stop the moaning and build the hype surrounding our club and its potential to push onto the next level.
There is one thing that bugs me most of all about our beloved club and that is the lack of ability in being able to promote itself successfuly in its own town to the local public ......... and then moan when attendences/season tickets are not at the sort of levels to be able to match the ambition of our beloved chairman, the club and those who watch the team week in week out.
I agree that the economic climate has hit hard but look at the government who say were out of the recession , and although its bo*****'s it makes people feel better and SPEND what little hard earned cash they have.
I therefore think that with the vsc we have a brilliant sounding box upon which to promote the club and show them what is possible and as such I suggest that an extraordinary meeting be held by Gartom and all others to discuss what can be done and obviously improve the vsc's membership at the same time.
I think even simple things such as a flyer drop with the season ticket sales around all of the properties in Donny and included with every months issue of the free press and donny star would start to make people we have a team to be proud of.
Yes it will need volunteers, and some monies but given what Sean has done with the team this year (I think he new the supporters were with him last year) and some supporters being in privileaged positions or having certain contacts we have a way in which we can pull our resources together even if it means working with the clubs marketing dept to make sure it is done in everyone best interrest.
I honestly think that if he sees that there is the potential to take this club further and that it could be him and rok that do it and that means making it a bigger club with Ryans and the towns backing then why would he want to leave when he effectively could build his own empire here and take the club into the prem, Europe and beyond.
o.k. all that is all a pipedream ...... but isn't where we are now after where we have been
Come on lads we need to enjoy this and do our bit to make everything else a reality
oh yeah that includes singing in the next home matches, I never agree to those who say its like a morge but not even the barmy army are singing we need to show those dee daas and billy sharpe what we are all about
ccccccccccccccccooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeee ooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnn uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu rrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeddddddddddddddddddsssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:
-
yes yes yes . We should really milk this current league position and turn on all the taps in the Marketing Strategy to boost the sale of tickets for at and Tuesday but more importantly for next season .
-
Are you Richard Caborn?
-
Richard George Caborn (born 6 October 1943) is a British Labour politician, who has been the Member of Parliament for Sheffield Central since 1983; he previously served as the Minister of Sport at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, holding the position longer than anyone else to date, before being appointed as Prime Minister Gordon Brown's Ambassador for the 2018 World Cup bid.He firmy believes every single citizen of Doncaster should ....vote Rovers!
-
As mentioned previously, I attended a \"grow your club\" seminar backed by the County FA.
I have since found links to the presenter, which has the seminar now online
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpRr9LwUwgY
The basic principles apply, regardless if a one team club or a Premiership outfit.
We have mentioned in the past re-looking at doing the focus report again, or perhaps we say as a group we are all going to market the Plymouth game - WE ALL promote the game - someone to design flyers to download, some design emails that we can all send out to our contacts etc. That way we can show what can be acheived.
-
Now that is a very sound idea indeed Nathan.
Come on chaps. How about it? Even if we all just did a mas mailing to our email contacts I suspect we'd be contacting a five figure number.
This deserves to be on the front gpage.

I can help out with this.
Generally speaking, it seems a better idea to try and help market the club ourselves rather than whining about the club on here.
Who's the gaffer then?
-
The Plymouth attendance will be poor, so we might as well use are collective effort and skills to boost the attendance instead of moaning. Who knows, if we are a success the Rovers marketing department might listen a bit more.
-
May be worth noting that the club DOES have an initiative for sports clubs for the Plymouth game. Although clearly not well publicised as no-one on here seems to have heard of it:
http://www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk/page/News/0,,10329~1997709,00.html
I had to look quite hard on DROS to find it, and only found it then because I knew it was there!
-
I think making a standard flyer and posting them around the borough isn't a bad idea at all. If take-aways can do it and get extra business then why can't the club? promote what we have achieved and what we want to do etc, really sell the club. Make offers of say \"present this flier at the ticket office and get a £5 discount for a match or a 5% discount on season tickets\".
There are so many things the club can do to promote itself more then it does, it just needs someone there with the initiative to do something about it.
-
Gent's
you have all made me very happy this morning with your fantastic \"can do\" attitude. I've not yet had the chance to look at the video by Norfolk (thanks for replying to my e-mail by the way) due to being knackered and hungover after Saturday on the tiles
However i also e-mailed Rob who thought that there was also grounds for something along this line to help promote the club and show how a few volunteers can suddenly have a massive impact on bringing the club further to the front of peoples minds to want to watch and support them. In reality our town should be able to support the club quite easily for a stadium of at least 25 to possibly 30,000 with the directors then being able to concentrate on supporting the playing side.
I'm quite keen that the club are in on this sort of idea too , as they should be aware that we are not wanting to do an \"i told you so\" more of an \"this is what you can do and we are here to help\" attitude. This is just the first simple idea of which i'm sure we all have amny other sustainable ideas which could be done in order to promote the club better in its own town.
Rob said he's going to talk to rovers to see what we can work together on so until then i'm looking forward to see the type of flyers we may be able to design to sne out to people
Nice work people
-
The flyer should contain quotes from recognisable names, example Paul Merson on Sky, \"Doncaster play an attacking passing game, I would pay to watch them.\" It adds weight to the argument of coming to see the Rovers.

Red Baron, all the local Leagues (Doncaster & Sheffield) were informed of this inititative last week. All the Sheffield, Barnsley, Worksop & Rotherham junior league teams know about it because I've sent them all two emails on the subject and also put it up on the Sheffield & District Junior League (www.junleague.com) website.

Not sure about about the tagline, but I had to write something. I can change the text if anyone has any good ideas. Over to you lot.
-
Its a cracking start Snod and gives those people who shop every sat something different to thnink about thaking their family too and then becoming hooked.
The only thing I would suggest which either Rob, Nathan or gartom could comment on is does the club have something similar but in particular style which they are trying to roll out.
Don't get me wrong I think with your skills and imagination, you should be involved in some way and what you've done is a great start, however if we start doing something that may go against something the club are doing it may confuse people and we know on here how quickly everyone can be to critisize and say how unproffesional it looks.
Rob/Nath/Gartom do you have any comments which could help?
Cheers

The club are also giving 2 free tickets for the Plymouth game to all Rovers' Alliance members.
-
Looks good Snod, but I'd be wary about using trademarks (eg Coca Cola) without authorisation and of publishing details of pricing etc. - that's the club's responsibility and you know how pissed off we get when they get stuff wrong.
As godlike says, maybe the club should be providing these for every game for people to print out and display in their local boozer, workplace etc
Also, I suggest it should be a black & white friendly format, otherwise there's going to be a lot of pissed off bosses at work having all their colour ink being used up on Rovers posters!
-
It's a commendable effort but honestly I'm not sure flyers and posters are likely to be that effective.
It's not like promoting a night club or bar. In that case people may not have heard of the venue and might decide to give it a try after seeing a poster.
In Doncaster there can't be many people who have even a slight interest in the football who don't know there is a club called Doncaster Rovers who play at the new stadium.
You're best bet would be to try and sell what they might not know about the Rovers.
They might not know about the passing football. I'd go for a big, simple title, attention grabbing title. Something like SEXY FOOTBALL.
Say it's total football
Say it's the best Doncaster Rovers side there has ever been. It's the truth!
By all means quote Paul Merson and Harry Redknapp who said it's like watching Real Madrid.
Then maybe just maybe you might get the attention of one or two people who perhaps did go down Belle Vue but haven't been for a while. Big claims like that might intrigue them. Then on the day hope they put in a good performance to match the hype.
-
Maybe something along the lines of this poster
(http://rlv.zcache.com/your_country_needs_you_poster-p228334512527836453tdcp_400.jpg)
Using something like this image

I don't believe the floating voter you're trying to reach feels under any obligation to support the Rovers. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT / WE NEED YOU won't be a big incentive. Offer a positive reason to attend: It's good quality entertaining football and you'll enjoy it!
And the fact it's against Plymouth isn't an attraction. The attraction is Rovers brand of football. I wouldn't even promote an individual game. Just promote the football Rovers play and then the flyer won't go out of date either.

Snods. Love the Poster/Flyer.
Charlie Swallow at the Rovers used to give me a poster which advertised the next 6 home games and I put it up on the noticeboard at work.
Look guys, I know you have concerns about trademarks etc. but we're talking about a 'can do' attitude here.
Whats stopping me, or anyone, printing a few of these off and planting them on a few windscreens for instance ?
I Like the Kitchener idea as well with JRs face appealing to the Townsfolk. be nice if the club could get a couple of giant ones on billboards around the town.
-
Those flyers are a great idea. I deliver in & around Cantley every single day, I would be more than willing to them through the letterboxes.
-
I'm sorry but i don't think flyers or e-mails will help. The problem we have in getting people to watch games is access to tickets, the number of people who i've heard/spoken to admit that if they could buy tickets at say, the local supermarket they would go, but they won't travel to the ground because they are not going that way. Let's face it the people we are trying to attract are not regular fans,( because these people already make the effort), but new supporters, so unless someone is actually standing at a place where these people are sure to visit, and selling tickets then we are fighting a losing battle.
Now i know this is not possible, but a way could be found whereas the people buy tickets and get them sent out to there homes. We need to have selling booths in all the major supermarkets promoting offers and making buying a ticket as easy as possible. For the new supporter going to the Keepmoat is too much hassle.
Flyers will promote the games but the real problem is still getting people to buy the tickets.
Now i also understand that tickets can be bought over the internet, but again if someone was going to watch the Rovers this is ok, but it's the people who didn't expect to go, but went shopping and saw the Rovers booth and bought tickets on impulse. These are the people who will boost the attendance and hopefully keep coming to games.
-
Nothing wrong with that idea at all. My thought were to start a little smaller and simpler and then work up to an ever increasing presence.
My other point is that there is a massive proportion of the donny population who although support having a successful football team are waverers on wanting to actually support the team or not.
If every so often a leaflet drop is done to give people a reminder that we are here and that they would be foolish to not want to see a success story and see it happening along the way then there basically missing out.
If we don't try we'll never know if this will work the annoying thing is that the club don't ever to even consider such an idea and so to go and think out side the box and carry out your suggestion we want to prove that:
1) The vsc and fans alike are a massive commodity to take advantage of and help spread the name and build the hype
2) this could just the beginning of advertising ideas with more people involved alongside the club and an breadth of talent for free

I'd say there are around just under 30,000 people who feel an association with Donny Rovers based on the Wembley attendance.
There will be a good number of those who no longer live in the Doncaster area who rarely get to games. You won't reach them.
There will be quite a few who go now and again and then there are those who only go to big games. I reckon there might be 5-10,000 of them tops. The rest just went because it was a big day out at Wembley. It sounds a lot but given the size of the population of the borough it's only a small proportion. There isn't really a massive proportion of the donny population who are waverers.
It's not fair to say the club don't consider these things either. I notice they've been advertising ticket deals on the big screens in the Frenchgate for instance. That's a really good medium and a good promotion.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for finding was to boost the attendances at the Keepmoat but for me this is only going to meet with very limited success.
-
What you really need to do is reach people who like football but who haven't definitely decided which football club they support. That would be kids.
If 15% of the population of the Doncaster borough are at school I reckon that's a pool of around 45,000 to go at. To fill the stadium you only need something like another 5% more of them to decide they actively support Rovers, not all will go to every game but on the plus side most will go with a parents.
So what could we do to make the Rovers appeal more to the kids?

I've read a few of the suggestions and changed the text a bit, but don't have the time to do much else at the moment. I will have a look at other ideas when/if I have the time.
If any of the facts are wrong let me know.
Ticket sales for Saturday are presently 7249.
If anyone wants to take up the reigns and distribute this via whatever means...facebook, email, forum boards, notice boards at work etc etc, maybe we could do this on a regular basis.
Would be nice to have a bit of feedback to know what people have done to distribute it.
Get busy (or not) ladies and gents...

Snods
Bring the headline up bigger and bolder.
Bring the size of the club badges down. Plymouth Argyle aren't a big draw give the name Doncaster Rovers larger billing.
I'd lose the Coca Cola branding to be on the safe side.

Forget about Coca Cola. If they want to slap my wrist I'm more than happy to apologise.
Now River Don, over to you.
I expect you to post in detail later today, the great lengths you have gone to, to distribute the flyer.
Deal?

I'll do all I can Snod but I don't think it's going to attract very much interest in the Wimbledon area...

Sorry fella, I'd completely missed this thread. Superb respponses, and I think a flyer drop could work.
A chap at work is organising a CAMRA event, and he got 2500 flyers printed in Germany for about £40. The quality is superb, and the same number done locally was quoted at around £120. I'll have a chat with the club and Gareth about the viability of doing something like this (obviously the Plymouth game is short notice so how about for the Scunny game? - Ernie, any chance of knocking something up on the same likes as the one above?).
I'm sure the VSC could stump up the funds to get the flyers printed, so it would only require the army of voluntees to knock a hundred or so through doors each in their neighbourhoods.
Over to you lot to volunteer, guys!
-
Good positive thread :scarf:
Got my creative juices going.
Now all we got to do is distibute it some how (changes are also possible / easy)
-
Duck me! Uploading the 'kin thing took longer than doing it!

Hi Fuzzy, good to see you've joined us from the 'dark side'.
I still keep an eye on 606 but boy there's some on there really wind me up, (and that's only the Rovers fans)
Can't get your link to work, any suggestions?

That's a Zip file, it should download to you as a zip, you then unzip it and its fine (but I'm sure you no that.
I still post on 606....I've just come on here cos....well...its Rovers isn't it!!! :scarf:
No disrespect....but who are you? :S

Try that :S

I've posted on there under a couple of different names, changed it to KeepmoatClaxon recently when the beeb altered the application and had us all recreate our accounts.
Don't post much on there any more, find it gets a bit unseemly between posters for my liking.

we should stick that in every shop window, haha.
-
Knocking on doors is a way to do it, but can be onerous. Also, hours may be spent and you may only reach 100 or so people
Target areas that are more People orientated where you can hit 100 or so in one go ie where many sit or stand about and look for things to get their attention:
Doctors, Dentists, School gates, School classroom doors, libraries, shops, supermarkets, buses with permission, bus stops????(might be illegal) etc etc etc
-
Right, I've spoken with Gareth about this, and we are doing it. I've got the printing costs and the VSC are happy to fund 2,500 flyers.
SnodsShinpad : Can you do a new one to promote the WBA and Scunny games please. Delivery times are too tight for the Plymouth game.
Everyone else : Can you please let me know if you are able to deliver a share of these to addresses in your neighbourhood. If we get 25 people, it will be 100 each to deliver, 50 people means 50 each, etc. If it brings another 50 fans through the turnstiles, thats around a grand to the club. Please say \"aye\" below if you can help with the delivery, even if its only a handful.
Lets prove that fan power can make a difference.
-
RobTheRover wrote:

Yes, absolutely. I'll send you a PM about it sometime later today/tonight when I have a bit more time.
It would be good if we could have say a reference number offer on the flyer entitling the person to claim say a 10% discount (or something) when they buy the ticket, so then we could see exactly how many people have bought a ticket as a result of the flyer. I know that would be a headache sorting with the club and ticket office and would maybe impossible to organise though. Maybe there are other ways of doing it?
-
I've suggested a fiver discount with the flyer, but I dont think it will happen. Demand for the last 2 home games will be reasonably high already.
-
Keep up the awesome work everyone! I'd be happy to hand out in my local area, although I feel the majority of Grimethorpe residents can't read, and the remainder probably support the Dingles anyway
It's such a shame nothing seems to ever get organised this well by our fabulous media department at the club...
:scarf:
-
Snod, I don't know if you're used to the business of setting stuff up for professional print but if you're not it'll be worth asking them to send a specification to work to. For instance it's better if you're images are large, ideally 300 dpi.
If you need any advice PM me.
-
Count me in Rob, I can distribute in Cantley, Thorne & Moorends.
-
I'll happily do my share too. Cusworth, Scawsby and Sprotborough, altho' I know there's a few of us based in my neck of the words. If we hit Cusworth en masse, i'll do top end near the Hall - Kempton Road, St Giles etc.
-
Rob - can you pm me the print prices you've got? I have a print franchise so should be able to beat most prices
snods - don't wanna tell you how to suck eggs but set your document up with a 5 mm bleed and 3 mm text inset and you should be fine.
-
I can do a bit around Balby.
I know a newsagent who will be happy to get one of his paperboys to put them through doors as well.
I would love to see a giant 'Sexy Football' poster, pasted to the side of the KM 'Get your 2010/11 season ticket now'
Irrespective of the potential attendance for the last 2 home games, why not offer a discount anyway !? First come first served !!
-
Thanks to all who have volunteered so far. Need a few more to come out of the woodwork, especially for the north east and south of the Borough.
-
I'll take a couple of hundred for Woody Plantation and Balby, Rob.
-
Brilliant
Any more for any more?
-
Well seeing as i started this topic, its a little hypacritical of me not to volunteer, so although i live in Sheff now send me a load and i will go around Hatfield when i'm next home. I'll go to the newsagents and the local pubs as well as going around the estates.
I'm over the moon with the positive reaction from the majority of everyone though and hope that this truly is the beginning of a new approach by ourselves and the club. there are some people on here who have said that this won't work and yes they may be right, however:
1) if we don't try we'll never know
2) this is just the beginning, i have no doubt that there are many other people out there who have many valid ideas such as this which canbe put into action. it is only when every one comes together like this that things start to happen. with the support of people like rob, nathan and gartom as well of course.
3) if the club realise that this is a viable option, they will then take it on and carry it through from now on with ourselves as volunteers and hopefully we'll all reap the benefits with a better support base
Not sure alot of you know me but i live in sheff and see alot of what the weeds and blunts do. the most recent one that has come to mind is a massive advertisement hoarding up alongside the trainstaion by the blunts advertising themselves. this is seen by thousands of people every day, either in the city, visiting or travelling through how simple and even easier would that be for rovers?
just another idea anyway
I'll send you my details in an e-mail to you Rob for you to send the flyers out
Finally thanks to those who have come together to support this idea and the vsc for making it happen and i look forward to seeing this work (hopefully) and other ideas and supporters come out of the woodwork with how they think we can show Ryan and the directors that our club is unique in the way we supporters get behined them in this way and that were moving onwards and upwards together
-
Is this still a goer! Looks like being a massive game for Scunny? we need to drum up a few more 'your going down with the Wednesday' voices ;)
-
Just to bring things up to date, SnodsShinpad has rejigged the design and its now off to the printers. Should be back midweek next week, so 10 days or so to distribute before the Scunny game.
More volunteers required. Add you names below if you can spare an hour in your local area.
-
Bump.
Looks like we had under 9000 home fans there today.
If you can spare the time to hand out flyers, let us know...
