Just going for a pint in the Silver Link (that will get a few memories going)

It wont be long before our more knowledgeable fans publish the picture of Alick opening the Penny Farthing. Come to think of it why has nobody mentioned the Masquerade.

I used to have a newspaper cutting of Alick and John Nicholson opening the Penny Farthing nightclub, but alas it's been mislayed.
Anyone remember Beethams and Blue Bell?
Also the first Doncaster 'Theme Pub' Camelots which opened in the early 80's..Remember the Lasers? It were ME that used to operate them!
-
Beethams! Bloody hell. I remember it. Well, I think I do. Wasn't that the place with the dodgy reputation in the corner of Bowers Fold?
Alright: who on here knows the The Turf Tavern was? And indeed, still is, I think, though under another name? Used to be a good pint of Barnsley in there.
Cheers

Hi Bob, Beethams was situated thus......If you walked from clock corner towards the market (Ratners was on the left, Clock corner), continue along until what was Owen & Owens at the end of the block, then there was a gap........Beethams was to the right of that gap!
-
Bob .... Bowers Fold housed \"The Underground\" which became the \"Wellington Vaults\".
Beethams had an upstairs downstairs feel - upstairs \"normal\" downstairs for more 'substance' .... allegedly.
Time and Place anyone?

On a saturday night I always aimed for down stairs inside, but if I really liked the girl and wanted to show her a bit of class and respect, i'd keep it to just upstairs outside. If she was reciprocating then maybe i'd ave gone for upstairs inside, but i'd always push my luck and go for the old down stairs outside aproach.

The Time and Place became The Golden Arrow. It was owned or part owned by Jack Haigh's brother-in law, Cy Harrison from Balby. The Pennt Farthing, with 2 dance floors forming that shape was part of a group that had another in Sheffield.
After one midweek game against Wednesday about 68-69 a young Harry Rednapp was dancing on a table in there with his trousers round his ankles.
That couldn't happen now without a picture in the paper.

Retford Porter House was one of my favourites in the old punk days. On a tiny little stage seeing The Beat and Gang of Four was something else.

I used to go the Porterhouse for the Uprising events to see MZone, Stu Allen and the Alchemist.

If my memory serves me right I think I saw UB40 at Retford Porterhouse. We affectionately called it 'Slaughterhouse' after my partly deaf Grandma thought that is what I'd said when she asked me where we were going one night!
Anyone remember Cat's Cradle at Retford, or was it Cat's Whisker's? One of them was a nightclub in York. We used to watch the strippers at the Retford one....Or was that the Slaughterhouse?
I think I'm getting old!!! :(

Hacienda between Stainforth and Askern, always good for a brawl in there! :)

Aye, used to go there too. Now that was a good place to take a bird on a first date to make an impression. ;)

There has never quite been a place like the Yarboro for me! Especially on Bank Holidays. The Spread Eagle was a place where you could buy anything you wanted. Used to call in the Beethams on our circuit of the town on a Friday and Saturday night, never quite understood the attraction but was always top draw as I recall!
-
My first stag night was at Cat's Cradle - ended up in a brawl between off-duty police and locals (I'm told) - my mates were selling Dons Rugby League scratch cards to the lady performers! :)
