Title: Why dont we look at getting a lower league striker
Post by: donvicks on June 06, 2010, 11:35:17 pm
If we don't get Sharp then we could have a punt on getting a decent striker from league one or league 2.
Le Fondre from Rotherham or Lee Hughes from Notts County just to name 2. I also think rhodes from Udders would fit into SOD's style of play and wouldnt cost too much.
Im just thinking if our budget is less than a million then maybe we need to look at decent strikers from the lower leagues or an unearthed gem trialist from another country.
This is of course if we dont get Billy we have to think realistically of what we can get for around the 600k mark.
I heard the budget is around the 1.4m mark and to blow that on one player is silly.

Anyone else want to throw some realistic names into the hat if Billy doesn't come.?

Becchio? Would jump at the chance to play for us. Don't think he has the talent to step up to our level though.

A discreet 150k into a Caymen Islands account seems to regularly do the trick. As I said though, we need a better quality of player.

i would have thought becchio would jump at the chance if sharp went to leeds and he got pushed onto the bench,
lambert from southampton would be another lower league player that might fit in.

I cant see Lambert going anywhere to be honest, Bernard maybe but Southampton will storm league one next season and he will want to be a part of that. Huddersfield went off the boil recently but they had some great strikers and I think Rhodes would be a good option with him being in a team that actually passes the ball.

There is obviously a big risk gambling on cheap transfers from the lower leagues. Luckily we have a talented management team who can pick out the unpolished diamonds when necessary.

James Hayter for example, has stepped up to Championship level after that fantastic winning goal in the Play Off Final that reduced the opposition fans to tears and destined them to a further 2 seasons in England's third tier. A bargain at only 200k, I'm sure you'd agree.

I'm sure SoD can pick up similar bargains if he sees one, but he would look for quality signings, instead of cheap journeymen players, like Billy Paynter for example.

Exactly Snods, SOD will be picking up players that have never had their name breathed on here before, and will change them into what he wants. That is what Dumbya, Fairhurst and Webster are becoming. The problem is the Football Manager computer game generation who want only names they know and accuse the club of no ambition if they do that. I hope we get Billy just as much as anybody else, but if we get three lower league/Scottish/Eastern European strikers that I have never heard of instead, I will still be happy.

Clearly Donvicks you have condemned yourself with the above post. If ever the ones baying for blood needed further evidence.  ;)

there is no chance i'd want becchio here, he just isn't upto scratch, i would have had beckford off them though, can't believe we didn't inquire about him, he would have suited our game brilliantly.

as long as we beat those tossers to sharp...

I agree with those saying we should go for Becchio should we not get Sharp, we've been in this league for a few years now and that's a few more than Leeds, we are a bigger club. Lets show some ambition and sign the lad

From what i gather, Becchio hates Leeds and has wanted out since January 2009, his lack of English speaking stopped him..

It's alright Brian. These knuckle draggers have just proved the point we all knew anyway: folks from that part of the world are so deeply inbred that they've ended up resembling monkeys more than human beings. Fancy a banana lad?

Cheers
