Title: SOD on Football Heaven
Post by: The L J Monk on April 23, 2010, 06:31:39 pm
Interesting interview tonight with SOD.

Contracts won't be sorted until he hears from the board on budget. Expected to hear a month ago, but no word yet. Says he's not frustrated by this and accepts it's the way finance and football are now. Difficult to make decisions until it's resolved. Tentative discussions have taken place with those he wants to stay, but nothing formal.

Rest assured that JR is on the case, he is putting funds in place and is actively looking to strengthen the squad. I dont think we will be found wanting come the new season.....
Cheers,
Gareth

If ever SOD decided to get a job away from football he would be fantastic in the diplomatic corps.

Nobby please tell us who this new player is? Shackwell? who does he play for? Have we been watching him or has he been playing abroad?

Hmmm. Hope this is the case & we're not slow off the mark snapping up the quality players that become available. Couldn't stand a closed season like last years, reading lots of rumours, none coming to fruition.

I'd rather have Billy than Hooper. They reckon Hooper is worth over a million now, so will be signing his new contract with a similar wage to Billy.

PS How do Scunny find these gems?

Because they give talented footballers who are either A) are not getting enough football at bigger clubs or B) are competently plying their trade at a lower level a chance.

When was the last time we took a chance on a striker like that?

Strangely enough Waide Fairhurst for me could be our Gary Hooper, but will he ever get a real shot at regular football?

We were rumoured to be after Hooper at the same time as Scunny I remember that.

Gary Hooper is a very strange case. Did f*** all at Southend (quick look at Wiki tells me 2 goals in 32 appearances), I'm pretty sure if we took a chance on someone like that the knives would be sharpened immediately. Unquestionably got an excellent record at Scunny though.

From what I have seen of Fairhurst, I too think that he will be a great player for us given more of a chance.  He has the makings of being a Billy Sharp with a little more experience and physical strength, which will both come over the next couple of years, hopefully.
