Title: Players who appeared for Rovers in Friendlies...
Post by: DonnyBazR0ver on April 29, 2010, 12:21:25 am
but never played for Rovers in a competitive match ?

I think Paul Gasgoine was one.(might have been a testimonial)

More recently, I watched a friendly at Belle Vue and triallists were Guy Ipoua, Adrian Littlejohn and Derek Asamoah.

Guess who we signed !!

Surely a French player wouldn't need a work permit. EU single market and all that

Rob, it was Issoumala Diao (I think that's the correct spelling). He's probably locked in an asylum somewhere gnawing on raw steak right now.

Didn't we need a work permit for Mark Wilson when he joined us as he'd been playing in the US?

Not had the brilliant BarryEvans on here for a bit. I'm sure he was leading a rescue party to scour the 4 corners of the Earth to find Dao, tame him and hopefully bring him back.

He'd had a few tips on his whereabouts:

1 Rumour of a male who wrestles Crocodiles in the Serengeti.
2 Rumour of a male who bare knuckle fights Grizzly Bears in a remote part of Southern Canada.

We could do with an update from Barry.

No it's international clearance from FIFA to ratify the transfer in that case.

I think the answer would be- literally hundreds! Some would be fringe players who never got as far as the first team (in recent times Andrew Boyce and Ben Saunders spring to mind.) Others would be trialists- of whom the most recent was the Barrow striker, Jason Walker.

By and large, that was the main reason why I never fully warmed to McCammon.

Mark didn't think much of you either. He said you were gormless and lacking in moral fibre. His words not mine.

Best played for a representative eleven against Liverpool at Belle Vue for John Nicholson's memorial match in the 60's.

Was it Ian Atkins who signed striker Darren Roberts from wolves during close season and Roberts left ad started never even playing before the season had started never even playing a friendly for us. Anyone remember?

Also does anybody know how many times or how many minutes Hakan Heyrettin actually played for us?

I fully shared Barryevans opinion at the time that Dao was (and still is) just what we need in the middle of the park. He could have been a legend here from the fleeting glance we got.

He was solid, looked a quality player. Jason Walker was a player which I was surprised we didn't snap up, had some decent attributes - good bench player.

Does Bubolovic count? Saw him at Parkgate.

Didn't Darren Roberts leave cos Atkins left, was it the same time as Brabin and Parrish signed for us?

Who can forget Weaver's leaving gift of Sam Daho or whatever he was called.

Loads must have played that first season in conference when Snodin was assembling his squad

I remember Aaron Brown.

Whoever said Ipoua didn't play for us must not have seen his 30 yard all out jog at Luton
