OK so it's the world cup this year which no doubt will consume most of us footballing types for the summer. it got me thinking though. How cool would it be to see rovers play a few games abroad in say Germany or holland? A week long tour to see the rovers on a european footing would make a fantastic trip.
has any rovers team ever conducted such a trip and if so when?

We went to Irland in the 1950s

The Rovers played in Rotterdam or Amsterdam in 1936 or so, against a Dutch X1 and lost 7-2. I wrote a piece about it in the programme's Memory Lane column circa 1985, entitled \"Rovers in Europe\". I can't find it right now, but one of the reasons given for the heavy defeat was because the players were sea sick after a rough ferry ride over to Holland!

What about Scarborough in the Minster Carpets Cup? And we won the bugger!

only way rovers would ever to get to go onto a tour of europe
would be if powers that be brought back national call up

Didn't we play a few teams in Scotland under Snodin?
