I don't really like it, I think people know which side of there ground there on why sing for it instead of singing for players? (not criticizing not getting behind players yesterday, our support was top notch!)

I remember singing thr right side/left side song in the 70's, usually when the match got a bit boring or there were no away fans to have 'banter' with.

the left side/right side song may be boring, but it does the job. i think it was used to very good effect at the sheff wednesday away game, as after a couple of rounds of left side/right side we then got \"left side, give us a song, left side left side give us a song\"....creating a chant for the players and the team, and then likewise from the right side. it kept the atmosphere going through most of the game :)

If this thread is turning into criticising or praising songs, then I can't understand why our fans continue to sing \"We're just a pub team having a laugh\".

Five years ago when we were enjoying success and had just been promoted to League One, I understood it then as we were still playing at Belle Vue and derided by most bigger clubs as just a silly pub team. However, now we're the pass-masters of the Championship, have earned plaudits and respect from all over the country and play in a great 15,000 seater stadium that puts some stadia to shame in this division.

Without getting big-headed or anything, the pub team mentality is a really small time attitude and a bit disrespectful to the quality players we have playing for us. Perhaps the people who sing it are the same people who would be overwhelmed by the prospect of reaching the Premier League?

i think i mentioned in another thread some people probably find it a term of endearment rather than an insult to the club. yes we are good at what we do, yes we play in a nice stadium etc etc, BUT, we are still looked down upon as small-time by a lot of clubs, and we are still an irritant to the bigger ones. you are right that a lot of the time we get plaudits from all over the place, but we also hear that old pearler \"we made them look good\" quite a bit aswell. the way the commentators from newcastle were talking about us on their version of football heaven after the away fixture it was like we didnt deserve to be gracing the turf of St James'.

Either way, I dont see the pub team having a laugh chant as a bad thing, I personally find it funny and ironic, but each to their own :)

It the piss take of all piss takes the pub team song especially when we are winning and running rings around the \"bigger\" clubs. Keep singing it I certainly will be.

I'm a fan of the pub team song too. When the big-time charlies strat singing \"Who the f**king hell are you\" and we reply with a pub team song they can't have a come-back.

It also reminds folk to keep their feet on the ground and stay positive rather than moaning about a narrow defeat against the likes of Newcastle.

Love the pub team song.  Was great to hear the SOuth stand bellowing it out against the Blades last week and again at Barnsley.  Imagine 25000 of us singing that at Wembley.  We can dream eh?

How about trying to get the SSBA to start the chant.....

Top team in Yorkshire
We are the top team in Yorkshire
Top team in Yorkshire
We are the top team in Yorkshire

Due to the fact that we are.

And don't anybody start with the Hull City thing, if they don't even consider they are in Yorkshire, why the hell should we.

I see both sides of the pub team argument.

There are some aspects about us that still smack of \"small club mentality\".
Our media dept. for instance, DROS is poorly used, Player content is poor compared with other clubs, our commentary team is poor.  Does the pub team song have anything to do with this mentality?  I can see it to an extent.

But I think it's outweighed by the sheer irony of it all.  That's why I used it in the video I made.

I don't know about that. Some folk still aren't even clued up on where we play (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/championship/7506105/Doncaster-Rovers-0-Newcastle-United-1-match-report.html)

Going back to the subject. Personally I really like the 'pub team' based chants. It doesn't mock us, but rather mocks the attitude displayed by other clubs towards us and as Mike says, its a good comeback to opposition chants.

Similarly I'd like to see us belting out this next time we're in front against one of these supposed 'bigger' clubs
