terms that suit the club.
-
He might be the most dog shit football coach of all time. People need to get it out of their head that ability on the pitch always correlates to their ability to coach. Totally different.
We can’t be offering him a deal and thankfully we won’t be. He isn’t good enough anymore if we’re wanting to progress up this league. That’s been clear all season.
Club legend and greatest striker in a lot of our lifetimes, sad it’s ending of course but it’s also the right time. I hope he smashes it whatever he chooses to do next, be it coaching, or continuing to play.
-
Three biggest fan fantasies:
1. "pay as you play' contract
2. Great player equals great coach
3. Headline transfer fee in a press article is remotely what will actually ever be received
-
Or the flip side he might be the best
Wouldn't know until an opportunity was given
People are allowed differing opinions you know :headbang:

Sharp is/was not just a great player. He's a great inspiration in the dressing room, with enormous experience and knowledge in the art of goal-scoring.

Exactly the point :scarf:
Rupee92 doesnt want that anywhere near our dressing room though BB
-
It appears Billy has said that he won’t be with us next year.
The only way he could stay would be in some kind of coaching role, but maybe he already has something lined up elsewhere.
I guess a L2 side maybe would take a chance at player/coach, and personally with his attitude and passion for the game he would have a good chance of being successful.
The injury has kept him out for the last few weeks, but he seemed to be in good shape yesterday.
Couldn’t help notice that he was prepared to go down the line of supporters in the east stand, before he was dragged away on Grants instructions. Young kids who will have never seen him play before he came back to us this time, absolutely idolise him, says it all about the man.

An interview from the heart.
We will miss you Billy.
-
Last game of the season start him up front with someone to play off (NOT as a lone front man) and give him the best possible chance to bag one more goal for the Rovers.
-
He needs two more goals to hit 70 for rovers and four for the landmark
-
The real way to play to Billy’s strengths were there for all to see in the second half. Proper ( not inverted) wingers who put the ball in the box.
I thought Hanlan and Haks made a real difference in those positions.
-
Hanlon looked like a different player out on the wing, a real threat.
-
Agreed.. especially on quick breaks, which may work very well in next weeks away fixture..
-
Hanlon looked like a different player out on the wing, a real threat.
Agreed. I thought he had a really good game and never stopped working and tracking back when needed.

MoM for me. I thought he was superb. With anything like a decent ref, he gets the left back sent off, because their lad simply couldn't handle him and committed 3 yellow card offences in 5 minutes.
It was like having 2018/19 vintage Mallik Wilks back in the side.

As he's been played out of position all season that's hardly a basis for making such a judgement is it.. ?

He played there because Mols was absent.
-
Ok. But surely he's played in the middle a lot rather than out wide? Judging him playing him in a position that is not where his skills and preferences lie is surely a bit OTT? I could understand if the argument is that we don't need another winger, but for folk to say he's useless is wrong. Yesterday, playing in his natural position, proved that.
Cheers

Got to be some form of permanent tribute to Billy at the ground now his playing days here are over. Up there with Copps for me.
-
Will the Copps documentary ever see the light of day ?

McCann thought there was something off about Butlers comments too it seems.
-
I suspect Butler doesn’t want Billy around for the same reasons that Wellens didn’t want Butler. Got to be careful not to have someone if your team who wouldn’t mind replacing you.

The left back looked like he was running in treacle from kick off, assumed he must be carrying an injury hence why he was so handsy, he couldn't keep up at alll

I think this is somewhat insulting to the vintage Mallik!
Completely different quality.
-
Long live the King!
-
Amazing, get him on that wall at the back of the black bank
-
That third goal. He received it slightly behind him & wide of the goal, adjusted turned 360 degrees looked up & slotted it between keeper & post.
A fantastic predatory goal only he could have scored.
We’re going to miss him more than we know.
This is not sentiment talking or me getting carried away by the day but……we have had worse players on the books under Grant who were signed to do what only Billy can.
Offer him another year.
-
Amazing, get him on that wall at the back of the black bank
See #59!
-
Thats finished my season off incredibly well. Hats off to the fat lad from Sheffield
Although my celebrations in the home section seemed to upset a few
Another Billy memory to capture for me
-
Well done Billy , I will see you at York next season
-
Great decision to let him go, scores a hat trick in his last game, guy hasn’t got it any more, what a joke. Going out on top what a way to go, well done Billy.
-
None of the Peterborough players appealed for offside when Billy netted what would have been his 300th career goal.
Could not that Lino have kept his flag down for gawd’s sake, we’ve seen worse given. I hope he & not Billy has a sleepless night.
-
It wasn’t offside
-
I thought Lees was playing him onside when Lee passed it
-
Put Billy in Broadbent place when he was one on one with the keeper & it’s a goal all day long.
As for the three chances Hanlan had, two of them just him & the keeper & well, Billy finishes the game with two match balls!
-
It wasn’t offside
Looked tight but off to me, unless you’ve seen another angle I’m not sure you can definitively call it.
Typical Sharp goals today. What a way to sign off and what a privilege it’s been seeing him do that time and time again over the years.
-
Time to crowd fund one more year..?
-
Is it true that Billy is the oldest Englishman to score a hat trick?
I will miss seeing him at the club. What a legend!
-
Is it true that Billy is the oldest Englishman to score a hat trick?
I will miss seeing him at the club. What a legend!
Opta tweeted that he has now scored EFL hattricks in his teens, twenties, thirties and forties.
I don't imagine there's many others who have achieved that!
-
Cried my eyes out at the end when he came over. The man had just scored a hat trick in his final game for his “second home club,” yet he looked more gutted about not reaching 300. That tells you everything about him , relentless his entire career. A brilliant touch from the players and staff too, stepping back to let him have his moment and only moving forward when he was ready. It’s been a season with some dark nights, but this is a fantastic group of players, whatever people say about their quality. Love this club.
-
Has anyone else scored an EFL hat-trick in their forties?
-
Has anyone else scored an EFL hat-trick in their forties?
Get a statue raised on the concourse to acknowledge his amazing talent and longevity!!
-
If that 4th had counted it would have been one of the greatest things I’ve seen at a football match.
-
I will admit to being emotional tonight too, or is that the onions I’m chopping?
Hard to watch the Bailey interview, he’s very emotional about it all.
I love everything about Billy, he plays the game how I played, how I want to watch, and how much passion from every player I think I should see. I imagine he sets the tone in every training session, and is a true inspiration to younger lads as well as the older. He is clearly a player they all love.
All the best Billy, it’s been a real thrill watching a master. The fact he played and loved my small town/city club so much, means everything!
-
Hope that if he chooses to call it a day, he can focus on scoring a hat trick away from home in his final professional game, rather than ending on 299.
-
We won’t see another like him, a top striker, still got the hunger at forty.
-
Did anyone back the hat trick at 50/1?
I only had a look and am now kicking myself!
-
Hope that if he chooses to call it a day, he can focus on scoring a hat trick away from home in his final professional game, rather than ending on 299.
No chance he’s calling it a day, before the emotion came he looked pretty pissed off to end up with “just” a hat trick.
-

Mad how emotional he was. I hope I’m not reading t o much into it and thinking he’s knows it’s the end for him too.
-
I loved how when Billy scored his 2nd, our player, Clifton I think, rushed to pick the ball out of the back of the net to get it back to the centre spot to give Billy the best chance of getting 2 more. Normally with 20 minutes to go and 2 goals up you would not be in a hurry to restart. Great spirit and great characters in our club.

post match interview
-
I did think that about Bailey, and Billy mentions the fact we will be very lucky if he’s still here next season. I don’t think he will in all honesty.
Also putting it out there that Grant also said players leave, so do managers! It was an odd comment that raised my awareness, in his post match. He does mention he is talking to players for next season too, so not sure.
Grant was very annoyed at the booing at the end of the Exeter game - his words then were to the effect of “ I don’t want to be any part of that” even Liam re asked the question, as it sounded like he’d had enough.
A big summer ahead.

I hope Billy does call it a day, what away to end your career scoring a hattrick in your last ever game at the age of 40 , it doesn't get any better than that. If he does carry on , yes he will hit the 300 goal milestone, but would his final game be has dramatic has today's, I very much doubt it.
-
I loved how when Billy scored his 2nd, our player, Clifton I think, rushed to pick the ball out of the back of the net to get it back to the centre spot to give Billy the best chance of getting 2 more. Normally with 20 minutes to go and 2 goals up you would not be in a hurry to restart. Great spirit and great characters in our club.
Not sure who it was from memory but when Oram went down near the end after a catch, players up the field were urging him to get on with it when Billy only needed one more.
Absolutely gutted for him to miss out, especially if the fourth wasn't offside, but what a way to go.
-
Unbelievable stuff really, will stay in the memory that one. A game that really meant nothing but yet so much in a way. Couldn't have picked a better way for his playing career with us to end.
Yes him moving on is ultimately the right decision but he earnt that today and leaves with some great memories.
-
I think we can morally say Billy finished at the Rovers with the 300!
What a way to go, from the first time i saw him play against us for Scunny at Belle Vue you could tell he was a special player.
I'll say it again i doubt we will ever see another striker like Billy at the Rovers.
True Rovers legend.
-
If we don’t get Billy to stay another year with us it would be madness.
He hinted in his interview pre match that he might be willing to give it a go if Grant made the call.
We will not be able to sign a better striker and natural goalscorer than him.
-
What a performance today, when he scored I said surely he can’t do it, said same after the second after the third I was sure he was going to get his fourth. What a day I felt very emotional at the end can’t begin to think how Billy was feeling. The crowd today were amazing even Posh fans joined in
-
What a player. Looks like the other players were anti-selfish and lining them up for Billy (on Grants instructions by the sounds of it, you can imagine in anything other than a dead rubber like this he wouldn’t have been impressed) but make you wonder if Grant is wondering if he’s given up on Billy too soon. He himself said he was gutted he was leaving, almost as if it wasn’t his decision!
I can’t see Grant doing a U-turn, and if he doesn’t I hope Billy calls it a day at that, hat-trick in front of fans that love his bones is Hollywood stuff and he’ll never get a better send off. With his character I’m sure it will be further ammo that he can do a job somewhere else for another year.
-
Absolute privilege today to see a master craftsman demonstrate his skills.
Good luck lad. Whatever you do. It's been emotional.
-
All good things come to an end, and that time is now.
-

He's been an absolute legend but if you've watched him all season there's no way you'd be offering him another deal. Time to move on, for us and for him.
-
Sharp, probably for the first time this season, got the service that has made him a prolific scorer all of his career.
Greedy wingers don't suit strikers of his calibre.
Sign him up as a player/striker coach. He'd be the best in the business.

I have watched him all season and he has not been at his best for all of it, but then again, which of our players has been.
Last week and today though he has shown us that he still has what it takes.
He has known all season that he hasn’t been guaranteed game time and when he has, playing as a lone frontman hasn’t shown him in the best light.
If he would be prepared to play on a low ish wage he could be a genuine asset.

Grant and the players built the whole structure around him today in what was effectively a dead rubber. It's not the basis for making a sound judgement as to how best to set up for next season.
If we're serious about pushing on then, as sad as it is, it's time to say goodbye to Billy

Agreed, lets try and take the emotion out of today. Billy will be 41 midway through next season, it's crazy to think he will be a consistent performer. We need to seriously think about some sort of coaching role for him though.

Give over. No player on our books would have scored three goals today like Sharp did.
If you're good enough, you're young enough.
-
Nobody’s saying make him our No.1 striker!
But….what he brings to the club, the training pitch, the dressing room & yes the pitch when called upon is immeasurably.
At the end of the day it’s Grants call…either way.
-
He can’t do a worse job coaching outfield players than Mad Baz Richardson surely. Head says it’s time to move on, but heart says a player coach role for next season transitioning to coaching would be brilliant to see. Tend to think if he goes into coaching full time the there is likely to be a space at the Blades that he would choose over us. Wilder has offered as much in recent interviews.
-
One of the great Football League goal scorers, and we've had the privilege of watching him do his thing for our club over a number of seasons.
What an absolutely legendary way to sign off. Couldn't have gone much better for him really.
Cheers Billy.
-
Billy will without a doubt go down as one of our club's all time legends and deservedly so. It will be really sad not to see him in a Rovers shirt again but there can't be any room for sentiment. We need to find a hidden gem who can be the new Billy Sharp and try and keep Billy on in some kind of coaching role to try to pass on the passion and enthusiasm he has to the next generation. Model professionals who every other club in the division would love to have are very rare. Can we unearth another Billy (or Alick or Kitch or Copps)? Here's hoping. :rtid:
-
Billy has scored football league hat tricks in his teens 20’s 30’s and now 40’s
-
Offer him a player coach role, stick him on the bench and if we get a pen, send him on to score it then he can hang up his boots
-
As a Blade, this season has been all a bit cr*p but woke up today smiling still about yesterday and Billy. That's what the great players do for us.Sadly we don't have similar at Bramall Lane, but so hope he goes on to get that elusive goal and a few more somewhere else.
I've been lucky enough to see some proper players at SUFC -Currie, Woodward, Booker, Ndiaye and your very own Brian Deane (thank you!!) with his mate Agana, and Billy is in there too.
There's so much about the modern game that gets on my nerves but every now and then a player comes along who changes it all up.
They make the difference. Wew're fortunate to have seen him play.
Enjoy the close season folks!

will always get goals, but it’s more that that with Billy. His whole attitude to the game has an effect on anyone around him, and that’s why players and supporters love him so much.
Opposition supporters hate him, the reason is they know how good he is and is always the most likely to score against them. Yes he takes the mick out of them, but that’s Billy, but who on here will ever forget some of his antics over the years. One of his best was the chicken dance kindly performed for the Bradford fans.
-
Sign him on a game to game contract and employ him as a coach for a couple of good young strikers. He will be happy to pack up once he gets hid goal, that shouldn't take long. He would love the coaching role, and we could afford to get a couple of raw-ish recruits if he was looking after them.

You’re assuming he’d want a game to game contract

Maybe the next Dingles manager?

Bloody rubbish Billy it should have been left foot right foot and a header

The celebration after his goal against Scunny at their place not long after leaving them was rather good!
I work with quite a few Scunny fans and i can tell you they weren't best pleased!!
Billy, the greatest showman!
-
I honestly think he would sign for £1 a week if it meant his chance of getting to 300
BUT he has once again shown that if we play to his strengths he will score goals. I 100% believe he would get 20 goals if we played to his strengths.
We should be negotiating a short term deal, as above get him on for a pen OR even better play to his strengths and he will definitely score. He was never about pace so dont know wht this comes up.
I dont care about age he has always had it....and he has still got it.
-
So you'd build a team around a 40 year old who's managed one and a half games in two months? It's an interesting strategy.

Has anyone said ‘build a team around Billy Sharp’?
Grow up.

Interesting interview with Grant today on a U-turn on Billy. Didn’t rule it out but said it was unlikely, but the language used made it sound like it was Billy’s call. Also said he asked to leave in January.
Sounds to me like McCann would probably take him in a bit-part plus coaching role but that would not suit Billy if he decides he wants to play on and he hasn’t made his mind up yet what he wants to do (probably muddled further by 4 goals in 1.5 games!). Be crazy if that wasn’t on the table though if we are prepared to take Baz Richardson for 9 months.
-
As suggested elsewhere, offering Billy a player/coach role makes sense.
-
He also has the youth team option at Sheff U to go to, if he wants! and may feel that is a closer step to want he wants next ( manage Sheff U)
I’ve no doubt he would be a great coach, based on how the players say he is around the club.
If he thinks straight enough, he will realise that no club is going to give him what he is asking for in terms of playing every game - not even if he drops a level, maybe two.
So, if he does have his heart set on getting that 1 goal, I would hope DRFC are in the box seat.
-
How much do the club spend on getting him his 1 goal?
Also this coaching malarkey… it isn’t just talking? It is a whole host of qualities and skills needed to be a good one. That’s why majority of former players can’t and won’t do it, or do and are shite at it. Where has he learnt his coaching trade?
-
Billy has said his goodbyes and unlike Jack Senior, wasn’t offered a contract.
Grant has said the squad needs strengthening.
We have spent half the season in a relegation battle. We have to remember that as nice as it would be to get Billy his 300th goal, that the club’s objectives for the coming season and Billy’s personal goals are two separate things.
Grant has said he wants nine new players.
Billy is a Rovers legend and has given us some iconic moments. Let’s look to the future and make some new ones.

He’s been doing his coaching badges with the FA for the past few years I believe.
Billy Sharp, 40, is actively planning for a coaching career after studying for badges while playing, with Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder openly inviting him to return to Bramall Lane in a coaching capacity. While potentially continuing his playing career, Sharp aims to become a manager and has been learning from coaches, including during his recent time at Doncaster Rovers
Sounds like more than just “talking”.

Plenty of them do. Do those fans on here wanting him to get a coaching role have knowledge of his level?
I’d like the best possible coaches that we can afford to be coaching us. Not just because they’re a former very good player for us that are very well liked by the fans.
Chances of Billy Sharp being the best possible available coach to us is very slim I would say. The pool is massive.

I think grant would have offered him a contract but Billy wants to play week in week out not a 10 minutes here 10 minutes there

Yes, coaching is far more than that. I’m saying people seem to think (with zero knowledge on him) that he is automatically a good option as a coach for us based on his influence around the dressing room and club.

Cannot be long before someone on here floats the mythical ‘pay as you play’ contract as an option.

Billy has stated on Twitter that Scunthorpe was ‘miles off’. The way Grant said ‘a certain club’ made it feel like a specific one he has history with not just a random Harrogate or York. I feel more and more like the Blades were looking to take him on loan to start off a new journey with them?
-
Was on Look North last night in a Sheff U top so maybe he's going back there. Think he was doing something for charity .
-
Think it was the Padel tournament he has had a hand in, DRFC have a team in but BS representing Blades (interestingly with 3 other ex Rovers, Duffy, Cotterill and Kilgallon)
-
He won’t have gone to Scunthorpe in January because they are not in the 92 league clubs and before anyone jumps on about his stint in America he was playing in their top league. Also it’s rumoured that him and Andy Butler don’t see eye to eye

Sheffield United bound...?

Heard maybe York !

Will the Copps documentary ever see the light of day ?
Premiere is on 18 June at Cast.

Heard maybe York !
York, Port Vale and Chesterfield is who I’ve seen mentioned.
I think we should just sign McGoldrick and have Sharp as a coach.
-
Can’t see it being Chesterfield, especially after the grief they gave him at the cup tie
-
I think he’d do well for York !

York’s owner is a mad man and he’s doing the recruitment himself. Could happen.

He’s not replacing stones or Pearce at York

Got a mate who’s ‘close’ to what’s happening at York Gaz, he quoted Billy to them and their keeper who he really rates, to us !

Just like the Huddersfield massive were quoting Grant to them a couple weeks ago?
I'd be surprised if Billy didnt go to Sheff U as player coach and they will sub him on to take a pen at home for his 300.

I’m just imagining if that were to happen and he was to fail to score from the penalty.

It’s a forum chaps ! Just saying what I was told, it’s good to talk, that said wherever Billy goes, i personally wish him the best of luck, I’ve no doubt he’ll be back at our place in the future as a manager !

York are definitely local enough to be an option if it was right for both.
Billy wants the opportunity to get 1 goal but I think it may be overlooked the further contribution he could have. I would still like to see him stay here but think that ship has sailed. From what I'd read he nearly went back to Sheff U in January so wont be surprised to see him go there.
