I know a fair few Rovers and Dingles fans that are going just for the laugh. A relegation Cup Final doesn't come around every day of the week! :laugh:

I dont mind Palace or Wednesday, would prefer Wednesday for ease of going, tho would be fun winding a few up, i might go the stn early sun morn and wave the Donny Owls off, they are going early, dutch courage required.

I remember (Many years ago) going to Hillsborough with a Wednesday ST holder to watch a last game of the season must win game for the Owls to stay up .... it was one of the worst games I have seen (but then I had no personal commitment), but the atmosphere was just so tense, and then a guy called Ken Knighton scored with a few minutes to go to put Wednesday 1-0 up and as it turned out secure their stay in that league.
The emotion flowing at the final whistle that day was a joy to watch.
I don't care who you are a fan of - if you love your team you can identify with the best and the worst of emotions for all of our felow/rival fans - even Manchester have known despair - they failed to win a trophy in 1995!
So I wish the respective fans of their teams all the best - because the game will probably be forgettable but the occasion memorable (one way or the other)

probably for the same reason some blades fans have given for going, because they basically cant be arsed making a long away trip for a nothing game when they could go down the road and watch a relegation dogfight.

Fairly sure they sold out some of the big cup games in the 80's - went to one v Liverpool which was rammed on the Kop (pre-roof/seating, although in those days matches weren't all ticket so they just kept on squeezing more in !

Just because we don't sell out our stadium, does not mean we cannot highlight the fact that such a \"big club\" as wednesday never fill theirs! :blink:

Rigo. Wensdeh had 39,500 for a home match against Man Utd in 1998. The ground has scarcely changed since then so I'm guessing the capacity back then was about the same as today - 39,800. That sounds like a sell out to me.
I have many reasons for disliking them, but they are a very big club in terms of support - historical, present day and potential. Remember that Hillsborough still holds the record for the highest ever Tier 3 attendance - 49,000 in the Sheffield Derby in 79.
Last one. We gave NEVER been a division higher than Sheffield Weds. The first time they dropped into Tier 3 in their history was in the 70s. Since we have never been in Tier 1, and were floundering when they first dropped onto Tier 3, we've never been above them. The best we have been relative to them was to be in Tier 2 at the same time as them (47-8, 51-2, and the last two seasons) and in Tier 3 with them (04-05).

And it all links!... I think the highest attendance in tier 3 was for Villa around '71 when they played... wait for it... Bournemouth. I think they had 50-odd thou at Villa Park but I may be dreaming. And did Ted MacDougall score a hat-trick for the Cherries or am I completely mixed up?

If you take all the current PL and FL teams and rank them in order of highest ever home attendace, where would we come in the list?
Interestingly, in that list, there is not a single club above us whose highest attendance was in a Tier 3 match, like ours was. Everyone above us had their high point in a Tier 1 or 2, or FA Cup match.
