Title: holiday advice as its been a while! luggage?
Post by: Bald Rover on June 19, 2010, 10:10:28 am
Some advice please.... I am holidaying with my sis and 3 kids in a few weeks and wonder about this 20 kg luggage allowance. Is this 20kg each person or each bag please as I'd like to compact the stuff into less suitcases? Many thanks!

Different airlines have different rules .

Should be stated somewhere in your documents.

PS if you're taking 20kg, you're taking too much!

It`s 20kg per person, as long as non of the kids are babies then you have a total baggage allowance of 5x 20kg= 100kg. Beware that if you try to pack everything into less suitcases there`s a limit on how much weight the baggage handlers will lift in one case, i think one case cannot weigh more than 32kg

Spot on, Filo.

My wife and I took one suitcase on our honeymoon last year and used our combined baggage allowance of 20kg each. We were (I was!) fine on the way out - it must've been about 33kg andf I was ok lugging it round the airport etc. but the snotty cow at the airport on the way home refused to lift it six inches onto the conveyor because it was overweight on the way home. We were left frantically binning stuff at Las Vegas airport to get it down to an acceptable level.

Just back from Gran Canaria and limit per individual suitcase was 23.5 kilos
( thats with Thomson Holidays ).Something to do with Elf and Safety for the baggage handlers .

At UK departure , our hand luggage was weighed as well .
