According to rumours and reports we want Dagenhams Danny Green and have scouts at the morecombe game. If it is true he hasn't done himself any harm, done great more or less plotting Morecombe's downfall by himself. If this is what to go by sign him up.

There are some great players in League 1 and 2. Mick McCarthy has got 2 teams promoted from the Championship after signing the cream of these 2 lower divisions.
I don't understand the problem some fans have on here regarding signing players we know little about. See the Kennedy thread. Its bizarre.
Have these people forgotten where the likes of Paul Green, Coppinger, Stock, Woods, Roberts and even Wellens etc... have come from. It certainly wasn't established championship clubs.
I would be more than happy, given our apparent budget, if we signed players like Green (Dagenham) and Kennedy (Rochdale) and threw in some loan signings with proven pedigree. Lets not forget that we signed Stock for £150,000 roughly and our manager has turned him into the sort of player we would crave but couldn't afford had he not already been here.

I agree 100% Paul.
It annoys me when people assume that fans want to see us spend millions on established players. Most people with a sense of realism acknowledge that we can't do that, but if there is one market we can possibly compete in then surely it is for up and coming players from the lower divisions.
I've been really pleased to see us getting linked with these players this summer, and I'll be even more pleased if we actually see some positive developments.

I totally agree, looking at the talent in the lower leagues show vision and also the problems with fees and wages decrease. His team mate Josh Scott was very impressive in that game aswell.
-
I agree, we need to be getting young and exciting talent from lower down. They'll have far more hunger than any random big name. Particularly good will be players who see us as a big step up just like Coppinger, Woods, McIndoe etc did. They saw it as a challenge and that's what we should be after.
-
Im happy with the lower league players we are been linked with but also think its important we bring in the odd experienced head too.
Surely its about time Chris Taylor was taken out of his Oldham comfort zone as well.
-
just signed him for doncaster on football manager
i offered 30k for him got accepted and offered him a 1,3k a week contract this was the last day of the transfer window though, just thought you needed to know :)
also im 3rd and living the dream :)

100% agree.
We can't afford to compete with lots of teams at this level, we just can't. So we have to look at other ways we can compete. Tom Kennedy looks a worthwhile bet, is young athletic and seems ambitious. If we sign him on say a 4 year contract get 3 good years out of him, and sell on for £3m, this is the business model we need to accept. Yes we will be disappointed to lose certain players every year, but thats life. We will always remain an attractive side to play for due to our playing style, but money counts.
This lad I've not seen much of until the weekend, but seemed decent, but it was only one game, he could be garbage in a game he needs to battle in, without scouts watching.
But if SOD says yes, that will do for me.

By the way, just out of interest, from which rumours and reports have we been said to have been scouting Danny Green? I'm not doubting it, just asking. I've seen a lot of clubs linked with him but not us.
-
I think we'd be better spending £1mil on four up and coming lower league players than throwing the lot at Billy Sharp. Peterbor' gained two promotions from doing just that and as was said above, Wolves also had some good lower league signings on their way up.
-
and peterboro are ...oh yes a lower league side
-
Good point Nudga, and one I have been saying since we reached the heights of Championship football, we should never forget where we came from and use our contacts there to get good players. It was never a bad strategy when we returned to the league, and it still applies.
-
if iam correct sheff utd are showing big interest in same player
as he seem to be well within their radar

More down to mis management than owt else, but you got my point, didn't you???

I agree on signing lower league players, the problem still remains where a fee is involved, unless you spot these young players and get in early you have plenty of other clubs chasing them.
Even players from League 1,2 and non league are going to command a fee, seeing as our top fee as been about £300k I think we will struggle to compete with other championship clubs.

Actually, Peterborough didnt follow their own model, and as a result the players they had started to believe they were bigger than they were. George Boyd wants his legs slapping like a naughty 5 year old, the mardy get.
