Title: New kit producer
Post by: WSBBA_Ben on May 25, 2010, 10:44:14 pm
I thought we'd speculate about the new kit and kit producer; take our minds off the fact that Barnsley have released all their high earners & become the playground bully.

With us joining the Joma Cup in Devon, does this point towards a move towards the Spanish kit supplier; Joma? It's got to be better than Carlotti; I actually thought that Rovers might rise the chavvy stakes and opt for Carbrini. (http://www.drfc-vsc.co.uk/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/Joma_Logo.png)

Could be something in it especially with all the problems surrounding Vandanel.

Hmmm, interesting idea.

Area all the other teams in the Joma Cup supplied by Joma?

Just did a quick bit of research but based on 09/10 kits there doesn't appear to be a correlation.

Orient - Puma
Accy - couldn't tell but didn't look like Joma
Shrews - ProStar
Rushden - Macron
Eastleigh - Errea

Haven't checked the Scottish teams.

I think Accrington are Joma, but that's only going from that William Hill advert with the random teams on it!

Yeh you could be right on that one actually, the Accy pic I found was an old one.

I imagine it would be an ideal opportunity for the Business Development Manager of Joma UK, to speak with representatives of the club to maybe thrash out a deal.

Especially taking into account the number of clubs currently supplied by Vandanel, jumping ship to other manufacturers. I'm sure the Vandanel situation has been noticed by other sportswear companies.

Does make you wonder though, Scunny have now got Nike (All be it though Just Sports Pro club on behalf of Nike), I understand the deal has to be right for the club, but we are now an established championship club, surely some of the more mainstream manufacturers are interested in the Rovers.

I dont think its a case of the sportswear company being interested in Rovers, more the other way round.

For example, Rovers might buy a replica shirt from Vandanel at £15 and sell it for £39.99, whereas a Nike one might be £20 to buy and they can only still sell at £39.99.  Thats a relative £5 loss based on last season's profitability for every shirt sold.

Its still not in \"Blue Monday\" territory as far as supply and demand gaffes go, but the bottom line is influenced by the supply price (which is relatively elastic) rather than the selling price (which is relatively inelastic).

I imagine Rovers would sell a lot more merchandise overall if it was say Nike branded though?

Although personally I wouldn't like to see Rovers in Nike.

Well i did like Charltons Joma kit and Joma is better than vandanel, however if i had to choose my prefered kit maker would be umbro. Umbro kits always look smart.

I personally would definitely buy more Rovers merchandise if it was a decent brand. I just can't bring myself to spend £40 on a replica shirt with the quality we have seen in the Carlotti/Vandanel era, I always wait til they have the end of season sale, buy it for £10/20 and wear that for the next year! However I pretty much always buy the England shirt on the release day as it is far superior quality and worth spending the extra cash on (although it is usually cheaper than a Rovers shirt!)

Plus it's not just the replica shirts, some of the merchandise in the Rovers shop is just terrible, and surely if it was Nike/Adidas/Umbro/Joma (which from what I have seen make really nice shirts) etc we would sell more of this?

If you want an England shirt try soccertriads.com. I got one with World Cup arm patch delivered for £19 and it's as good as the one I paid £40 for in JD.

The material is the same, the badges/embroidery is the same, the labels are the same.

I reckon they make em in the factory when the gaffer's gone home for the night!

For £19 you cannot lose.

If it is going to be Nike, then following the hoops theme its going to follow the Celtic template I'd assumed.

They have white shorts, but I suppose that would be up for debate, colour wise.

Edit to say the pattern is based on 1888, the year they were formed, so may that would probably skipped.
