Title: Greatest Foreigners' XI
Post by: BillyStubbsTears on February 14, 2010, 11:51:46 pm
Just seen a similar thread on the Wensdeh site, eulogising Nilsson, Petrescu, Stefanovic, Di Canio, Carbone et al.

I wonder if the trolls will cotton on to the irony.

I wonder if they'll cotton on a bit more when we paddle their arse on Tuesday.

Hakan Hayrettin maybe?

Hakan Ramis-Hayrettin (born February 4, 1970) is an English former professional footballer. He was born in Enfield, London to Turkish parents.

Or does the fact he was born in Enfield scupper the whole foreigner thing?

Can we have \"offical\" clarification on the eligibility of players from the Irish Republic? Or are they excluded to make it more of a challenge?

But no, Colin Hawkins doesn't make it either way.

No, RoI doesn't count for these purposes.

Course, if RoI DID count, then O'Driscoll could be manager. And Heffernan could be on the bench...

B*lls! Forgot about Jamie Lawrence  :(

(I only scrolled back through 11 years of squad lists!)

What limited information there is about Prince Moncrieffe suggests hem was born in England and hasn't represesnted anyone at international level?

That's probably correct then as I used the notoriously bad soccerbase!

If we allow loan players like Dino Seremet then we can certainly include John Filan

Isn't it about time people laid off this guy as well? The player was never given a go here and was a quality player for past teams like Wednesday. He even scored some screamers. If given half a chance (like Walker was doing when caretaker) he would have been a good asset to the team in league 1 for sure, but true to form Rovers fans are quick to criticise if not an instant impact.

Here's a couple more that qualify

George Berry (CD) West Germany

Dylan Kerr (D) Malta

Although George Berry was born in Germany he was actually a full Welsh international, so I think it is clear which his choice of nationality was.

Dylan Kerr was Maltese born, but according to Wiki is English so I guess the jury's out on that one

Yes mate, he was. I too thought of him. He was quite highly rated (I'm pretty sure he represented Canada at some level) but then he was released and disappeared.

Paul James had a serious eye condition which if memory serves eventually  sent him blind or it might be my memory that's gone doolally.  Anyway what about Dean Walling, St Kitts & Nevis I believe

Well they reckon he used to turn up to training rat arsed and claimed he only had 1 pint, so I reckon he`s probably not very good at counting
