Title: Rovers youth
Post by: I-was-there1976 on April 08, 2010, 06:19:23 pm
Is this a waste of time and money?

York City are the latest team to beat them FFS. Isnt it about time that the scouting system has picked up better players than what York City can gather together ?

Not looked at all their results because it would probably be bad reading but i checked the Grimsby game and hey ho another defeat.

Anyone ever seen them play ? Is the standard more Sunday League 50 year olds after 20 pints or are the youth players at York world beaters ?

why is it a waste of time, you cant find quality players all the time but every now and then a gem comes up and so what if they get beat its all to do with learning the game hmmm now lets start slating the youngsters off

sorry boys i must have got my \"should be beating teams like these \" head on.

I just think we SHOULD be beating youth teams from York and Grimsby and if not can we pinch their youths for the future.

Wish i was a boy , but an old man who realises rome wasnt built in a day and will take many yrs for the youth team to start developing good players, just how many youth players are in this country and how many make it to the proffesional career and not forgetting the teams around here have already poached the youngsters as we are still slowly building and will take a long time till we get to the days of the team that made the youth cup final.

It's an age old dilemna and I remember when I was a kid many years ago playing for my school in all the mining villages around Donny whether I would ever be spotted by a Rovers' scout . Leeds, And the two Sheffield clubs seemed to be present at most games as were Wolves who had a terrific scouting network in South Yorkshire in the early 1960's. In the end I took the initiative and went down to Belle Vue and asked for a trial myself , then played two seasons for the Juniors in the Northern Intermediate League.
In that league were Newcastle, Sunderland , Middelsboro , Leeds and yes Wolverhampton wanderers who were in every Junior league you could find .
Not until Billy Bremner arrived at Rovers did we have anything like a scouting system . He appointed Dave Blackey ( ex Leeds United scout) to find young potential and along came the likes of the Snodin brothers , Daryl Pugh, Mark Rankine ,Brian Deane, Granted they were not all discovered locally but Blackey sey up a network that provided him with the leads on young players .
It is not what scores the current youngsters are producing but rather the underlying system of scouting the club is developing that is at issue.
Perhaps the new Matchday magazine will reveal all such underlying mysteries!!??

why doesn't someone ask gartom to have a look into this and ask JR the current state of the academy system, how much is put into it and how good the scouting system is and whether we are stopping players rooting for the sheffield clubs or leeds etc.
