Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll has today announced the players that will not be offered a new contract with the football club.
The Rovers manager has not offered new deals to six players out of contract, with strikers Paul Heffernan and Lewis Guy, defenders Sean McDaid and Charles Fisher, midfielder John Spicer and goalkeeper Ben Smith told that they are free to find another club.
-
Everybody associated with Doncaster Rovers would like to deeply thank each and every player for the part they have played in the Rovers progress over their years at the football club and wishes every player the best of luck in the next stage of their footballing careers.
Mark Wilson, Gareth Roberts, Neil Sullivan, Mustapha Dumbuya, James Hayter, Adam Lockwood, John Oster, Robbie Clark, Waide Fairhurst and Gary Woods have all been offered new deals at the Club and negotiations are now ongoing.
-
No big surprises there. Question now is who accepts the offer and who doesn't.
-
Shame to see McDaid go, never got a chance since returning from injury. I think he could of done well for us.
-
Delighted Roberts, Fairhurst and Oster have been offered new deals.
Thanks Heffs, and Smith (I won't forget that night at Grimsby) and I suppose there will be many thinking thank f*** he's got rid of Guy! I'll be diplomatic and say it's a good move all round B)

only surprise is the retention/offer to adam lockwood
i thought that sam hird was only on a 2 year deal signed in 08
and that woods was on 3 year deal
obviously behind the times :silly:

If Locky accepts then we will have four centre halves at the club, will we go for Shackell or rely on loaning another one again.?
-
Agree with pretty much all of it. Good luck to those leaving. I can see why Lockwood is staying. When he's come on as sub we've looked more assured. He's a commanding centre half, strong in the air and in that respect I feel he's something we need.
Let's see who stays and goes.
-
Im surprised people did'nt think we would offer Locky a new deal.He is perfect cover for the first team centre halves and has the added advantage for SOD when he tactically wants more height in defense and using him instead of hird.Because he is still with us and seemly happy to be a squad/bench warmer/squad rotation/tactical reserve player(whatever you want to call it) and will be more likely to be on a comparatively modest wage than others he is a great option to keep.Think about it,if we release him and get shacks to pair with Martis n Hird, who would you bring in for cover these three?Someone like Ward?Who would be alot more expensive(wages wise) especially if its mainly for cover. For me its ideal to keep Lockwood.Although we hopefully are stepping up the quality of the first team and therefore raising the wage bill a bit we must not forget we are still a comparative small club in financially tough times and must keep a tight reign.
-
Lockwood's club captain and a good guy to have in the squad. He was good when he got the chance this season, he would've played more if not for injuries and IMO he is slightly better than Hird. If we go into next season with Shackell/Ward, Martis, Hird, Lockwood and Webster we are more than set in that department.
Delighted to see new deals on the table for all those given them-it shows that the manager has faith in Fairhurst, Dumbuya, Clarke and Woods if he is willing to offer the youngsters new deals, especially as Fisher has been shown the door.
-
I am Particularly delighted at the news that John Oster and Mark Wilson have both been offered contracts, with the constant switching of Dean Shiels and Coppinger, Spicer, woods, Mutch, Stock, Gillet and even Sam Hird making his appearence in midfield, I have to say that Wilson and Oster have been rock solid for us all season, they have played most games this season, I know Wilson is known for some 'slack' work but if he was that much of a weak link, would we have had such a great season? Its no secret that with our passing football you cant just rely on a striker like Billy Sharp to do all the work, you need a good midfield behind him, and that is what Wilson and Oster have helped to provide all season, they only have a goal between them this season, but surely no one can say that Wilson isnt worthy of his new contract with us?

Don't you mean \"Release List\"? :S
-
Brooker isn't on the list. Assuming he had a contract of sorts, does this mean he still has a future with us?
-
Brooker has a year left anyway and he signed a 2 and a half year contract 1 and a half years ago. But hopefully he is fit pre season and shows what he can do.

I also thought Waide still had a year to run on his contract
The OS surely wouldn't have mixed up the two names
Samwaide Fairhird - sounds like a hobbit

Lol, both Sam Hird and Gareth Roberts signed 2 year deals on the same day just after we got promoted to the CCC.
