Title: Who's got the oldest Rovers replica shirt?
Post by: Wokingviking on April 16, 2010, 02:06:28 pm
RTR's post that said half his U7's team wear Rovers shirts (great news btw) prompted me to wonder when Rovers replica shirts were first available?

The first one I had was a 75/76 one (white stripes down the arms) that I got from Ray Harrison's on East Laith Gate.  That was a proper sports shop, where the window would be full of footy/hockey etc in the winter and cricket/tennis etc in the summer, and where you could order any sports equipment you wanted - unlike Mike Ashley's crappy \"clothes shops\".  Ray himself used to serve you and he was a really nice gentle bloke - unlike his fearsome reputation as a centre-forward in the 50's.  He was a real local hero having played (I think) through nearly all eight seasons of the 2nd division days (anyone confirm?).

Anyway, I do remember seeing one shirt from the 72-75 period, but none before that.  Replica shirts weren't really the thing then, so I never wore mine at a match and I suspect others didn't either.

Sad thing is, I never kept that shirt.

I'm not sure but when replica kits were rare as rocking horse muck when I was a kid, you could get the early 70s kit. The white top with two red hoops across the chest, red shorts and white socks.

That's the one I saw DBR, but I don't remember seeing any earlier ones.  On the programme cover it had a badge in between the two hoops, but somehow the badge never made it onto the real kit!

I have the Rovers \"Replica\" kit (from TOFFS) 1946/47 season. Won it on talksport \"the answer is Ipswich\" about 7 years ago, does that count?! :scarf:

Mid 90's for me - the very dark red Doncaster Star sponsored one. Not that I could fit into it now obviously...!

Got a fair few that get an outing from time to time. Only one I cant wear is the white one from the second conference season - hot tight was the neck on it?!
