Classic telly moment. Camera at the Snooker just panned onto Dickie Bird in the audience at the precise moment that he looked down at his watch, closed his eyes, screwed his face up and muttered summat under his breath.
Stay tuned to see him start roaring when he realises he's missed the last bus back to ' Tarn.

I know how he feels. I wish they'd stop fannying about and finish this match. Some of us are waiting to watch the documentary on the '85 final.

Bring back Mountjoy and Thorburn. At least they had the decency to look ridiculous as they bored us to tears.
About the '85 final, I was having a chat with a bloke who is good mates with a certain player who won at the Crucible once, but who wasn't connected to the '85 final. Anyway, he swears blind that final was 'not as it seemed' if you catch my drift.

Can't believe anything untoward went on personally but I'm curious as to what your mate said. Can you give any more info?
-
The final is ridiculous. If I was a player and had to pull back multiple frames, I would give up the ghost.
You'd feel a right Kitson pulling it back and keeping everyone in their seats until the crack of dawn

Can't really add much to the above as he didn't go into any great detail. He seemed convinced anyway (he was pretty angry when talking about it). I haven't watched the match since it was played all those years ago, so I've no idea if it smelt dodgy or not. It's a bit of a 'bloke down the pub' story, but I was intrigued anyway, basically because it was such an iconic match and the fact that he knows a player or two.

Shame the Sven streaker was not around to liven things up. ;)

I know a guy from Sheffield who used to clean the toilets at The Crucible.
He's told me the tale of how Fred Davies used to bash a line into him at every interval in the Crucible toilets.
How Eddie Charlton and Tony Knowles were once caught holding each others tails in the Crucible toilets.
How Thorburn, Stevens were once dressed as Mounties and were tag teaming Bill Werbenuik in the Crucible toilets.
How Perry Manns once cleared the colours by hiding them up his bum, all in the Crucible toilets.
Those toilets have many a tale to tell.
