I'm voting for the Icelandic Volcano Party. It's done more to stop immigration in the last 5 days than Labour has done in the last 10 years!!

Actually, I'm in favaour of immigration.
It revitalises. It offers new ideas. It shows new ways. It even brings in second and third generation Tory Cabinet Ministers. It offsets the emigration that folk hapr on about. It helps to create the world view that is the absolutely inevitable end of the trends we see all around us today. being anti immigration is a Luddite point of view.
Cheers

As this started as a joke thread, I'll treat your reply as a joke.

Nope.
I'm a humanist. I think it's important. if you don't, that's your privilege. But an intelligent glance at the world around will show, conclusively, that the future is so intertwined and enmeshed with almost every other nation on this planet that sitting back living in little England is simply not a wise move at all. Don't worry though. Wogs always did begin at Calais.

I agree with Bob, the backbone of the country was built on immigration from the vikings to the irish to the west indians and indians that came over this century. The view that all immigration should be stopped is a very bad thing. Living in Germany I can see the Turkish community that help rebuild germany after we bombed it flat, that is very integrated into the community and while there are still problems in some areas it has worked for the country.

I lived in Berlin for 3 years in the 1970's and the Turkish community then was regarded as a very low class 'Gastarbeiter'.
The Berliners looked down on the Turks and the Turks lived in very poor conditions.
They took any menial job they could find that the Berliners would not lower themselves to do. Seems like times have indeed changed.

They are my sentiments too, immigration isn't the problem but as always when there are financial problems in a country , immigrants are usually singled out as the reason.
Germany and Russia are the two most obvious examples of this 'knee-jerk' reaction in recent history.
Unfortunately I think this is human nature, tribal perhaps but this happens in most societies.
Will we be able to eradicate it ? I doubt it very much, it is too embedded in most societies but it never makes it the right thing . :( :( :(

Gosh! I really did think I'd be in a minority of one on this. Once again I have underestimated the wisdom and thoughtfulness of some. Sorry lads. :)
Mind you, on reflection, if we had banned immigration, we'd have been spared that arsehole Tory Home Secretary of 10-12 years back wouldn't we? And Portillo too!
