Title: S.O.D getting fed up?
Post by: grayx on April 12, 2010, 05:42:58 pm
According to todays Mirror, Doncaster face there biggest challenge trying to keep SOD as he becomes fed up making \"silk purses from sows ears\". \"We have some crucial decisions to take in the summer, we have to decide where we want this club to go & if we want to go to the next level\". Take the warning JR & Co & give him some spending money.

Did they interview SOD, or are they just making stuff up again :(

Its a real challenge for SOD here, so I cant see him getting fed up.

Very interesting statement by SOD.  Basically saying spend some money,I.e.billy sharp, shackell,  elliott ward for example. Show some ambition Ryan or you will lose your manager.

Oh yes, what a clever, considered remark - JR lacking ambition....dont be daft!
JR and SOD are trying to sort out next season as we speak - dont take these press extracts to heart - they dont know half of what we are about. Have faith...

PS - and you could spend some money and join the VSC to help us! Tee hee!

I read that article and its typical lazy journalism. Why would S'OD make comments to the Daily Mirror that he hasn't made to any of the other local media? He doesn't say he's fed up making silk purses out of a sow's ear, the Daily Mirror say that. Furthermore they say we need considerable investment to go to the next level and that we don't have that either, how the hell do they know what we have available?

I believe S'OD is enjoying the ride here as much as we are, and he must relish the chance of getting a club like DRFC into the play-off's, it would cement his reputation for all time, unlike a failure at a poor performing Premiership club would, i.e. Burnley and Mr Laws.

SOD hates talking to the media. I'm guessing he doesn't do any interviews other than BBC, Rovers Player and Sky on the odd occasion. b*llocks from The Mirror I think.

O'Driscoll has also said several times that he does not expect the board to spend money that they can't afford to spend. I think he has more respect for us and the club to put them in a position where we would have to risk or long term financial future in order to keep him.

I agree O' silent one.

SOD knows his work here isnt done, and JR's adventure isnt over either.  This closed season is going to be very interesting.

What worries me is drfc say we will not spend money we have not got. So how can they possibly afford the players like billy that will take us to the next level which is ryans dream. To get these players we are surely going to have to speculate. I cannot see us winning a bidding war with billy. Don't forget one of the main reasons we reached 8th was because of the influence of billy and we will need his or similar influence next season.

Maybe the money has been put in place.  Does anyone really think players like Sharp, Shackell will be wanting to leave.  They've seen what effect SOD has had on them.  Also interesting to note how happy JET looks here.  I'd certainly get him signed up for next season, it'd suit us, him and Arsenal.

There's a lot to come over the summer.  I expect some money to be spent, someone to be sold and some bargains to be found.  It wouldn't surprise me to see Stock sold to fund other transfers for example.

Completely agree with this Chris, I think anyone who has observed the way Sean goes about his business, knows this to be true.

And DonnyGeoff, 'making silk purses out of sows' ears', do you really think that Sean would be so disrespectful as to make such a remark about anybody, let alone his own players?

Mmm,

Sounds like we could be in for some 'Mouth Watering' signings over the summer months.

Sorry Gareth, couldn't resist

My little lips are already producing extra saliva at the very thought of next season, and the close season 'opportunities' coming our way !

All or nothing I fancy, given that if you get into premiership, the club pays for itself for several seasons.

The parachute payments are also likely to be increased means unless we speculate we will certainly lose SOD and fall back down the leagues

Purchasing Elliot, Sharp and Shackwell would be like buying property, insure them well you cannot lose!

I honestly think the teams coming down will be nothing special given Portsmouth will have to sell everyone,Hull are likely to collapse and Burnley are very average.

I also think it is going to be pivotal in determining our mindset, ambitions and desires. We have proven we can hold it at this level, this indicates to me that it is now time to start taking the recruitment to the next level in terms of financial outlay to get the better quality players. Small steps of course, not a big all in one gamble!

I honestly believe that to recruit Billy and Shackell/Ward on a permanent basis would be the desired next step. Add to that tying Oster down to a longer stay and this would give us a solid grounding for next season without perhaps going too silly with money. This can then be added to with more quality loans and we could have a great season next year.

It's an exciting time waiting to see the intentions of the club and where we could end up.

Renew those season tickets boys and girls and hold on tight, the ride is about to really begin...!

It's like last pre-season all over again... surely the lessons from last summer were to NOT build up the hype and then fail to deliver (for whatever justified or unforseen reason)?

I think I will have to avoid this forum this pre season. My refrech button can't handle another summer like last year!

Couldn't agree more with that quote, especially Billy, if we could buy him for the prices mentioned it would be the bargain of the century! I could see him being worth 4x that in a couple of seasons, especially at his age! (Not that we should be buying to sell). It is not often that clubs are willing to let talent like Billy Sharp go on the cheap, so we need to take the opportunity!

What worries me is what happens if we don't sign Billy… it would be interesting to know where we would be in the table if you took away the points that Billy has earned us this season!

  You just have to love the guy.  He doesn't show much emotion and I like that in him, he's just a genuine bloke doing a job and doesn't have to be a star.

If SOD is that fed up on the lack of investment at DRFC after 3 short years.....just remind me how long he tolerated the selling culture at Bournemouth????? ........and was in no hurry to leave... JR had to talk him up here!

And remember, John targetted him on 2 fronts - 1#0 the style of football, and 2) the fact his team constantly punched above their collective weight.

I'd say that brief is more relevant this coming season than ever.

I don't think it's entirely true that Sean hasn't been backed.

He was certainly backed in L1 after seeing what it was all about.

Granted, we lost a few prize assets last summer. I suppose that is a form of not being backed.

We have brought in names like Martis, Oster, Deano plus a few others. We have also brought in via the loan market, but still a cost involved, Billy, Shack, JET, Ward.

I think we are going in the right direction for the higher echelons of the CCC world. If you look at the 7 names above...it shows you the type of player that is now coming in/needed and hopefully where we are going.

i suppose it is a sign of progress that we concentrate on the players coming in rather than those going out

i think we will have an overall smaller squad than last year but more quality and that is going to be how we get \"bigger\" stars in  by fewer but higher wages

i am glad that ward is getting mentioned i would like to see him here at DRFC not only a top class centre half but able to sit in front of the back four in  a holding role   another versatile player
